Brain dump.

So, like, I was trying to avoid having a massive brain dump in here, but then I said fuck it. My El Jay I can do whatever I damn well please. So.

I see a lot of speculation about Nathan being Claire's father, and obviously that's why she's 'superpowered' which, well, people, please, for my sake, use your brains.

a) Red herring, because if you're going by the teaser it's entirely too obvious, but more importantly

b) If powers are truly a genetic thing, which is what people want to show by pointing to Micah then you have to ask yourself where the hell are Mama Petrelli's powers? If Nathan and Peter got their powers from their parents, Mama Petrelli should be able to cause a fucking earthquake by stomping her foot, or possibly leap buildings in a single bound. Dude, Claire can't die, big fucking whoop. Peter is a friggin empath. He can be anybody. Nathan can fucking fly. It's like Rogue and Jean Gray having the same parents! And yet, as far as we know neither Petrelli parent can do more than shoplift and almost get indicted by their offspring. Just a thought.

c) Obviously Linderman is Claire's dad. Duh.

Last night [livejournal.com profile] antheia pointed me towards this post in [livejournal.com profile] starkeymonkey's LJ, which has to do with a fandom I don't participate in (Supernatural) and some person I have never interacted with in my life ([livejournal.com profile] la_folle_allure). Ergo, I am not going to pass judgment on her or on whatever craziness she's said about the show she was watching. I will not even address whatever idiocy she said about all black people growing up in the hood. *thinks of blood pressure* What I will say is that as a black woman this kind of stupidity goes down all the time whether or not fandom or society at large decides to acknowledge it. They're called stereotypes.

Black men obviously have rapacious sexual appetites. Black women are always welfare queens. Southerners all fly the Confederate flag, live in trailer parks and have red necks. Asian people are all brilliant and have yellow skin. Latino people all snuck across the border.

If you've ever had a less than charming thought about somebody else of another race based solely upon their race, guess what? You might have subscribed to a stereotype. You might've had a racist thought. Maybe you didn't put it down in your LJ for the whole world to say 'WTF' to, but chances are if you're breathing and reading this, you've done it.

This person, whomever she is, she's just stereotyping. She's just ignorant. It's clear she's never met a black person in her life. It's very likely she's never met a minority in her life, because if she had she would know that every person is different. I know it's shocking. But the difference between you and I at first glance? Only melanin. The difference in psychology and temperament and everything else -- monumental. Not all black people like rap. Not all Southern people like country. Not all Latinos like burritos. Not all Asians are number whizzes.

Don't make assumptions about other people based on erroneous information. Don't project your bullshit. Because you know what that's called? That's called ignorance. Sometimes we call it racism, too.

If you want to see what minorities go through every day, Sen. Joe Biden is so pleased that Barack Obama is articulate and clean, because people who were the head of the Harvard Law Review are normally very filthy. Or maybe just not black.

And no, not everything is about race, but sometimes it damn well is. If you're asking yourself why minorities continually get riled up about race, or 'play the race card' as it were, ask yourself when was the last time someone came up to you and commented on your race, or your parentage, or where you were 'really' from, or how well you speak.

From separate e-mails to [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma and [livejournal.com profile] antheia:

I get to share my burning shame with you that I was listening to Sophie B Hawkins 'Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover' on my iTunes (yes, I am a musical encyclopedia), not really paying that much attention, and then she was all 'I had a dream I was your hero' and my brain was like Peter? Nathan? The fuck?! Damn. It's times like these I wish I had some vidding skillz, cos I would ROCK that shit. It would be so awesomely cheesy with all the friggin touching Nathan and Peter do!

Also, randomly, Nathan was STUPENDOUSLY hot on Monday. I bet y'all thought I wasn't gonna comment on that, but I am only human.

Okay, now that that's done. Everyone run over to look at the FNL prettiness on [livejournal.com profile] azewewish's LJ. That's what I'm talking about.

Ah, so it's sort of like how I watch Supernatural for the hotass that is Dean & (well, first season, anyway) the hotass that was John & I could care less about the MOTW plotline?

[identity profile] sparky77.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I really, really like that idea. It makes my head hurt, but in a good way. And then I could make the Animaniacs style Petrelli icon I really want with the Petrelli Brothers and their sister Claire.

