Keep your racist bullshit out my fucking face.

I knew someone else's ignorant shit was going to set me off. I fucking knew it.

Let's all just put it out on the table.

Blaise Zabini is BLACK.

Black, people. That means, not blue or purple, not white, not green or yellow or in posession of fins, wings, webbed feet or any other descriptor, but BLACK. He's English, but you know, he's black. Not African American, just black. He can't actually be thought of as, I don't know, BRITISH! because he's black. It's nice to know that nothing's really changed. It's nice to know that when people see you they just see the color of your skin. It doesn't matter that it's your name. Clearly all races should be identifiable by name, because black people are all named Michael Jordan or Shaquille O'Neal or Craig David or Monifah or something.

Apparently, some people now believe that this is the end of the world, because heaven forbid a black person be hot. No, of course not.

There are no hot black people anywhere in the world. There's no Denzel Washington, Thandie Newton, Don Cheadle, Sophie Okenedo. There's no Angela Bassett, no Delroy Lindo, no Taye Diggs or Omar Epps or Mekhi Phifer. No Beyonce or Mos Def or Talib Kweli or Gabrielle Union or Boris Kudjoe or Nia Long.

No.

Obviously Blaise is now tainted because he's black. He can't be hot at all. And oh look, JKR made a joke with his mother about her being a black widow. It's all racially motivated though. I can see how Blaise must now be hideous and deformed. Heaven forbid Draco find him attractive. Heaven forbid that he actually have a brain because black people can't be talented except for in sports, and they can't be smart or make a honest living unless it's in music. I can see how Oprah and Nelson Mandela and Bill Cosby and every black MP or congressman is just affirmative action or a fluke.

And people say that racism is all gone.

Fuck that. And fuck you if this is your mindset.

I don't need your ignorant bullshit.

But don't worry. I'm not upset. I see how it is. It's always good to know where you stand. And no, this is not the part where everyone says 'I never thought that!' because if you did, ask your self would you even admit it?

God I love Craig David. He's too old for Blaise though, isn't he. Especially with Thandie Newton as his mom. Drat.

It would be really nice, Craig David, if somebody put up some Craig David.

Just saying.

Craig David.

Okay. Who are the boys in your icon? I must know.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh baby. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Am I happy I'm not into HP. Jeez.

[identity profile] silverakira.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
People fail at life and should be shot. Especially in the HP fandom, since it seems to have gotten a larger percentage of bigoted twats than most other fandoms.

Also, Thandie Newton = really fricking hot, omg.

[identity profile] sockich.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I really, really wish I hadn't seen that. Are these people for real? Fuck! I loved the fact that we actually got to see Blaise and he's smart and hot and snarky and basically just everything you could ask for! Who that fuck cares what colour his fucking skin is?

[identity profile] bungee.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to agree with this. I don't think the way [livejournal.com profile] sandrine used the word "blacks" was racist or offensive or what-have-you. She was using it as a descriptive term, not a derogatory one.

[identity profile] bungee.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Am I the only one who was just happy that we finally got a canon beat-down on that ignorant fanon femme!Blaise?

And p.s. since Ginny apparently thinks he's only good at posing, does this means we can get a poseable Blaise action figure? :D Because, ya know, that would be hot.

[identity profile] burntcopper.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean Thomas and Lee Jordan. (though it was funny when recently people were trying to actually find a single mention of Dean's skin colour and coming up with squat. But everyone knows he's black.)

Padma and Parvati are Indian. Or possibly Pakistani.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand that it may be used in history books, but that's an entirely separate issue in itself. Simply because something was once referred to in a book does not mean it is right; it may be a part of "history", but that does not mean it has to be a part of the present or the future. I take issue with the use of 'coloured' to describe anyone becasuse "historically" it has been used as a segregationist term and a way to keep people separate.

[identity profile] kattiya.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
*pets*

I wasn't even expecting wank on this - god what idiots! I don't know those people.
This is how my thought process went:
1. Eeeee....Z is going to die when she reads this.
2. Ew, but why does Blaise also have to be into Ginny/Mary Sue? Gross.
3. But wait! Blaise/Dean/Ginny = hot
4. AND Blaise/Draco = HOT of nuclear meltdown level

[identity profile] gossymer.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand what you're getting at, 'coloured' as a segregationist term- I guess the only other term would be...non-caucasion? Not quite sure- but then aren't the terms being 'white' or 'black' just as much of a label?

[identity profile] midnightjessa.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you crazy. Don Cheadle is the greatest. He has that quiet dignity and strength and calm that is beyond hot. In Hotel Rwanda, when he's acting out the scenes about protecting his family and using his smarts, that is hot.

[identity profile] midnightjessa.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
People are truly such asses.

One thing that I found disconcerting was the description of him. I think it was actually the focus on his eyes that threw me. It made it seem like the first or second time Harry had ever met him. However, I thought Zabini was in Potions classes with Harry, which, frankly, don't sound giant. So, I thought it couldn't be Zabini because Harry would have known his name.

Anyway, the end result of all of this was that I didn't know that Zabini was the black character Rowling described on the train until I read someone else talking about it behind a spoiler cut. Being a moron who wasn't keeping track, I spent the entire book thinking it was that quidditch-freak new character whose name I've managed to forget.

I could give a damn either way, but I'm still confused why Harry didn't know his name. Maybe I'm falling off canon here, as fandom has rather created Blaise from scratch. Anyway, it's irrelevant and I don't know what the hell is wrong with people. You're given a bit more on a character with a great name and not much else. You'd think fandom would be thrilled. I'm sure a large portion of it is. There are idiots everywhere.

[identity profile] topaz7.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Finding out about Blaise was one of the juiciest tidbits in HBP. And damn, he sounded hot! Fretting over his skin colour is just about the silliest reaction possible.

[identity profile] ebonbird.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hiya.

Just coming through via [livejournal.com profile] mos_daily, 'cause you know, black folks can't be hot. I will admit to an inordinate amount of Joy when Blaise was revealed as being Black.

And I'm not surprised.

These rascist/colorist people can't help their ugliness. It's cultural?

[identity profile] girlandetc.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
i have to be honest and say that it definitely surprised/shocked me when i read it, but i had had this picture in my head of blaise set up by you and this rpg i'm in. (not blaming you, haha, that's just where it came from). and so i was very surprised. but christ, to think the world is ending and you can't ship him with [insert character here] because of it? hello, ginny/dean, seamus/dean, anyone/dean. christ.

[identity profile] barely-bean.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
are you fuckin kidding me? oh jesus, Bex mentioned something about this today but like actually reading the wank. *shakes head* It just makes me sad for humanity.

[identity profile] ebonbird.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Hiya.

I found this by way of the f-list at [livejournal.com profile] mos_daily.

I expected an outcry when I read the description. Ah well. Some people can't help it . It's their culture.

[identity profile] ztrin.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
JKR made a joke with his mother about her being a black widow.

OMFG I totally didn't get that bit at first. Hahahahahaha, you sly bitch JKR, you.

Plus, Mos Def? Super hot. Yum yum. Craig David? Just gay, man. GAY.
