And now, we talk.

I am finished with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The Good

+ Slytherins! Slytherins every fucking where! Amen and pass the tax rebate. Not that Slytherins pay taxes, but you know in the spirit of being really fucking happy. I am babbling my ass off.
+ The Vanishing Cabinet. I wibbled. I admit it.
+ Blaise! Blaise! Blaise!
+ Theodore! Theodore! Theodore!

The Bad

+ There was, like, no Neville action. The baby [livejournal.com profile] hackthis was so sad.
+ Where the fuck was Charlie during all this?
+ Lavender and Ron. [insert shuddering here]
+ I knew we couldn't get through the whole book without at least one temper tantrum.
+ Draco crying in the bathroom to Myrtle. My world is rocked to its axis. CRYING?!

The Come Again?

+ Severus is bad bad bad. Actually this may be in the Good categeory. I will have to think on it.
+ Around the world, the Harry/Ginny shippers unite. I will hide in the bunker from them all. What's really killing me? It wasn't done have badly at all. Shit, I almost liked it. My world. It is over.
+ Harry/Draco EVERY-FUCKING-WHERE. Merlin's goolies, you couldn't move for the tension.

[Poll #534664]

I haven't checked LJ in three days and the idea of going back that far makes me break out in hivse, so if you did anything interesting or posted a story, or you know, you saw something crazy, let me know here. Please. Ta!

*evil laughter*

Actually, I wasn't for or against before; but I adored them here. In no small part because they acted like probably the most adult couple in there - and Ginny's such a badass, without coming off as a Mary Sue or a Herm/Ron wannabe. They were just cool.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I never really thought about it, because it seemed such a ludicrious concept. The minute I started the book and realised Ginny was, you know, being developed into this snarky, spunky character I said to myself 'Self: Watch out!'

[identity profile] girlandetc.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
i have always loved ginny like that. i think everyone who is ranting that she is so marysueish (pretty, smart, good at quidditch, gorgeous shiny hair), has totally forgotten cho.. cho who is pretty, smart, good at quidditch, and has pretty shiny hair. wait, am i missing something here?

... maybe they're just the people who hate cho, too. ugh.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_riz/ 2005-07-18 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Where the fuck was Charlie during all this?

SERIOUSLY. There's one throwaway line that's something like "Oh, and Charlie wasn't coming home for Christmas." The end. To which I said, "Fuck." I think she regrets creating him or something. :P

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She gave the Weasley's seven kids! Five would've been just fine.

Dude, Charlie needs to sweep in and relieve Remus of Tonks. For real.

Of course, Charlie is probably off having hot quidditch dragon-taming boyloving with Oliver. Sigh.

[identity profile] babyofthegroup.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd better be, if he knows what's good for him!

and also for me, kthx. YUM.

Obviously.

To clarify my "other" vote on Worst Book. It was the phrasing of the question that got me. I'd say the writing quality is least good in OotP (mostly due to lack of editing), but I love that book. My least favorite is the first one. I couldn't bear to vote for OotP, though it was the real answer to the question. And so I wimped out.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I know the poll is a little sloppy. I hadn't had my morning tea yet.

[identity profile] dorrie6.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
ps: I always pegged Draco for the crying-in-the-bathroom type.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't! [Is all veklempt]

[identity profile] pandarus.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Severus is bad bad bad

????

No, Severus is good good good.

::is puzzled::

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but from the outside, he is all bad bad bad... That's not the real issue here though, the real issue is when are you going to write more Cairo Sunset.

[identity profile] amberlynne.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
This (http://www.livejournal.com/users/garlandgraves/3409.html) is a lovely theory about Dumbledore's Death, Snape and who RAB is. And I love the addition comments on that theory here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/freakishone/137283.html) because they make so much sense it hurts.

I don't have anything intelligent to say about it, really. Although, I did enjoy Draco crying. Heh. ;)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Draco crying?! I know I will be writing about this, as soon as I overcome my shock.

[identity profile] alegriagraciela.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
+ There was, like, no Neville action.

*seconds the sadness*

[identity profile] merrymelody.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
This is so nerdy of me, but your icon is lovely. (And I don't even care for Neville particularly!)

[identity profile] alegriagraciela.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] r1cepudding.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Ashley (http://www.lff.org.uk/films_details.php?FilmID=419)

And re my 'other' answer: post-Dumbledeath, I say we all do what *I* am doing and page frantically through the book looking for evidence on how he isn't really dead, and it's all something to do with phoenixes and non-verbal spells. *nod*

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*dies*

Are you going to, I don't know, *write* about this by any chance? What? I gotta ask.

[identity profile] zoetrope.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, that's supposed to say Ginny's flowery scent. I can't type like this! *ouch*

[identity profile] zoetrope.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw :) *feels nurtured*

[identity profile] kattiya.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. I knew you'd be feeling the love, and has already been mentioned, cause Blaise! WOO. Of course I thought of you, cause hot, black and snarky? Oh yeah....

[identity profile] kattiya.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
AND also, do you know of anyone who's writing Blaise/Dean? Maybe Blaise/Dean/Ginny? Cause that's what I want to see. Harry/Ginny makes me break out in hives.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The minute I read that, I put the book down and said to myself: 'Oh, it's on now!'

