What's on tap for today.

From [livejournal.com profile] delux_vivens:

Let's make it really clear, people. If you identify as a POC/nonwhite person and you read or watch scifi or fantasy, give yourself a name check in this thread. I am particularly wanting shoutouts from people who do not live in the US and who have still managed to read genre fiction.

I'm tired of people trying to render us invisible unless they have been given a memo about our existences.
It should go without saying that this particular activity is not for white people, but I know sometimes people need things spelled out. Like assuming that obviously POCs don't read or engage with SF/Fantasy just because we're not written INTO said stories. Let me stop now before I give myself a headache.

Other items:

1) Dear NBC:

If you put Southland on Friday, I will cut a bitch. Don't think I won't.

No love,
X

2) Southland people,

Michael says he was driving a Dodge Challenger in last week's episode. Uh. When was this and where was I? Because anybody who's been around these parts knows that I have a natural fetish affinity for three things: music, cars, and sarcastic, intelligent, slightly broken men, so if two of these three things were in the same place, namely *that* man driving *this car*, I WOULD HAVE NOTICED. And already written about it.

3) Also, does anybody have the following albums: Seal 'Soul'; The Sam & Ruby EP, The Knux 'Remind Me in 3 Days'; The New York Fund 'Guns EP' I reckon most of these artists are too indie (except for Seal) for anybody to have what I'm looking for, but you guys are always surprising me so...

Oh, noes! And no jinxing yourself by mentioning any sort of pox. *taps wood*

I am actually shocked you haven't found a way to have the episodes on your iPod. For research purposes, of course.

They are both so old school. Ya know?

Yis, this is totally a win-win scenario for everyone involved (meaning: US, obvs).

Word.

Okay, I lied about going to sleep and now my brain is a very happy place. Sex in cars! Sex on motorcycles! And sex ON cars as opposed to in cars.

[identity profile] skyenapped.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, wow, I think I noticed the car but didn't realize I noticed it...until now.

If they move it to the Friday deathslot I will...help you cut a bitch!! NBC is the source of my endless rage lately.

[identity profile] thisisbone.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
NBC is stupid.

There, that made me feel a little better.

They think pairing Trauma and Heroes makes sense? That makes about as much sense as pairing Chuck with Southland. *smacks forehead*

Jesus Christ, people. How hard is it to put Trauma and Southland together and Chuck and Heroes together?

I wonder if Southland is going to air in the fall and Friday Night Lights in the spring? Because if Nikki's right, then Southland just got FNL's typical slot. Which is okay, since it's not coming back until January, but still. Friday is such a kiss of death. Although! FNL is coming back for S4, so you never know!

Could I ramble any more? Aren't you supposed to be bending Sherman over the hood of Cooper's car?

[identity profile] chicklet-girl.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Sad but true: I identified the car as a Challenger right away because the back windows match the ones on Gibbs's car on NCIS. (Which is a 1970 Dodge Challenger with a hemi. Cooper's is cooler because it's black -- Gibbs's is canary yellow.)
ext_236295: (Cooper (typografik))

[identity profile] maurheti.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, Cooper is totally wearing his cruising outfit -- same black (close-fitting, delicious) t-shirt he was wearing in the gay bar the first ep. The black jeans and the boots are just icing on the cake.

And yes, the car. The CAR! I might've started writing something about sex on the hood of said car. But since all my writing lately seems to come to a screeching halt after two paragraphs...

I am so ready for it to be Thursday.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
They are. LOVE!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sex in cars suxxors. Do not do!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Your icon is perfect.

Could I ramble any more? Aren't you supposed to be bending Sherman over the hood of Cooper's car?

I love how you just make sure to get your point in there. As for this particular matter, there is a project in the embryoic stages that I will not talk about, but I assure you, you will enjoy it.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I was in the other room so when I walked in he was just putting down the flare and then the woman rolled up and I just assumed it was a long shift. I was wrong wasn't I? I shall have to see it again. Life is hard.

[identity profile] chicklet-girl.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Cooper's car definitely is a first-generation Challenger, which means it's from 1970 - 1974. I have this mental image of five-year-old Cooper watching his dad and his friends discuss their muscle cars.

