1. Monday's poll has proven to me that everybody is indeed watching The O.C. as 86 of you said that was what you were here for. Shame I haven't written it in a while then, huh? It was followed by HP (78) and SV (73) with LOTRips (65) a distant fourth. I was pretty damn surprised by the X2 rally of 51 people, I have to say, since it’s been so long, but more power to all of you. Who knows what might happen this week – which is obviously why 37 of you knew that it didn't matter what you said about due South since I'm gonna write it anyway. Also, I was really, really freaked out impressed with some of the crossovers you suggested. At least now I know where to go the next time I smoke some crack and wonder if Lex really should meet up with Seth, Sark and Julie Cooper*.

p.s. At least two people thought Lex and Julie would be a good story.
p.p.s Nifra, take your meds (Em, Kato & Barry Manilow?!)

2. [livejournal.com profile] happyminion pointed me over to some links in [livejournal.com profile] fleegull's LJ regarding the new Batnut movie and -- and -- What the Shit is This? This thing is supposed to be, like, in the movie as a vehicle? For people? Are they high? Where are the bad guys? At the monster truck rally?! [makes inconsolable noises]

3. Some people buy shoes. Some people buy drugs. I can’t do either of those things during the workday -- so instead I write. I know people wonder when the work gets done, but I am female, I multi-task, that’s all there is to it. Now as to why I insist on bouncing from Lex to Neville to Seth to RPS and every frigging place in between, it’s like this, you know that euphoric rush you get from getting together with someone for the first time? You know how your eyes dilate and you smile stupidly at everyone and you’re excited all the time about whatever might be going on with that other person (or in that fandom)? That’s what it’s like for me every time I go some place new. It’s like traveling a lot, only without worrying about money exchange. Instead I have to worry about character mannerisms and nervous tics. Instead of worrying whether said person is going to call, I get to worry about source material and getting my hands on it. To me, joining a new fandom is like learning a new language or taking a new class. It’s all about learning the layout and tweaking the characterizations, and you know what the best part is? It’s fun. It’s dating. I can go to a new fandom, try it out and see if it fits. I can see if I like it and see if it likes me, and if things don’t mesh? I won’t fail the class, there’s no messy breakup, and sometimes it’s great. Sometimes I step into a fandom and the plot bunnies crawl all over me, and all I can do is be mad that I only have to hands to type with and 24 hours in a day. Sometimes I realise it’s not for me and move on. Fandoms are just like dating that way. And just because you’re trying out different fandoms doesn’t mean you have to leave your old ones behind it – that’s stupid. That’s like leaving your friends for your new boyfriend/girlfriend/S.O. Why throw away something you’ve invested so much time in just for a new thrill that may not last at all?

The point in all this being that if you want to try out a new fandom, you should. Don’t be afraid of trying something new. Don’t worry about how you’re going to be received or what other people will think about what you’re doing or where you're going. It’s not about them, it’s about you, and by the same turn, if you’re happy where you are, then that’s great too, after all fandoms are a lot easier to leave than people. They’re a lot easier to drop than a course too. But you know, if you’re curious, don’t let fear of the unknown hold you back – you’ll never know if you’ll get anywhere unless you try and really, isn’t it better to try than to do nothing at all?

Plus, you know, fandoms are way cheaper than drugs.

What the Shit is This?

I clicked over there figuring it would be some monstrosity, but *THAT* is just... That's an entirely new level of wrong. So really, really, *really* not-right. I'm going with "they're high" as an explanation. Very, very high. Very.
