Where I get my bitch on.

Some people get their freak on, today, I get my bitch on.

1. Stargate Atlantis. I don't get the appeal. I've tried, repeatedly. It bored me to tears. That's not my beef though, because I have my most beloved Battlestar Galactica. What is killing me is that everyone, and I do mean pretty much every fucking person I know, is loving this show with an unholy passion, and they're turning that unholy passion into stories that I can't read! [livejournal.com profile] lyra_sena wrote fucking guitar porn! [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock has some crazy series about strippers (that is what that's about, yeah? I'm only going off the title). [livejournal.com profile] seperis is writing, like, assassin-fic or something. And here I am with nothing! That sucks. But you'll never get me to that show, so.

2. Speaking of shows I don't fancy, Firefly is another one. This isn't me telling people that they can't be all happy about Serenity, since apparently if SGA isn't your show, this one is. I mean everyone has their space show, and even [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon likes this one (or maybe that's just Nathan Fillion's bum), but just, no. I do think Gina Torres rocks, but that's probably because she's married to Laurence Fishburne.

3. And while we're on the topic of things that are boring me to tears – this season of Lost sucks "hairy dog bollocks" as I told [livejournal.com profile] estrella30. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this one is mine. Last season was fast paced, every moment resulting in fifty different consequences. 44 days were covered in 22 episodes. This season we are four episodes in and still on the same fucking day. Nothing is fucking happening on this show, people; it's boring as hell. They have 44 potential people to use, why they hell aren't they addressing them? Stop spreading your legs for everyone, JJ, and focus on the people at home. Bringing in new characters is not the way to solve your issues. He pulled this same shit on Alias, and it's so not necessary.

Uh, yeah, that's pretty much it for me today. Thanks to everyone for answering my iPod questions. I'm off to search for something of interest to read that's not SGA.

ETA: I should point out that there are shows that I do love: Kichen Confidential, Grey's Anatomy, Nip/Tuck, Made and What Not to Wear. Also, obviously Entourage and Battlestar Galactica, but they're on hiatus right now.

1 - I wholeheartedly agree.
2 - Amen, sistah!
3 - I lost interest last season, so I'm with you, just in retrospect.

That said, you should maybe start catering your writing to me and vice versa and we'll leave those others with their own stuff. Hee.

Also - Daniel Craig: the new Bond. Discuss (because I'm stuck somewhere in the mental loop of half-put on (or taken off) tuxedos)

Stargate Atlantis. I don't get the appeal. I've tried, repeatedly. It bored me to tears.

Word. Word on all three points. I missed last night's Lost and I don't even care. Unless Jin or Sawyer are naked and Jack and Kate finally have sex, I'm not all that interested.

Stargate Atlantis. I don't get the appeal

I hear ya. I do feel all sad and on the outside looking in, but I just have no interest in the show or anything and there's all this allegedly great fic being written that I can't/won't read, and it's like what *everyone* on my flist is talking and writing about 24/7.

[identity profile] serialkarma.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I am blaming this whine about everything I love in fandom today on the pointy shoes. Yis.

[identity profile] plumtastic.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
And then there are those of us that are kinda slutty and like damn near *everything*.

[identity profile] rhienelleth.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I watch SGA, and have even written fic for it, but...it is not the best SF show ever, nor does it even come close to BSG good. I wrote a post once about how it's my new Star Trek, and probably appeals to me on that level of inner geek.

Firefly, well, I don't get how people don't love it. But I get how you feel about both of these shows. This is pretty much my take on Veronica Mars. I've tried to watch it/love it for the sake of my f-list, which seems to adore it en masse. But...this season has been booooooooring thus far.

And Lost? ITA. I just knew this show was going to end up disappointing me ala Alias. *sigh*

[identity profile] theantimodel.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Dude I couldn't care less about the tv show, but I totaly read like, a shitton of the fic yesterday and I'm blaming it all on the fact that the writers in the fandom are so awesome. Uh. I started with [livejournal.com profile] astolat and it was all downhill from there. But in a good, porntastic way. Where I don't know anything about the show's canon but I like the way the fanfic's written.

3. WORD. I was kind of fed up with Lost when they didn't answer a single goddamned thing last season while the ending on Veronica Mars was a huge contrast in that it tied things up perfectly. But this season of Lost is even worse. I'm just not feeling very engaged with it because I feel like the writers have written themselves into a box and now they're just dragging their heels because it's too soon to give anything up and it's too late to change things.

[identity profile] mellafe.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny, I just posted about TV stuff myself. LOSTSUCKSSOMUCHOMG!!!

I do adore Grey's Anatomy. George!! I should have an icon for that one. Damn.

What is killing me is that everyone, and I do mean pretty much every fucking person I know, is loving this show with an unholy passion, and they're turning that unholy passion into stories that I can't read!

You get no sympathy from me. Or, that is, no more sympathy than you had for me when all the people I loved abandonded SV and started writing, like, I dunno... HP or QaF or DC all the time.

Word on 1 & 3. Although admittedly, Lost barely caught my interest for the first season's eps that I saw. Firefly is love, but only because BSG is on hiatus, and thus I have some squee to share for something else. Plus, it has Kaylee, and Simon.

KC, I still have to download. But Battlestar Galactica is so far above and beyond anything else in terms of the sheer love.

[identity profile] lyra-sena.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it when you get all hot and bothered. And just for it, I am not going to flake out on what I've promised you.

[identity profile] estrella30.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I love you so much and want to MARRY this post. My god, I just got SO TURNED ON ROWR!

