Righty-ho!

In light of the coming blasphemy that will be ABC's version of Life on Mars, I decided to finally get to the original before all was irreparably tainted.

So, I have just finished the original Life on Mars pilot and, um, Sam/Gene, y/y? Sam/Annie? y/y?

Also? Annie FTW \O/!

[livejournal.com profile] slodwick and [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone I am feeling the love. Bring me your story recs!

With Annie that makes like, two female leads I've grown to adore this year (including Casey on Greek). The world she is ending. Well, between this and Shia's shit balls... You don't believe me, read the article. In fact? READ THE ARTICLE ANYWAY. It will explains things you didn't even know you needed explained.

Life on Mars is possibly the best thing I've watched in years, and John Simm (and the rest of the cast, but I'm in love with John Simm so I can't help to mention him first) is just pure awesome made human *_____*

Life on Mars is pretty much the best thing ever, yes? And Annie is awesome, but not quite as awesome as Gene (and if you've only watched the pilot so far, the slashiness you've seen is nothing to the slashiness that's coming).

I haven't come across any really wonderful LoM fic, although you should read this one (http://community.livejournal.com/forthewa/2383.html) after you watch episode six.

And then there's this vid (http://www.imeem.com/luminosity/video/U_zPNaII/luminosity_lom_timebomb/) to "Timebomb" by Old 97s, possibly my favorite fanvid ever.

Hooray for getting in some viewing of the original before the American remake! Normally I have an open mind about stuff and am willing to give things a chance, but the US remake just looks hideous. It will never in a million years live up to the original UK version.

Annie is amazing. I hardly ever really like female characters, but somehow Annie worked her way into my heart! I'm quite depressed by the Annie I saw in the US trailer. :(

you also need to look into Chris/Ray. Just saying. Actually, I can pretty much rec most of [livejournal.com profile] lifein1973 - all variations, main comm, rarely are you disappointed. It's a high-quality fandom. (though I tend to stay away from anything long and multi-part out of principle) Sam/Gene is the main pairing, followed by Sam/Annie, with some Sam/Chris, and we also get a lot of Chris/Ray as the fandom's secondary slash pairing. Plus a lot of gen (everything from cracktastic to fucking heartrending).

Oh, you have so much to look forward to in your viewing. Curry. Swimming baths. Actual honest-to-god rolls over the hood of the car. Camberwick Green. And Phyllis only gets more awesome. Not to mention? THE BBC LOVES US. Because they get them to pose for pictures like this (http://burntcopper.com/apres/title2.jpg). Now, think of it sans writing. And figure out precisely where their legs would have to go to achieve that position.

Life on Mars is simply amazing.

Yay for Life on Mars watching! I stalled after the 6th episode for some reason, but I absolutely loved it, especially Gene. Gene is awesome and just gets more and more awesome. Do you still want me to burn the episodes for you like I said I would months ago or have you moved on to new sources.

So I read that article because people keep talking about this strange SHIA LABEOUF person who you know I'm just feel nothing towards right and wow, he was in HOLES, he paints TOILET SEATS in his spare time, he is a RIFLE collector
(not something I usually find attractive but whatever). I totally needed that explained to me and I must say, I see the light. Shia LaBeouf man. Wow.

Thanks for the pointer to the Shia article. I admit I've been puzzled by your interest in him, and this has definitely helped explain some.

& I'm glad you're watching Life on Mars! I've heard terrible things about the US remake, but Jason O'Mara, I love him. Am very torn.

Gene Hunt is pure win. Just... heaps and heaps of win. Keep watching, it only gets better!

I'm actually kind of reluctant to rec you too much, as most of the fics are spoilery (it's what happens when the whole show is only 16 episodes). But here are a few of my favorites:

[livejournal.com profile] lozenger8 is a wonderful and prolific writer; she writes gen, Sam/Gene, and Sam/Annie. All her fic is here (http://lozenger8.livejournal.com/626895.html).

This (http://digilander.libero.it/dorcas_gustine/lom/heroesmenu.html) is a long and plotty Sam/Gene story that was the first fic in this fandom I really fell in love with.

Another (http://community.livejournal.com/1973flashfic/41344.html) Sam/Gene story I really love.

I'm still planning to do a proper recs post soon. Hopefully that's a good start, though?

life on mars is amazing. and it gets better and better and better and omfg i may have to rewatch it now. only don't be fooled into ashes to ashes because it is sadly lacking. and oh, now my heart hurts--i didn't know that abc was going to destroy life on mars......ugh. no way it can be as good. what'll they do? hire glenister to come over? i mean who could possibly be the jean genie as good as he is?

I can't beleive you haven't seen LoM already! I am in total denial about the US version. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?!

[actually they are thinking of how big a hit the Office has been and how fab a concept LoM is and how they want a piece of that. But that is NO EXCUSE OMG]

[identity profile] circe-tigana.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
Our take was that the writing on LoM gets very spotty in places to the point of "dude, this is embarassing", but that the Tyler and Hunt are fantastic throughout.

Annie ... the writers don't always know what to do with Annie, shall we saw. Best to take her under your wing :)

I did enjoy watching the two seasons.
