Consider this the carrot - you don't want the stick*

1. Hi! to my new people. Hi! to my old people, too.

2. Happy St. Patrick's Day. May your river look green if it's dyed and not just like somebody peed in it.

3. Iron Man trailer Version 2.0 -- Dear Tony - It is on. Yes, again. Love, X.

4. 'Telephone' - Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce - I'm not a Gaga fan, however, I appreciate her as an entertainer. This is entertaining as hell. It even gave me a moment of, "shall we write this?" And then I came back to earth.

5. People, please, for the love of whatever, can you stop drinking from the 'I Am a Speshul Snowflake Kool-Aid'?

6. OK Go 'This Too Shall Pass' - It's true, one day The Great Depression 2.0 will be over. Dunno when, but one day. In the meanwhile, this video will make your day better.

7. Is anybody watching Justified? What are your thoughts? I was gonna watch it, but it's on opposite Southland and I wouldn't stop watching Southland even if the house was on fire.

8. I am watching The Pacific. I need to see more of it before I formulate a proper opinion.

9. The word is 'homes' not holmes. Homes as in home skillet. Homeboy. HOMIE. This is not Sherlock and John Watson we are talking about here.

10a. Album for free #1: JET 'Shaka Rock' -- I am very, very particular about my rock music, but JET always manages to provide me with at least one song that makes me go "fuck yeah!" In this case see Track 1: K.I.A.

10b. Album for free #2: Crazy Heart OST -- Jeff Bridges earned the hell out of his Oscar and this is why. If you haven't seen the movie: SEE IT. I don't recommend things lightly.

11. Holy shit, LJ, man you change a few buttons and now I can't find anything!

12.

2.03 is the best episode of Southland ever. Hands down. I know I say that every week, but that's because it gets better every week. To quote [livejournal.com profile] maurheti:

When something loved is lost, and there's been grief and anger and feelings, and then suddenly that thing comes back, there's always -- for me anyway -- that moment of anxiety: Will this thing live up to the memories I have of it? Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes, rarely, wonderfully, my memories haven't done it justice. Oh, Southland. You are so still my boyfriend.

So, this week I'm not holding discussions, because frankly, Southland is at the point where, like The Wire, I don't feel the need to talk about it much. I don't feel the need to pimp it to non-believers. After this week I'm not even sure I need to write for it. Southland speaks for itself eloquently and at this point either you're in, and you appreciate what you've got, or you're out and this is moot.

I would like to address something from last week's post, however, where I protested vociferiously about this girl who I believed to be a new version of Olivia. A few of you have informed me that this is not a new Olivia, but some other sister altogether, although her name and her origins are a fucking mystery. I highly doubt she's Ben's full-blooded sister, half-sister at the most. But I don't know because they are not explaining this to me on the show and that is driving me fucking mental. However, in light of the amazingness of tonight's episode I'm gonna let this slide. For now. Even though other non-Olivia sister is an LA slick!chick -- it's not like you can choose family.

*I don't watch Damages, but I heard this line in a trailler and it cracked me up.

when the new season started and I was reminded of how much I wanted Cooper/Sherman slash, I went looking and I found you, and then I stalked your journal for a week without saying anything. hahhaha. but now I'm saying something.

HI. your southland fic makes me happy in my fannish place.

I was as confused as you about the new unnamed sister, so I did something I never do and went to the official site. that says the other sister's name is Chloe, and I think you're right, she's meant to be a half-sister as well. now that we know there are *two* half-sisters and one of them is the same age as Ben, I have to wonder who was the affair--Ben's mom or the girls'. it's also interesting to me that he has a relationship with both half-sisters, given how he hates his dad and the girls seem kind of patience-trying.

wow, that was a lot of splooge from someone you don't even know. I think I'm starved for squee on this front. heads-up, friending you to better stalk your fic :)

Ooh, thanks for the music; I'd been meaning to check out both. Also, both those videos made my life.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I am kind of afraid to read it.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! That was rather amazing wasn't it? Who else but John could manage to wrangle a firetruck for Ben, because Ben had the day from hell? OH JOHN, WE LOVE YOU SO.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Even though NBC dropped Southland I may have to give them a permanent pass for simply the existence of Southland

Hmmm. It's a thought.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
EVERYTHING. EVERY-fucking-THING. I have nothing to say, nothing to write about. I just... I am in awe.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It was SPECTACULAR. Best hour of TV in the last eighteen months.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Baby it was spectacular. I don't have words anymore. I don't need to talk about it. I don't need to write. I just sit and bask. How could anybody add anything to that?

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweetie is this comment for [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore or me? I think you might've put it in the wrong place if it's for me. But I am very glad you and your neon scrunchie (WHY ARE THOSE COMING BACK?!) Ahem. Yes. Southland wins everything.

[identity profile] chicklet-girl.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Dear Tony - It is on. Yes, again. Love, X.

Sing it. I am perfectly happy to spend the next decade watching RDJ alternate between Tony and Holmes. I hope he likes metal costumes and Victorian frock coats a lot.

Is anybody watching Justified? What are your thoughts? I was gonna watch it, but it's on opposite Southland and I wouldn't stop watching Southland even if the house was on fire.

I forgot to record it while I was watching Southland. But I adore Timothy Olyphant, so there's that.

I highly doubt she's Ben's full-blooded sister, half-sister at the most.

