Brain dump.

So, like, I was trying to avoid having a massive brain dump in here, but then I said fuck it. My El Jay I can do whatever I damn well please. So.

I see a lot of speculation about Nathan being Claire's father, and obviously that's why she's 'superpowered' which, well, people, please, for my sake, use your brains.

a) Red herring, because if you're going by the teaser it's entirely too obvious, but more importantly

b) If powers are truly a genetic thing, which is what people want to show by pointing to Micah then you have to ask yourself where the hell are Mama Petrelli's powers? If Nathan and Peter got their powers from their parents, Mama Petrelli should be able to cause a fucking earthquake by stomping her foot, or possibly leap buildings in a single bound. Dude, Claire can't die, big fucking whoop. Peter is a friggin empath. He can be anybody. Nathan can fucking fly. It's like Rogue and Jean Gray having the same parents! And yet, as far as we know neither Petrelli parent can do more than shoplift and almost get indicted by their offspring. Just a thought.

c) Obviously Linderman is Claire's dad. Duh.

Last night [livejournal.com profile] antheia pointed me towards this post in [livejournal.com profile] starkeymonkey's LJ, which has to do with a fandom I don't participate in (Supernatural) and some person I have never interacted with in my life ([livejournal.com profile] la_folle_allure). Ergo, I am not going to pass judgment on her or on whatever craziness she's said about the show she was watching. I will not even address whatever idiocy she said about all black people growing up in the hood. *thinks of blood pressure* What I will say is that as a black woman this kind of stupidity goes down all the time whether or not fandom or society at large decides to acknowledge it. They're called stereotypes.

Black men obviously have rapacious sexual appetites. Black women are always welfare queens. Southerners all fly the Confederate flag, live in trailer parks and have red necks. Asian people are all brilliant and have yellow skin. Latino people all snuck across the border.

If you've ever had a less than charming thought about somebody else of another race based solely upon their race, guess what? You might have subscribed to a stereotype. You might've had a racist thought. Maybe you didn't put it down in your LJ for the whole world to say 'WTF' to, but chances are if you're breathing and reading this, you've done it.

This person, whomever she is, she's just stereotyping. She's just ignorant. It's clear she's never met a black person in her life. It's very likely she's never met a minority in her life, because if she had she would know that every person is different. I know it's shocking. But the difference between you and I at first glance? Only melanin. The difference in psychology and temperament and everything else -- monumental. Not all black people like rap. Not all Southern people like country. Not all Latinos like burritos. Not all Asians are number whizzes.

Don't make assumptions about other people based on erroneous information. Don't project your bullshit. Because you know what that's called? That's called ignorance. Sometimes we call it racism, too.

If you want to see what minorities go through every day, Sen. Joe Biden is so pleased that Barack Obama is articulate and clean, because people who were the head of the Harvard Law Review are normally very filthy. Or maybe just not black.

And no, not everything is about race, but sometimes it damn well is. If you're asking yourself why minorities continually get riled up about race, or 'play the race card' as it were, ask yourself when was the last time someone came up to you and commented on your race, or your parentage, or where you were 'really' from, or how well you speak.

From separate e-mails to [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma and [livejournal.com profile] antheia:

I get to share my burning shame with you that I was listening to Sophie B Hawkins 'Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover' on my iTunes (yes, I am a musical encyclopedia), not really paying that much attention, and then she was all 'I had a dream I was your hero' and my brain was like Peter? Nathan? The fuck?! Damn. It's times like these I wish I had some vidding skillz, cos I would ROCK that shit. It would be so awesomely cheesy with all the friggin touching Nathan and Peter do!

Also, randomly, Nathan was STUPENDOUSLY hot on Monday. I bet y'all thought I wasn't gonna comment on that, but I am only human.

Okay, now that that's done. Everyone run over to look at the FNL prettiness on [livejournal.com profile] azewewish's LJ. That's what I'm talking about.

I read that starkeymonster post and all I can think now (other than OMGWTFHEADDESK) is "Duhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuh Duhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuh BLACK MAN!" to the Batman theme. Ow, my head.

