A man who dresses as a bat? What a weirdo.

Wow.

I am in shock.

It turns out I've seen *two* brilliant films this year: Layer Cake... and Batman Begins.

I have been harping and nitpicking over this film since it went into production. Every step of the way I whinged and said it was going to tank. I freely admit to doubting everything -- except the producer, because Christopher Nolan did Memento -- and the cast. However, not only is this film not a tank, it is the most engaging film you're likely to see all year. You know you are hooked when [favouritest spoiler EVAH!] comes into a scene, and you're shocked because you forgot he was in the film.

I do not apologise to the Christian Bale lovers out there, cos he is still creepy to me, however, he did Bruce proud. That's some huge praise right there. [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon is going to do her nut.

People, see this film. On as big a screen as possible.

And then see it again, I know I will.

[livejournal.com profile] adrasteia, you want to get on this train. I haven't been with a group so animated about a film, after the film, since Fight Club!

I went to this year's Wondercon (http://www.comic-con.org/wc/) to see Joss Whedon and Kevin Smith but I walked into the main room early while Christian Bale was still answering questions. I find him terribly creepy and not all that attractive, but the man was intense. And he was really into the Batman character. He said at one point that Batman wasn't the mask, Bruce Wayne was. And that he thought, "in the beginning Bruce Wayne thought he was taking on a job with an end, he had a fairly naive approach." Hearing that was heartening, I doubt most of the previous Batmans tried to analyse Bruce as much as Christian Bale did. I'm glad you liked the movie. I can't wait til the 15th.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about the movie was the exploration, and the explanation, of how Bruce went from Bruce to Bats. I hope that's vague enough not to spoil you. :)
