I have been completely taken over by the Olympics and Generation Kill. No, seriously. My entire schedule revolves around 'Olympics! I must haz them now!' and then they're airing everything I want to see when I'm supposed to be asleep and this would be awesome if I were kept woman (I'm looking at you, Ryan Gosling), but since I have rent to pay, err, not so good. But I can't help myself! Rowing! Swimming! Synchronized diving in Speedo! Gymnastics! Archery! Equestrian! More rowing! I need an icon that says, ODing on the Olympics.

And how do I know the Olympics have eaten my head? Well, I'm currently desperate to rewatch the first five episodes of my current hotass fling, Generation Kill, but to do that I have to stop watching the Olympics for longer than 30 minutes and that just doesn't seem possible. What if I miss some perfectly obscure sport that I would never ever watch otherwise? Water polo, I'm looking at you. Actually, just watching water polo makes me crazy tired. Riflery, I don't even know. When else would I watch weightlifting?

Now, Generation Kill, on the other hand, well, I can take the hint people, I have bought the book (used)*, so you can stop cutting and pasting whole sections to press the case for your favorite pairing. I agree, Rudy & Pappy are the new baby OTP, and yes, there is a strong case for Brad/Ray, but I can't see them doing anything sexual, I think they are the married couple that are together for the companionship.

*Unfortunately it turns out my used copy is an original printing which means no 2007 afterword about where they are now, which will thusly require about 30 minutes at Borders once I am done with this version of the book.

p.p.s Did y'all know that Nate wrote a book? I did not know this. Love Nate. Okay, correction, love Stark Sands as Nate. I know where my real loyalties lie. I understand some people saying Marine RPS? You've totally done it now, but I very clearly understand that my fascination with GK has to do with the actors playing real people and their characterizations there of, not the people themselves. I have nothing but the utmost respect for the real men of the First Recon. So, my stories? ALL FICTION (except for those bits that just happen to be true). It's like when I write George. I do not know George, I do not pretend to know a damn thing about George (except all the links that I'm sent), but my fascination is with the characterization I've made of him. So, the real Nate Fick has had a society wedding and various other things, the Nate Fick in my head will retire one day and get a house on the water in Hermosa Beach so Brad can go racing his motorcycles all the time.

And now, if you'll excuse me I am off to write in my fake world. Or possibly wonder how to get Michael Phelps and his size 17 feet into some fictional universe that I like. Hey man, you've gotta know your line.

I couldn't say, but I'm pretty sure the entirety of men's synchronized diving is. Lyra and I sat there last night, completely distracted from whatever Very Important Life Topic we were discussing, because it was so very, very gay. Also, Sascha Klein is pretty.

::coughs:: Copying and PASTING? Dude, more like typing out the long way. Copying and pasting would be a step up. But, ya know, good cause and all. The book is great for the little details (especially how to spell military jargonish things, thank GOD).

suaine has demonstrated why I probably need to get Nate's book, too. (After Wright left them Nate took all the guys on a day trip to Babylon! Where he and Brad had dirty, kinky sex against the Ishtar Gate.

Actually if you stuck him somewhere in OC he could run for office as a Republican and actually win (the boy tends toward the conservative side according to Wright). But, ya know, that's just me running with my politics theory.

I understand your Olympics obsession. I'm dragging at work because my boyfriend Michael Phelps is always on at night...and then I watch whatever comes on. Sunday I watched cycling for god's sake. Surely, the Olympics have sucked out my brain.

Seriously, it is so freaking awesome. It is now in my Top 5 Fav Non-Fiction books. And I'm a big non-fiction fan. I've only just finished it, and I want to read it again. Right up there with "Homicide: A Year On The Killing Streets" and "Conspiracy of Fools".

Yes, indeed. I can hardly believe I bought a book narrating years in the life of a conservative republican. Damn you Sark Sands! *fist of fuy* Well, I got it on sale for $5. But still!

I'm basically desperately in love with the men as they were for a few months of their lives, while living in squalor and peril. heh. No interest in their real, outside lives. The guys as depicted in the novel Generation Kill and the series likely bear little resemblance to the real people in their normal, daily existence -- Ray Person, especially, is supposed to bare little resemblance to his "Combat Self" (according to several individuals, not just himself). Boring! In my head, he is always a ranting freak. <3!

Weeks with almost no sleep, constant consumption of caffeine, and frequent bombardment with bullets and bombs kind of twist you into something else. Something stranger, something both better and worse. So the people to fic about aren't any more "real" than the public image of Brad Pitt and NSYNC. If I ever get off my ass and write some fic, it will totally ignore actual happenings and imagine post-combat shenanigans that fly wildly in the face of reality. And a non-shy Ray Persons. boo-yah!

I don't understand, I'm not an athletic person at all and yet I get so invested in these people. On top of that I don't even care if they're my country people or not, I hold my breath for all of them.

... and I confess I laughed out loud - being Brazilian myself, I love that team so freaking much (it's compulsory down here, true story), and the jokes about how these boys love each other are old and legendary. I don't know about sleeping together, but they sure have huge boy!crushes on each other, and some even look like boyfriends of looooong time. And aren't they all adorable?

Most of them retired from the national team after the Olympics, did you know? I miss them. No other team will ever be as awesome and beautiful as them. *sigh*

Anyway, sorry for intruding. Just wanted to gush about those boys a little bit.