[identity profile] callmesandy.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to thank you so so much for the Sophie B Hawkins link/download. That MADE MY DAY. I did a little fist pump of joy!

I was going to concede and then I realized what was missing from this massive group of 'powers' -- a metamorph.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
MMWD said she couldn't see it herself, which made me think for a moment about the show and the powers and what's missing here? A metamorph. It's a stretch, but they've done stranger.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I have been crafting a theory in comments which is pretty damn cracked out, but I have embraced it whole-heartedly based on ,lj user="antheia">'s brilliant conjecture that since we've never seen Papa Petrelli it's possible that he's Linderman. Imagine all that that implies. No one's ever seen Linderman on screen. We've only assumed that Nathan's seen him face-to-face. Maybe he hasn't. We've never seen even a *photo* of Papa Petrelli either. Claire doesn't die -- maybe Papa Petrelli doesn't either. Whoo boy, would that be awesome.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY! I am glad :)

[identity profile] dorrie6.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmmmm yes that is very interesting to think about. Oh, the possibilities!

[identity profile] screaming-mimie.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sophie B. is still hot, don't care of Dawson's Creek ruined that song or not.

And thanks for the link to the FNL pretty... that Matt picture, with his tummy all out that and they stripey boxers, that needs to be an icon with the words Friday Night Licks on it.

[identity profile] ethrosdemon.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, I just almost made a really inappropriate in-joke, but then I didn't because I am currently the most hated person in Canada. So I will simmer down and just say that what annoyed me about Heroes this week was Chris Eccleston not speaking with his normal accent.

[identity profile] antheia.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I might just straight up explode.

[identity profile] gene-lee.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*lol* reading your entire theory about Linderman and Papa Petrelli, that's an insane enough plot twist I can see Kring coming up with ...of course, the idea that Papa Petrelli set his eldest up with a stripper and video-taped it just sends the 'cesty-ness levels to new heights. And Claire being his daughter?--well, that just has the family tree curling in on itself. :D *dies* "The Petrelli's. That's just how we roll."

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I have always had a very awesome imagination. i admit this freely.

"The Petrelli's. That's just how we roll."

That is clearly the best icon idea ever. *waits* *waits more* Is somebody gonna get on this or what?!

[identity profile] gene-lee.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I'm totally ignorant in britspeak, btw. I wouldn't be able to discern a dialect, but I can tell its not from Jersey. Out of curiosity, what is his normal accent?

[identity profile] notworthy.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)

Oh man, this, personally? Pisses me off like no one's business. Mainly because I've had it go both ways- I've gotten comments from white people about how well/different I dress/speak/act... And then there's the comments from other black people about how I'm not "black" enough, and wow, my issues are kind of showing.

So, um, word. And I obviously need to watch Heroes, really.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
My brain is an awesome thing, I know.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
that Matt picture, with his tummy all out that and they stripey boxers, that needs to be an icon with the words Friday Night Licks on it.

Amen.

[identity profile] antheia.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's why we get along.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You're censoring yourself? Whoo, the people with the pitchforks must be close. That life insurance policy is gonna pay off nicely, and just in time for that down payment on that Adrian Pasdar clone I ordered.

[identity profile] norah.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
By the way, four separate cast members, in the cast commentaries for the past two eps, mention the onscreen Petrellicest vibe. It's not just you, it's CANON.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)

You are not alone, baby. It happens to me; it happens to men and women I know; it just -- sadly, it just sort of is. And naturally it's always 'well meant' and when you give them the look of 'what?' then you hear 'I mean it as a compliment.' Unless its complaints that you're not down enough or you're bougie.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I would say it gets better, but mostly you just get used to it as you get a little older. Your skin gets a little thicker. Okay, enough about that.

YES, watch Heroes. Actually, I don't really watch Heroes as much as I watch the Nathan and Peter show and the Ando and Hiro show.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins broadly* I WIN! Ahem. I haven't seen this week's commentary yet, I know about last week when the boys talked about Milo playing the coma scene gay. And also, tongue, *pauses* So you're telling me they talk about this week too?! Who's doing the commentary? Are Adrian and Milo doing it this week? I keep waiting for them to do it.

*dashes off to read [livejournal.com profile] ella_vantic's transcripts*

[identity profile] screaming-mimie.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, it's nothing spectacular, but i had to do it... *points to icon*

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
GOD DAMN!
