Just your friendly, neighborhood pimp.

1) The link for the new Prisoner of Azkaban trailer. I feel a cold coming on right around 4 June. Also? Jailbait. The other, other white meat.

2) Lenore talks about how to get what you want, if you keep thinking you're, you know, entitled to anything from your fandom. In other words. How to make the most of your fannish experience by relying on yourself.

3) On last night’s The O.C. – Welcome back, Josh, we’ve missed you. I heard about that writer’s block thingy, it’s a bitch, ain’t it? *adores madly*

4a) I’m not sure what I shall write today. Does anybody have any visuals that I can work with? First come, first served (provided that I can actually think of something of course).

4b) Does anybody know where I can find that Dom/Billy photograph where Dom's wearing the scarf and Billy's got the purple shirt, I believe it was the Berlin premiere. I'm suddenly inspired by Dom looking like Rudolph.

Fuck. I'm not supposed to talk anything non-slash in this journal, but it's impossible to resist. That's a pretty rare combination there: appreciation for some polished UG hip-hop and Norwegian folk rock.

<3

Slashers who like hip hop are also rare. Any recs? A few years ago, when I was going through a shameful songfic phase, I did a hip hop one and its reception was noticeably less enthusiastic than that which I got for others.

The great thing about Lerche is that he's one of those singers that you can sort of fool yourself into thinking is singing just for you. When he's live, in his music videos. He's still got that shy thing going for him.

I have an appreciation for a wide variety of things. It comes in handy when your favorite singers like to rap and sing country and do god only knows what else.

Musically or story-wise? Musically I tend to prefer intelligence in my rhymes. No rims, hoes or crack slinging, which naturally brings me to Kanye West and A Tribe Called Quest (god, I miss old skool rap) and Jurassic 5 and things like that. I'm not sure how I feel about Dizzee Rascal just yet, but you know, Nas is always a good man and The Roots are just *makes sounds of bliss*

He's just charisma personafied, but I'm not sure how I feel about the new LP. It seems very, well, polished, and perhaps I perfer my Sondre a bit more unfinished and earnest.

Musically. People tend to forgive the story as long as it has descriptive boy-on-boy grinding, have you noticed?

TRIBE! One of my favorites, and I love West. He does quality collabs too, and that's what makes some listenable mainstream a la Kweli. I am definitely down with the rap-centric rap, which mostly you do find in old school and underground. Some of my favorite older stuff is Da Bush Babees (We Run Things and The Love Song w/ Mos Def, cause he's another man who picks his collaborations with taste), Common when he was called Common Sense, The Souls of Mischief ('93 'Til Infinity), Roots, definitely. Speaking of rap and country together, have you heard the De La Soul/Teenage Fanclub collaboration Fallin' from some crappy movie's soundtrack. The stuff that makes today's mp3 world a utopian thing.

LOVE NAS. It weirds me out when I listen to his older stuff and hear him making shout-outs to the Neptunes. Never paid attention then, but they've made their mark.

If you're looking at Dizzee, I've been getting into European hip-hop lately. Ty is really, really good. So good. He's got definite old school influence. German hip-hop's got a better ratio of quality to crap. It's white-boy stuff, but they shout-out the old school masters. Massive Tone and Absolute Beginner are awesome.

(god, I miss old skool rap) and Jurassic 5
I saw them a couple months ago at one of those godawful arena shows. Went for the Gary Jules/Jem/Beck, was blown away by the HIP HOP. God damn, they were one of the most amazing performance groups I've ever seen. Hip hop shows can be so bad. When they did What's Golden I just had to stand up and dance (which is saying a lot, because LA crowds are so lame they suck the dance out of everyone).

God, I'm being embarrassingly enthusiastic. All my friends are either indie rock fans or mainstream hip hop dancers. It's been awhile since I talked about old school.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new LP. It seems very, well, polished
I feel the same way, actually. Some Norwegian girl who's had a little longer to listen to it promised it will grow on me thow, so I'm gonna hope. I admit Faces Down was something that went from a work I liked to one I loved only over time.

Oooh! Hip hop!

Just jumping in here:
Tribe and the Roots-- <3<3<3 I saw Tribe oh-so-long-ago. And the Roots too, about 4 times, once with De La Soul: Yes. So good!

I see you like Souls of Mischief "'93 to Infinity". One of my favorite favorite albums. So you like the Hieroglyphics or any of the other artists in that group? Del, Casual, Extra Prolific, Domino? I've listened to them since, like, 92, 92. I *finally* got to see Del and the Hieroglyphics a few months ago in a small club here in New Orleans and it was one of the *best* hip hop shows! I love Del the Funky Homosapien!

A friend from Chicago introduced me to Common Sense when he was still called that. I liked him too, but never owned any of his music since other friends had it. And Nas, I had an old album (the one with "if I ruled the world" on it) but it has been MIA for years now. Mer.

I definitely like the Heiroglyphics. Not too big a fan of Del by himself, though, his style is just a bit too... um something for me. Loose? Three Emcees will forever remain one of the hip-hop classics, though. I like him when he collaborates.

As for MIA albums, that's what mp3s are for. You already bought it once, you don't need to resupport the millionaire.
