My god-mother's in London, and takes the tube to King's Cross every morning for work, and her husband's not heard from her yet, and she's not picking up her cell phone, and this is possibly where I begin to panick a little bit. I hope all of the people you care about are safe.

I hope they all are too. Knowing them, they're out getting pissed and have no idea that there are people who are actually worried about them. I shall keep your god-mother in my thoughts. Safe home for all.

Your post is an eerie reminder of September 11, when people I scarcely knew, from the internet and various fandoms, all emailed me to find out if I was all right, because they knew I lived in Manhattan. My heart goes out to you, all of you, your friends, your families, and also the strangers neither you nor I nor those terrorists ever knew, the people who died or were injured today. There may be plans behind these terrible acts, but there is no sense, and no humanity. It's easy for me to believe that these so-called "religious" fanatics are not religious at all, but soulless, godless, and less than human.

You don't really know me - except perhaps as your pedantic occasional commentator - but as someone who saw today's events unfold from that first agency flash at 9 ish saying there was an explosion at Liverpool Street, later attributed to a power surge, etc... to the first inklings that perhaps that wasn't just another demonstration of the crapness of London Underground but that yes, it might be a terrorist attack (which pretty much happened when the reports about the bus came in) I appreciate your support to us in the city... It's been a mad, intense, hectic day, and I - we, the whole of London frankly - am still coming to terms with what the fuck actually happened. And counting my blessings - all friends and family accounted for, and I think all colleagues, although things might still develop.

Tough city, though. We'll recover. And it's not like we haven't been waiting for this since 9/11, and then Madrid. Still - tonight we're licking our wounds.