Nathan and Peter are SEKRITLY ADOPTED. And they are also Linderman's. Linderman is breeding a new race of mutant superheroes. Or, wait. Claire's father is a sekrit agent on the run from Linderman, and Bennet faked her death (and her mother's) to HIDE THEM from Linderman, even as he works for him as his pawn!

Goddamn, I can't wait for next Monday. Also, I think I have a massive crush on Masi Oka. Did you know he has a 180 IQ? That's hot.

Linderman as Professor X! Err, L. Or, or, you know, dude, with the death thing I kinda begin to think that maybe Papa Petrelli is Claire's daddy.

Also, re: Masi Oka, there's this clip that someone sent me (I should get like a fucking folder for this shit) where he and Adrian are talking about Masi being on the cover of TIME when he was 11 as part of of an Asian Super Kid cover. For reals. It's hot. He's totally brilliant. He used to work for Lucas ILM (Industral Light and Magic) and still does contract stuff for them. How is he this awesome?!

[identity profile] antheia.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
What's the background that makes me wrong that Papa is Lindermann?

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
*blinks* Nothing, except we're all assuming that Nathan's actually had face-to-face with Linderman, but hey ASSUMPTIONS are BAD. And we've never seen Papa Petrelli. Baby, I think you get a cookie for this. Oh, wait, I have Peter talking in Italian to his car. That's plenty for you.

[identity profile] antheia.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter talking in Italian to his car is plenty. Of course, the more I think about it, the more I think I'm wrong. But I do think there's more to the link between Papa and Lindermann than we know about, yet.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
MMWD said she couldn't see it herself, which made me think for a moment about the show and the powers and what's missing here? A metamorph. It's a stretch, but they've done stranger.

[identity profile] antheia.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I might just straight up explode.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
My brain is an awesome thing, I know.

[identity profile] antheia.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's why we get along.

[identity profile] norah.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Linderman functions as Linderman - he's got a Linderman Group and minions and shit. I don't think Petrelli could do that that publicly and also be Petrelli, could he? I mean, it would be really hard to maintain two high-profile identities, wouldn't it?

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to concede and then I realized what was missing from this massive group of 'powers' -- a metamorph.

[identity profile] norah.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
By the way, four separate cast members, in the cast commentaries for the past two eps, mention the onscreen Petrellicest vibe. It's not just you, it's CANON.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins broadly* I WIN! Ahem. I haven't seen this week's commentary yet, I know about last week when the boys talked about Milo playing the coma scene gay. And also, tongue, *pauses* So you're telling me they talk about this week too?! Who's doing the commentary? Are Adrian and Milo doing it this week? I keep waiting for them to do it.

*dashes off to read [livejournal.com profile] ella_vantic's transcripts*

[identity profile] norah.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Grunberg and one of the writers, with a bit of Hayden at the beginning.

WHERE IS THE COMMENTARY MASI DOES. I NEED IT.

[identity profile] iamtheenemy.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
STOP, WAIT. Cast commentaries? Where? Where? I am ridiculously in love with audio commentaries. Where can I find these?

[identity profile] norah.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
They're online at the NBC site as movies, but [livejournal.com profile] hackthis mentioned something about transcripts...

[identity profile] iamtheenemy.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! You've seriously just made my day.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] ella_ventic. She's transcribing them in her LJ, which is about fifty kinds of awesome.

[identity profile] norah.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
He talks about that on Leno (which was the interview I watched on YouTube) and seriously, so funny and charming and quick and GUH. I don't know how he is this awesome! How can ANYONE be that awesome?! It defies understanding.

Do you watch the cast commentaries online? Have you found the Easter eggs? I am such a Heroes geek these days, I can't stop!

Oh, Claire. Your adopted teenage angst thrills me! Your mama is a run-down barfly! Your daddy is mysterious! Your fakeydaddy is in trouble! Whatever will you DO?!

Also, how the hell did Sylar do that?!

[identity profile] veradeath.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, how the hell did Sylar do that?!

They kept having a roach in the same shot when he was drugged up, which is so very not subtle.

Maybe he took someone with a slightly differnet version of Claire's power.
