a) Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore and [livejournal.com profile] thisisbone!

b) Does anybody have any coding shortcuts for websites. Wait. Let me 'splain. I want to put Trade up on my website, but the idea of coding it line by line by line is not on at all. I am not coding 183 pages of story by hand, so, apart from the find-replace function on word, which tends to leave me with punctuation issues, does anybody have any websites or tricks to get me through this without doing my nut?

c) I'm thinking about doing an Idiot's Guide to Jeff Buckley for [livejournal.com profile] audiography, but the thing is, I don't want to be all Jeff was born... Jeff is dead... Nuff said. I need to come up with something else. Something that would pull in somebody who isn't already converted. *sigh*

It's not always what you say, but how you say it.

Wasn't Trade already coded for your LJ posts?

I use Microsoft Frontpage - it's a WYSIWYG kind of programme, so if you copy and pasted from your LJ posts, it would keep the formatting, and you'd only have to fiddle with a few bits. If you haven't got it, or can't beg a copy from someone local, I can zip up a copy for you - it's about 200 MB though, so it's a fair size download.

I hate it when that happens. Okay, when I code a story I have to put 'br' after the paragrphs, so there will be breaks. You know about that, right? I meant that.

LJ posts assume those automatically - it's a simplified type of html. So if there are breaks between paragraphs on your LJ post (which there are), the correct html code will be added by Frontpage when you copy and paste into it. It does it all automatically for you. It doesn't give the cleanest of coding, but I'd rather have excess coding than do it all by hand!

No, sweetie, I'm sorry I wasn't clear. This isn't an LJ post I'm coding; it's for my website. The website doesn't assume, it requires all HTML coding be put in, hence I was hoping there was a shortcut for it.

Hee, yes, I realise that! We're talking totally at crosspurposes.

OK, my suggestion: Use the text from your LJ posts, copy and paste it into Frontpage (the text as it appears in the posts, not the coded text), and Frontpage will automatically produce a page suitable for your website. Even though the original LJ posts aren't properly coded, Frontpage will add the code you need. Then you just save the file as an htm file and upload it to your website. Easy!!

She speaks the truth, Z, Frontpage is pretty easy to use. Easy as in, I can do it. So is something like Homesite (I think that's what it's called) if you can find that.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? How can one be down? Is any of this available on download.com?

[identity profile] serialkarma.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
uh, to that I have no idea. If it's not, though, there may be a stripped down version that is.

I am definitely not the person to ask in that regard. Would Lar know?

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Lar and I are the ones who are still doing it by *hand*. You think we'd be doing it this way if we had something easier?

[identity profile] serialkarma.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
oh good lord, I figured maybe she had some way of doing it and just hadn't shared it with you. For some strange, inexplicable reason...okay, you're right, that's silly. good lord, what's wrong with you?*g*

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
*narrows eyes* Keep it up, smart ass.

[identity profile] serialkarma.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. Dude, I can keep this up allll day.

Uh, provided you don't kill me, that is.

*sharpens knives*

What's that?

Want me to upload Frontpage for you? I'm about off to bed now, but if I get it going now, it'll be up by the time I get up.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No, sweetie, get some sleep. I'm going to try this Arachnophobia programme [livejournal.com profile] adrasteia recommends since a)free and b) no need for extra work. If it tanks though, I may have to take you up on that. Thank you {{{{{hugs}}}}}}

I do hope you mean Arachnophilia! *g*

I've heard of it, but don't know anyone who actually uses it, but hey, if it's free and easy to get, worth a go!

Yes, that's what I meant (http://www.livejournal.com/users/hackthis/311494.html?thread=6558918#t6558918). :D I, much like Ron Weasley, do not care for spiders.