And now you have to watch the scene again. Your life is filled with much sorrow and hardship.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You do realize that you have just created Cooper fanon right? And that now I must co-op this factoid for the story I am writing that I am not talking about but that is very long and has sex and whatnot.

[identity profile] thisisbone.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you assuring me of this?

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHAHA!

You can be assured of this.

[identity profile] redheadaholic.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I was at a baseball game, flipping through the program and came across a picture of the new Challenger. Apparently, I moaned loud enough for the friend next to me to actually hear. So, know you aren't alone in your kinks!

Yes, please, as much sex ON cars as possible in The Epic.

[identity profile] miss-saigon.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think these links should still be working, I had to split the album into two parts to upload it to mediafire, if that doesn't work for you let me know and I can upload it somewhere else.

AND WHATNOT.

HELL TO THE YES.

[identity profile] sleeper-frost.livejournal.com 2009-05-14 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking the 'Challenger' badge/logo/whatever on the grille was looking more like the present generation:

Noticed only because the car product placement (hello, Audi!) has been getting pretty out of hand.

Whichever, it's still black and badass. heh

John sits in the dirt playing Army men and listening to the guys in the garage. They're all standing around his dad's new car, drinking beer and listening to the radio. John's dad tells a joke about a woman with two black eyes. John doesn't understand it, but the guys all laugh.

John has the Army men jump from the top of the doghouse into the dirt. The Rangers are the best, everyone says so. Well, Grandpa says so, anyway, and he was a Ranger, so he should know. The doghouse is a good place for them to jump from, because it's just high enough to be a big jump, but not so high John can't reach it. They don't have a dog anymore -- Sunny was gone one day when Mom and him got home from Grandpa's, and Mom cried all night -- but the doghouse is nice.

"What the fuck? Say that again, asshole." John's dad is mad. Again.

"Nothin', man. I didn't mean nothin'." Dave backs out of the garage, into the yard. He has his hands up, his beer sloshing out of the can.

"It wasn't nothing, Dave." Dad's fists come up and punch Dave, one two three, and Dave is on the ground. John's dad is big, with wide shoulders and big arms and short blond hair. Dave is thin like the Coyote in the cartoons, with a scraggly mustache and long hair. He sits on the dirt, backing up on his butt, trying to get out of the yard, but Dad just sits on Dave and keeps hitting. John backs up behind the doghouse, peeking around the corner. He can see blood on Dave's face.

None of the guys in the garage tries to stop Dad.

Suddenly, there are sirens. John thinks Mrs. Rieger from across the alley called the cops. She always watches John and tries to give him cookies.

The cops seem big, with their guns and boots and loud voices. One of them -- not as big as Dad -- pulls him off Dave and puts handcuffs on him. The other one takes a look at Dave and then goes to the squad car and says something into the radio.

"Ambulance?" Tommy asks. John doesn't like him because he's always hitting John on the back of the head, like it's supposed to be funny or something, and once he made John drink beer until he felt funny and fell asleep in front of the TV.

"Your pal's lucky we don't need to call the body wagon, fucko. You just let him beat the shit out of you? Like in a rotation or something?"

"Fuck you, Officer."

"You better hope that guy doesn't die, is all I'm saying."

They all stand around, John too, waiting for the ambulance. When John hears the siren, he can't stand it anymore, and he runs out the back gate, down the alley. Grandpa's house is three blocks away -- one up, two over, the green house on the corner, and John can run there really fast when he has to.

(Fifteen minutes in a Write or Die window, with the barest read-through by yours truly. But then, that's the point of commentfic, right?)

[identity profile] stereowire.livejournal.com 2009-05-14 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's definitely the new one. First generation had the "Challenger" badge on the right side of the grille, and it was in a cursive kinda script, not the italic block print. They also had "DODGE" across the hood instead of the Ram logo, if anything at all.
Um, hi, [livejournal.com profile] hackthis, you don't know me, I was just pointed this way for Southland squee and this caught my eye as being relevant to two of my interests-- Cooper and muscle cars *g*

[identity profile] chicklet-girl.livejournal.com 2009-05-14 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, you're right -- all I saw in the original broadcast was the passenger-side windows, and Dodge replicated the classic rear windows exactly. Good eye!
