It's my theory that the better the canon, the smaller the fandom. Generation Kill was awesome, so it doesn't get a lot of fic written about it. Then you have shows like Supernatural, which is cheesy at best and offensive at worst, so it becomes this big crazy fandom with the incest vs. angel!porn slash wars.

Crap. Two weeks ago I rented the first season, am watching the fifth episode as we speak and was just about to go looking for Omar Little being awesome fic.

The *only* time I have seen fic for The Wire is yuletide It was a small story by rustler, but it is indeed awesome.

Well, on one hand I'm happy that my theory about the good TV getting no fic is holding through. On the other hand, I really would have liked to read Wire fanfic.

Well, I think that's one of many factors contributing to the lack of Wire fic (majority PoC cast, pay channel network), but it's been a long day, so we'll not go there.

Southland doesn’t have to be like The Wire, you know. All it needs is fic. Dirty, hot fic where Cooper has dirty, hot sex with Ben. Served up with some gratuitous Beverly Hills snark.

What? Ben can't oh so innocently offer to give a soothing backrub then use magic hands to lull Cooper into a sense of security and then- 'Whoops, where did your pants go?' And then afterward, when they're all sweaty and decidly *not* cuddling, Cooper be all, "WTF, you did not learn to suck cock taking Brenda Walsh to prom."

Maybe, Cooper's pants are already off. He's hungover, in some stranger's bed and wakes up to Ben's fingers just sroking up and down his scar. And Ben's not saying anything, just giving one of his looks and then there's drowsy morning sex. And maybe Ben nips at the scar, because that could be hot.
