A Functional Post

1. I am going to redesign my LJ in the spirit of the New Year (correction: I'm going to beg Lar to redesign it (Enormous thanks to [livejournal.com profile] blunaris for designing Advanced Sarcasm in the first place)). I just have no ideas what to do. God, that's a first. Suggestions anyone?
edited at 3:00 pm: this is also the part where I point out that I adore Becky and I thank her a million trillion times for designing this for me in the first place. Errr. Yeah. No more champagne for me.

2. I need a better mp3 service than Gnutella, and Kazaa makes me itch. Does anybody have a *good* service, with lots of selection (Rolling Stones to Snow Patrol to DJ Shadow to Nina Simone), that's free?

3. I thought the movie was brilliant. I adore the hobbits more everyday, and you know Aragorn is fighting Legolas for the prettiest in the land. Okay, no, he's not pretty, y'all are right. He's hot. Anyway. Did anybody else go 'say what' when the horses appeared out of *nowhere* in the Battle of Helms Deep?

I use WinMX and have been happy with it. I've gotten a lot of obscure electronica downloads from it, as well as more mainstream stuff. Nothing's as good as Napster was, of course; when everyone was using the same program the selection was so much better. But I've had pretty good luck with WinMX and I've been very happy with the way the program performs, and it's completely free of spyware. You can get it at: http://download.com.com/3000-2166-10165358.html?tag=lst-0-24

Re: the prettiest. Damn, they're both pretty. I'd like to have them both. Can't I have them both? Aragorn's the type who would grill you up a venison steak from a deer he killed himself, write you a passionate sonnet on the spot and then make dirty love to you by the campfire. Legolas is the type who would woo you with the finest in elven culture, elaborate feasts, beautiful clothing, delicious, slow, poetic elf sex in beds with carved bedposts and the most decadent elvish linen. One shouldn't have to choose between these two things, I think. One should be able to have both.

The line forms behind me, by the way.

But I have to say that of the two actors, Viggo seems like a really fascinating person. I read the interview in Premiere with him, and I adored the way he would approach the interviewer's questions from these odd angles. It seems like his mind works in a very unique, twisty way. Plus he was married to Excene from X, which I did not know. That's damn impressive. She's his son Henry's mom. Probably everyone on the planet knew this but me. I also didn't know until two days ago that Sean Astin is the child of Patty Duke and John Astin of Gomez Adams fame. Clearly I'm a little slow on the uptake, here. And also rambling.

I read the interview in Premiere with him

You know, I read that this morning (finally) and while I have no doubt that he's probably this intense guy who never runs out of things to do or say, he'd also make me buggy by being all deep and introspective over the simplest things.

Not that this keeps me from joining the line forming behind you, nope.

I was just going on and on about that interview to someone (Z?) the other day. Damn, he really is a man after my own heart. Except the sleeping outside. But the being wacky as all get out and directionless and focused at the same time, I just adore that.

Nate has been in love with Viggo for years, though. He and Vincent Gallo. So now I am like a bandwagon jumper in my household, so I keep it down.

Damn. I'd brave a lot for that, I just now realized that. I think it was the promise of dirty sex what done me in ;) Also, Viggo wouldn't be bad, but I understand that he has issues with hygeine and I can't have that.

The most disturbing thing about the film for me was the Aragorn/Legolas slash-vibes, when after all this time I'd been so anti-slash vis-a-vis the two of them.

Sean Astin, far more importantly, is the kid from the Goonies!

What is X?

X is a very influential and important but relatively obscure punk/pop band from the early/mid eighties. Excene is/was one of the two frontpeople for the band, and is hipper than hip.

I actually knew that about Sean and The Goonies. Bless his heart, that will follow him for the rest of his life.

I worship the Goonies. That is all.

there are worse things than being a part of so many people's childhood memories. There is fame, and then there if fame. I think I would rather be a cherished part of millions of people's memories instead of say Trent Lott.

I'd rather be basically anything than Trent Lott.

can I get a hell yeah?
sorry, rap moment.

I am impressed, re your earlier remark, that Viggo was with a punk chick. He was already cool as all get out, and that only made him more so.

Not just any punk chick, either but THE punk chick. Sort of the Lou Reed of her particular genre and time. This woman is SERIOUSLY cool. I'm way more impressed that he was married to her than vice versa, actually. All the musicians I used to hang around with in Austin completely worshipped her.