You can get yer bitch on ANY day, baby *g*

I caught an epp of Lost(S2) an was utterly confused, caught the first half of S1 on SGA and was sorely disappointed. And FF never really appealed to me. But I have CSI, 4400, Kitchen Confidental, Prison Break and Supernatural. So I'm happy. ASnd there's lots of porn, too!

[identity profile] desdema.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
As a very new fan of SGA I just wanted to say that when I tried to watch random episodes of SGA in the past I was totally not feeling the love, to the point that I turned them off about halfway through. Part of the problem was that I had no idea what was going on with the series overall - I didn't understand where they were or how they got there or what the characters had already been through together. I'd also never watched the original Stargate series so I had no idea of the basic parameters of their scifi universe.

Given all this, what worked for me was watching the episodes in order from the very beginning. I still don't think the show itself is that fabulous but I fell in love with a couple of the main characters and they're what keeps me watching. And of course familiarity with SGA has given me access to the wealth of truly incredible fic and discussion that has come out of SGA fandom. This is definitely the biggest fandom I've been a part of since X-Files and there is so much to see and do here that for me it offsets the less-than-fabulousness that is sometimes the actual show.

Word to pretty much all of the above. I don't really care much for Firefly -- I saw it when it aired, didn't love it. I'm trying to rent it off Netflix to give it another chance but it's a long wait so.. oh well. ::shrugs:: As for Lost, I'm pissed because I liked last season and now it's just dragging on. Eghhh.

On a similar note, I don't mind if people pimp shows -- hey, that's how I find new things -- but if it doesn't hold my interest after the first few eps, later for that. I am a picky whore. It's fandom that's making me check out TV shows; I'd be happy with just watching movies, damn it.

Though I still have BSG to watch so I must start on that soon.

I kind of boggle that BSG hasn't become the Big Thing, because it's the best thing on television right now, and almost my favorite sci-fi show ever.

But the things that seem to get the most fandom attention seem to be the ones that are subtexty and pretty good but not necessarily Great Television/Literature. Stuff good enough to inspire lots of obsession and analysis while leaving you with a desire for more than you know you'll get from canon.

I have no desire to seek out BSG fanfic because the show satisfies me nearly completely. (Not that it doesn't still boggle me that everyone isn't /watching/ it. OMG.) SGA... I wouldn't have started watching if it weren't for the slash (well, and having gotten into SG-1). Even then it took a few eps to get me loving on the show for more than the snark and slashiness.

I haven't seen Lost, but I'm not one for straight-up drama or magical drama (don't know which Lost is, but it's definitely one of them). I like having the fantasy/sci-fi buffer at all times these days.

I do love Firefly (I watch Atlantis, but am not at all involved in fandomish activities for it. Mainly, I watch it because it's on the same night I'm watching SG-1 and BSG anything, plus my roommate is hugely into it). Firefly gets me the way all of Joss' stuff gets me, through the characters and the character interactions.

In my head, I do go around comparing BSG to Joss' stuff because I think that it also has very realistic characterization and character growth. But the vibes of the shows are different and they are dealing with different aspects of humanity. And Joss is a very distinctive writer and his brand of writing is something that definitely doesn't work for everyone (case in point, my brother).

*pats you muchly* I absolutely understand where you're coming from on number one--the part where everyone's writing it and you feel on the outside looking in. I was so, so ticked off with SGA for a better part of the late spring/early summer (and wrote about it in my SV longevity post), and...well, I'm glad I was able to get over my issues with things because otherwise, I'd be feeling pretty damn isolated right about now. So--many hugs, at least, because the feeling was not a happy one at all for me.

Can I ask what episodes you watched? I'm curious. :)

And man, something needs to get shaken up on Lost *badly* or they're just going to go in circles here. *sighs*

[identity profile] veredus.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you can console yourself with the knowledge that you are a Rebel! Nonconformist! A slasher who slashes to the beats of her own drums!

Go forth an revel in your rejection of peer pressure, you role model, you.

:)

*returns to reading SGA and Firefly slash*

What Not To Wear! Are you more of Suzannah and Trinny person or Stacy and Clinton? I love both pairs equally though the BBC pair tend to personalize more - saying "my arms are crap, yours are so much better!" and the like.

Though with my budget, watching too many episodes makes me look at what I can afford to replace in my wardrobe and despair.

[identity profile] mooncharm.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
apparently if SGA isn't your show, this one is.

So true. Cos SGA makes me want to yak but Firefly is lurve. ;) Nip/Tuck could so become my crack though if only I could manage to catch it when it's on. *woe*

[identity profile] rozza.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I don't care for SG1 and SGA at all either. I think it's the type of show that won't click with you if you don't watch from the beginning, or thereabouts. I also have never been tempted to watch Firefly. I think it looks boring. And thus I don't want to see the movie either which, from what I've heard, is not so much a "movie movie" but a season's worth of episodes shoved into two hours. I loved Buffy but I learned a long time ago that just because I love a certain artist does not mean I am required to absolutely adore everything he or she puts out.

Just because I am partake in several fandoms does not mean I am obligated to watch everything that is out there that is remotely fannish. However, because of you I did start watching Entourage last season and loved it. I need to get the first season on DVD.

[identity profile] ex-niciasus652.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking last night that Lost, lost something between the seasons. Because I am not that thrilled. I won't jump ship just yet, though.

I'm re-watching BSG 1st season, picking up things missed before. Love BSG!

I basically hate TV nowadays. My Space Show of choice is Babylon 5, and well. They're just not churning out the eps these days, are they? :/

I like the two episodes I've seen of Firefly on DVD, and I like Queer as Folk (also seen on DVD/download). But that's about it, if you don't count old reruns and Jeopardy.
