Consider this the carrot - you don't want the stick*

1. Hi! to my new people. Hi! to my old people, too.

2. Happy St. Patrick's Day. May your river look green if it's dyed and not just like somebody peed in it.

3. Iron Man trailer Version 2.0 -- Dear Tony - It is on. Yes, again. Love, X.

4. 'Telephone' - Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce - I'm not a Gaga fan, however, I appreciate her as an entertainer. This is entertaining as hell. It even gave me a moment of, "shall we write this?" And then I came back to earth.

5. People, please, for the love of whatever, can you stop drinking from the 'I Am a Speshul Snowflake Kool-Aid'?

6. OK Go 'This Too Shall Pass' - It's true, one day The Great Depression 2.0 will be over. Dunno when, but one day. In the meanwhile, this video will make your day better.

7. Is anybody watching Justified? What are your thoughts? I was gonna watch it, but it's on opposite Southland and I wouldn't stop watching Southland even if the house was on fire.

8. I am watching The Pacific. I need to see more of it before I formulate a proper opinion.

9. The word is 'homes' not holmes. Homes as in home skillet. Homeboy. HOMIE. This is not Sherlock and John Watson we are talking about here.

10a. Album for free #1: JET 'Shaka Rock' -- I am very, very particular about my rock music, but JET always manages to provide me with at least one song that makes me go "fuck yeah!" In this case see Track 1: K.I.A.

10b. Album for free #2: Crazy Heart OST -- Jeff Bridges earned the hell out of his Oscar and this is why. If you haven't seen the movie: SEE IT. I don't recommend things lightly.

11. Holy shit, LJ, man you change a few buttons and now I can't find anything!

12.

2.03 is the best episode of Southland ever. Hands down. I know I say that every week, but that's because it gets better every week. To quote [livejournal.com profile] maurheti:

When something loved is lost, and there's been grief and anger and feelings, and then suddenly that thing comes back, there's always -- for me anyway -- that moment of anxiety: Will this thing live up to the memories I have of it? Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes, rarely, wonderfully, my memories haven't done it justice. Oh, Southland. You are so still my boyfriend.

So, this week I'm not holding discussions, because frankly, Southland is at the point where, like The Wire, I don't feel the need to talk about it much. I don't feel the need to pimp it to non-believers. After this week I'm not even sure I need to write for it. Southland speaks for itself eloquently and at this point either you're in, and you appreciate what you've got, or you're out and this is moot.

I would like to address something from last week's post, however, where I protested vociferiously about this girl who I believed to be a new version of Olivia. A few of you have informed me that this is not a new Olivia, but some other sister altogether, although her name and her origins are a fucking mystery. I highly doubt she's Ben's full-blooded sister, half-sister at the most. But I don't know because they are not explaining this to me on the show and that is driving me fucking mental. However, in light of the amazingness of tonight's episode I'm gonna let this slide. For now. Even though other non-Olivia sister is an LA slick!chick -- it's not like you can choose family.

*I don't watch Damages, but I heard this line in a trailler and it cracked me up.

I will be watching the fuck out of Justified and Southland just as soon as they come down the intertubes.

The word is 'homes' not holmes.

Ahahaha, people do that, really??

So, this week I'm not holding discussions, because frankly, Southland is at the point where, like The Wire, I don't feel the need to talk about it.

Okay, but can we talk about how awesome Cooper and Ben were? Because they so were.

(but maybe not tonight because I have to go to bed. Oy. but you know where to find me to tell me about the awesomeness of John Cooper, should you so desire.)

[identity profile] slashfairy.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Southland. *hearts*

Not started The Pacific or Justified yet.

Thanks for the music.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Southland was like. Yeah, I can't even talk about it.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
What do I say? "I don't want to talk about it."

You say, "I know you don't want to talk about it, but let's talk about it."

I feel like I'm the man in this relationship, which makes you, what? My wife?

Truthfully, darlin', there's not much to say. I don't think talking about it even does it justice: it just is. Not only do I not feel compelled to talk about it, I don't even feel the need to write about it.

To me, talking about the awesomeness of Ben and John is like talking about the weather. It speaks for itself, they speak for themselves. Anything I add is superfluous.

Welcome!

Duly noted!

I know what you mean about Southland. I wrote a reaction post, but a lot of it ended up superlatives, and I still don't feel like it really said anything close to what the episode made me feel. That's the sign of some damn good TV.

[identity profile] eystri.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
My only thing to say about Southland is this: "Hands - watch the hands." "Okay, Dad!" :D

And thanks for the music! Crazy Heart was a very pleasant surprise.

[identity profile] musicofyourname.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't realize he said "dad" there. I didn't think it was possible, but... yeah, now I love that episode even more. Wow.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
The dad thing was definitely priceless.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Unlike 99.99% of TV, Southland started out with the bar high and just keeps getting better.

[identity profile] eystri.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Right?

[identity profile] svilleficrecs.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
RE: Telephone fic http://yeats.livejournal.com/236831.html <- it's already been done, thank goodness. :)

[identity profile] odetteisodile.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Um, so you're going to write a fic about how John comes when Ben calls him and totally uses up a favour with a firemen (what did you do for him Cooper?) to get down a kids sneakers cause he knows Bens all messed up and needs to fix something, right? Please?

I love Southland and I concur this episode rocked and I will probably be watching it online tomorrow. In theory I would love to discuss the shit out of what I just saw and highlight my fav moments, but I realized right after it ended that I would just be basically rewriting the script. Even though NBC dropped Southland I may have to give them a permanent pass for simply the existence of Southland. (And Friday Night Lights, and Chuck. Seriously NBC... how can you simultaneously create awesome and fail so hard at the same time?)

[identity profile] sadiegrl.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Can you please add in their matching outfits and identical Clark Kent poise? What about Ben going to get up from that curb and thinking twice because it hurt too much to just freaking stand? And Ben's little knowing look.

Yes, I rather agree with that feeling. And U-Boat was a hell of an episode. Ben McK is rocking Ben SHerman like nobody's business. And I adored that last scene. And Regina King and her new partner... and everything. EVERYTHING.

SOUTHLAND!!

[identity profile] syllic.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, this. I know you've basically been dragging me to the party long enough that I'm still wearing a neon scrunchie even though it's now 2010, but I finally came, decade-inappropriate outfit and all, and.

SOUTHLAND!!!!

(Also, thank you for your music generosity: as you know, I trust you fairly implicitly on this matter, so am downloading both.)

1. Hi!
8. There are some guys crazy about BOB, GK, and The Pacific in here, South Korea. Every Korean man must perform military dudties for 22months. So they know about difficulties that soldiers go through. They totally understand Captin America things, too. Hahaha. That might be the reason why they are so into these series. I'm going to watch The Pacific when it ends.
12. I love Southland! An officer's awkward Korean accent cracked me up, though. All the relationships in this show are so interesting. I hope TNT won't cancel it.

So glad that I'm not the only one that has a pet peeve on 'homes/holmes' useage

I think Justified might become my new obsession! Thank god its on FX because that network replays shows all the time. You should be able to catch it without missing Southland!

I would follow your music recs into a burning house, so yes, albums, snagging -- and thank you!

And also, SOUTHLAND. That is all.