[identity profile] liseuse.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
All the Slytherin! It made me so happy. Now all we need is for Book 7 to introduce us properly to some of the Ravenclaws.
But yes, seriously where was Nevill! I had high hopes after the train, but they were dashed.
Apart from the mountain of required reading (which I wrote because it's preying on my mind somewhat) my post HBP obsession: Narcissa and Bellatrix, oh and Blaise.

I think think that this guy is suitably hot to be Blaise. 'Cept, I don't know who it is. Woe.

[identity profile] parthenia14.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I seriously thought you and ethrosdemonwere psychic when I read about the Vanishing cabinet and Montague.

and Blaise! Wow.

I'm thinking slightly East African/ high cheekbones but i'm struggling to think of anyone who'd be right. He sounds very lovely. Philip from the really ancient and rather dubious British sitcom, Rising Damp is the only person I can think of right now..

Blaise is just fabulous. Think of your fanfic powers, when you get to it.

[identity profile] bloodybrilliant.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my! :D YES! I thought of you also when I heard about this. I was spoiled a bit on it. I didn't know anything else of the book but my friend was all "slkdfjlskjfsd BLAISE OMG! JUST WAIT!" And I was TELL ME NOW! and I died when she did. I was so amused and happy for that description.

I can't wait to see what you will do!

I've no idea about WHO, but I found this guy model(in my icon) and made it right when I found out. To just be there haha. His name is "Sandy" and that is all I could find out except that he is Sengalese. There is another icon of him in my icons with another boy that I dubbed Theodore (though I will always picture Cillian as Theodore, thanks to you. hee!)

I so loved this book!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He's absolutely gorgeous. I kind of want him for Dean now. Hmmm. I did some Blaise casting, which I think I will stick with, but who knows. That hat is killer.

[identity profile] bloodybrilliant.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yes he is! I tried all sorts of random Google searches and got him very near the top. I thought he fit. He is very dark, as I pictured, and has the eyes...and he seems to hold himself very well.

I didn't know you cast Blaise already! I shall have to run over and see. :)

Yes. The hat.

[identity profile] pandarus.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. Yes. That's the kind of picture I've been trying to find - tall, elegant, regal, very dark skinned. Yummy. I keep using the phrase, but JKR's description totally gave me an image of Blaise as looking like Naomi Campbell's hot little wizard brother. And there he is, in your icon. Very well done, you!

[identity profile] bloodybrilliant.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY! I was amazingly lucky. Once my search started getting results, he was near the top of the list. I think we pictured him nearly the same. :) When I saw what you had written about Naomi Campbell's brother, I thought, That sounds about right! hee!

Thanks, you! ;P

Where the fuck was Charlie during all this?

Off shagging Oliver in the wilds of Puddlemere.

in response to my answer of 'other'...

[identity profile] torchthisnow.livejournal.com 2005-07-18 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't give a rat's left testicle when Dumbledore bit it because apparently, he's a huge fucking moron. It's hard to have sympathy for someone whose whole effing reason for trusting somebody was "He felt weally, weally bad about it!"

Jackass.

Are you and [livejournal.com profile] lalejandra still going to insist that I'm a Gryffindor?

casting

[identity profile] mskat.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, Blaise (http://handson.provocateuse.com/show/boris_kodjoe), though a little too old.

Again, too old and wrong side of the pond to boot, but, Blaise in 10 years (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1013003/).

Still too old for Blaise (http://bestof.provocateuse.com/show/ray_allen) but pretty.

Gah, Blaise's older brother? (http://bestof.provocateuse.com/show/shemar_moore)

I think you mentioned Wentworh Miller (http://bestof.provocateuse.com/show/wentworth_miller) before.

Too bad all of my hot men sites feature older hot men.

Oooh, Michael Ealy. Very pretty.

Re: casting

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, there was a lot of 'damn, why is he so old!' earlier today.

[identity profile] kismeteve.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
The whole Lavender and Ron didn't really bother me because it seemed like JKR was mocking everyone who randomly ships them in order to stick Harry with Hermione. I could be giving her too much credit, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I loved it just a little bit (even if I have been known to ship H/Hr, I can't stand it when people stick Ron with random people or make him evil!Ron).

I've never been very pro-or anti-Ginny, but this book made me love her. My god, she was a smartass, and so very much a Weasley. Ginny in HBP was the kind of girl I could see being related to Fred n'George. I can dig Harry/Ginny now.

I ended the book going "Where's the Neville??" much in the fashion of the "where's the beef?" lady.

[identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Khleo Thomas (http://www.nykolelynn.com/khleo2.jpg) for Blaise Zabini :D I think he's still a little young, though...

[identity profile] veradeath.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I loved that Harry/Draco was being reinforeced. There's hardly a need for subtext now. Yes! After years of rooting for the ship. I cried when I realised that there was no Neville action. I was elated when I read Blaise's gender! And now I have an image of this sexy, smart, snarktastic black youth. I'm still not sure about JKR's Harry/Ginny, though.