Maybe she's a stepsister? I didn't really try to puzzle it out last week, mostly because I spent that scene trying to kill Wade with my eyes. Apparently I'm taking the wrong vitamins for developing eye-lasers.

Southland is at the point where, like The Wire, I don't feel the need to talk about it much.

Yes. THIS. I don't know why, but the things I like the most, I don't really talk about. I'm content to let them be.

ETA: Regina King somehow became EVEN MORE AWESOME:

How is TNT treating you?
It’s night and day. It's like you had this great mom, and all of a sudden she becomes a horrible, drug-addict mom, and you go to live with your auntie, and she’s awesome, and you have a bed again, and you’re getting to school on time, and you’re getting breakfast every morning.

So NBC is a horrible, drug-addict mom?
Comparatively.

IDEK.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay! I will try to catch a rewatch.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it would be a huge mistake to cancel something as amazing as Southland, but I am exceedingly biased.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The one day Ben desperately needed John he was on his own; that's how life will be. That realization had to make him physically ill. And Chickie and her perishable skills. John YELLING. And then Ben dressing like a little-John and John checking to make sure he was okay. And the favor that John had to call in with Cesar's cousin and get rid of all those parking ticket just to get a fire truck and not just any fire truck but one with a LADDER to come and get down some child's sneakers b/c Ben's day was just that bad. We agree that in the space between leaving the station and the shoe retrival there was a very fraught phone call between John and Ben where Ben's voice kept cracking like he was going to cry and then he couldn't stop yelling and after they hung up John was like, okay, I have to sort this out. For his sake. And then they get the sneakers and drop them off at the asshole house and after that Ben just looks so broken that John is like, get in the car I'm taking you home and Ben's like, no I can't my car is here. And there's this stalemate, and eventually, John just pats Ben on the shoulder and Ben kind of reaches out and grabs him, clinging on for dear life and John can't do much besides pat him on the back. He won't even lie and say it'll all be okay, because it won't be.

Man, it's a good thing I don't feel the need to talk about the show or write anything anymore. ::gets bitch-slapped by hypocrisy::

[identity profile] svilleficrecs.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually thought it was pretty darn good.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe the girls' mom was the other woman? Maybe Ben's mom is. These are pressing questions! I need answers! As for Ben being friends with the girls, I think being an only child for the most part he just was lonely and here were people who weren't really responsible for how things turned out but who he could kind of identify with. Although, based on Ben's hostility I'm inclined to think that his mom was the wife and the girls are part of a long-term affair, which, wow.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that I don't think it'll be good, I'm just concerned that it will lead me down a road of depravity and loose morals and you know I'm such a nice girl.

ETA: THAT WAS SO MONEY. You win, thank you.

FRAUGHT. And John is trying to get information, and it's taking like, forever, because although Ben thinks he's being coherent, he really, really isn't. This is not how he thought his first solo day would go. When he was riding with John, he felt like he was getting somewhere, that life was crazy but at least somewhat manageable; now he realizes that even being a police, that's not necessarily the case, and he is trying to tell John that along with everything else, and... John gets it. But it doesn't change things.

::gets bitch-slapped by hypocrisy::

Clearly I am next in line!

Also, I am still not over the fact that those women looked like Daisy. Oh, Southland.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)

I've consumed most of the world's carrot supply in an effort to make this happen; I'm SOL. So if you find a shortcut you better share!

Southland is at the point where, like The Wire, I don't feel the need to talk about it much.

Yes. THIS. I don't know why, but the things I like the most, I don't really talk about. I'm content to let them be.

For real, dude. I just... and they... firetrucks. And honey, I like this one. And children with Asperger's and perishable skills.

OH REGINA KING! SO FUCKING AWESOME!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, now that I am thoroughly depressed by Ben getting broken, yet again, I am comforting myself with the end of the day hug that goes on entirely too long. It's a little awkward for John, because this is not professional, but Ben clearly needs it, and he didn't even go for the bro hug, but is pretty much clamped on, and John can smell his shampoo.

Now did they all look like Daisy or do you just have your hateration sunglasses on?

But you know that this is just the set-up for amazingly incandescent shenanigans in the bedroom, right? Or actually not even the bedroom, because why wait that long when there's the area rug in the hall? I mean, it's not going to happen this night -- this night, Ben goes home and finally, finally manages to pass out thinking about how solid John felt. But then? The next day? Oh. I have plans.

Now did they all look like Daisy or do you just have your hateration sunglasses on?

I... might have had hateration sunglasses on. But they do follow a type! No blonds here.

[identity profile] cosmic.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
3. Yes. A million times yes. Tony Stark is my favourite superhero boyfriend. &herats;

10. Thanks for the music!

12. Best episode EVER. They're all just killing me: Sherman getting hit with everything on his first day when he most needs his Cooper; Cooper trying to reteach everything to Chickie; Chickie having to relearn everything because she doesn't know it anymore; Lydia and Cordero. I love this show so much.

12.a Cooper got him a fire truck! If that's not true love, I don't know what is.

12.b "Hands. Watch the hands." "Ok, dad!" ♥ ♥ ♥

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell me more about these plans. In particular how solid John felt. And I must confess the lack of female blondes thrills me to no end. The industry is gagging on them. What we need is a red-head. Plus, we already have two blonds, we don't need anybody detracting from that.

[identity profile] avid-slacker.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I can't believe how addicted I've gotten to this show. Protective Cooper was so adorable with his, "Watch their hands!"

Also your comment fic is awesome.
