Ah, well, saw that one coming.

For those of you who have been around a while, you know that when the last Coldplay LP dropped (August '02), I was championing it before it even hit shelves. Like the ODB once said '[we] go back like babies and pacifiers' -- and so it was with a lot of excitement that I looked forward to hearing X & Y....

And then I heard it.

And I'm saying it now, publicly, I think it's shit.

The five stars that Blender gave it and the brown-nosing that EW did? Bullshit. I'm talking about arse to the wall, and stains everywhere like Miguel Alvarez in Oz shit. Some albums are fifty-fifty, you love and you hate, some you love most and hate some -- this is just crap.

I feel like I should be disappointed, but I'm not surprised.

In better news: OMG I SO LESS THAN THREE HURLEY!!!!!

Throughout history idiot boys and stupid girls have gone to hedgewitches for love charms and lust potions. Desperate for that tincture of *something* to make their dreams come true, they've sought out these ostracized women and have used them. And when wishes prove ephemeral, they *punish*, because shattered dreams are painful, and those in pain strike out.

Queenie Greengrass remembers all this and more when Ronald Weasley comes blushingly up to her after class, darting glances at Granger all the while. A school of witches, and he comes to her.

"Slytherins don't deal in dreams," she snaps, and walks away before he can even push the words out.

*loves*

The thing of it is, Queenie's not a hedgewitch. It's not something she aspires to be. She doesn't aspire to be anything, in fact, other than alive and still (mostly) human on her 17th birthday. She doesn't have time for stupid Gryffindor crushes. And she certainly doesn't have time to explain any of this to the likes of Ron Weasley.

But at lunchtime, as she sits between Theodore Nott (does he know there is a cursed object in his satchel? She wonders.) and Millicent Bulstrode, she can't help but notice that Weasley is still darting those looks at her. Luna, interesting, is looking, too.

Queenie drags her finger along the rim of her goblet, slowly, musingly, collecting stray drops of water and rolling them onto the tabletop. Beside her, Millie shifts uncomfortably.

I have no idea what medication or what language you two are on about.

Dude, it's *Queenie*. She is a language unto herself, you know?

Um. We can go play elsewhere, though.

No, you don't have to play elsewhere, you're very entertaining, I'm just wondering if I need a dictionary.
