Where I get my bitch on.

Some people get their freak on, today, I get my bitch on.
1. Stargate Atlantis. I don't get the appeal. I've tried, repeatedly. It bored me to tears. That's not my beef though, because I have my most beloved Battlestar Galactica. What is killing me is that everyone, and I do mean pretty much every fucking person I know, is loving this show with an unholy passion, and they're turning that unholy passion into stories that I can't read!
lyra_sena wrote fucking guitar porn!
rageprufrock has some crazy series about strippers (that is what that's about, yeah? I'm only going off the title).
seperis is writing, like, assassin-fic or something. And here I am with nothing! That sucks. But you'll never get me to that show, so.
2. Speaking of shows I don't fancy, Firefly is another one. This isn't me telling people that they can't be all happy about Serenity, since apparently if SGA isn't your show, this one is. I mean everyone has their space show, and even
ethrosdemon likes this one (or maybe that's just Nathan Fillion's bum), but just, no. I do think Gina Torres rocks, but that's probably because she's married to Laurence Fishburne.
3. And while we're on the topic of things that are boring me to tears – this season of Lost sucks "hairy dog bollocks" as I told
estrella30. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this one is mine. Last season was fast paced, every moment resulting in fifty different consequences. 44 days were covered in 22 episodes. This season we are four episodes in and still on the same fucking day. Nothing is fucking happening on this show, people; it's boring as hell. They have 44 potential people to use, why they hell aren't they addressing them? Stop spreading your legs for everyone, JJ, and focus on the people at home. Bringing in new characters is not the way to solve your issues. He pulled this same shit on Alias, and it's so not necessary.
Uh, yeah, that's pretty much it for me today. Thanks to everyone for answering my iPod questions. I'm off to search for something of interest to read that's not SGA.
ETA: I should point out that there are shows that I do love: Kichen Confidential, Grey's Anatomy, Nip/Tuck, Made and What Not to Wear. Also, obviously Entourage and Battlestar Galactica, but they're on hiatus right now.

3 - I lost interest last season, so I'm with you, just in retrospect.
That said, you should maybe start catering your writing to me and vice versa and we'll leave those others with their own stuff. Hee.
Also - Daniel Craig: the new Bond. Discuss (because I'm stuck somewhere in the mental loop of half-put on (or taken off) tuxedos)

Date: 2005-10-13 05:39 pm (UTC)Word. Word on all three points. I missed last night's Lost and I don't even care. Unless Jin or Sawyer are naked and Jack and Kate finally have sex, I'm not all that interested.

Date: 2005-10-13 05:42 pm (UTC)I hear ya. I do feel all sad and on the outside looking in, but I just have no interest in the show or anything and there's all this allegedly great fic being written that I can't/won't read, and it's like what *everyone* on my flist is talking and writing about 24/7.

Date: 2005-10-13 05:57 pm (UTC)That's my entire issue! People are writing all this fantastic stuff and I can't enjoy any of it. I've tried divorcing the fic from the show, but it just doesn't quite mesh. We are totally on the outside looking in, whatever though, we can still party.

Date: 2005-10-13 05:48 pm (UTC)Firefly, well, I don't get how people don't love it. But I get how you feel about both of these shows. This is pretty much my take on Veronica Mars. I've tried to watch it/love it for the sake of my f-list, which seems to adore it en masse. But...this season has been booooooooring thus far.
And Lost? ITA. I just knew this show was going to end up disappointing me ala Alias. *sigh*

Date: 2005-10-13 05:51 pm (UTC)3. WORD. I was kind of fed up with Lost when they didn't answer a single goddamned thing last season while the ending on Veronica Mars was a huge contrast in that it tied things up perfectly. But this season of Lost is even worse. I'm just not feeling very engaged with it because I feel like the writers have written themselves into a box and now they're just dragging their heels because it's too soon to give anything up and it's too late to change things.

Date: 2005-10-13 06:13 pm (UTC)3. I think the writers on Lost had a lot more fun last season because they could just keep randomly tossing shit out and pretending that it was relevant, but now that they have to actually answer for their actions, and they're lost. Pun not intended.

Date: 2005-10-13 07:24 pm (UTC)Given all this, what worked for me was watching the episodes in order from the very beginning. I still don't think the show itself is that fabulous but I fell in love with a couple of the main characters and they're what keeps me watching. And of course familiarity with SGA has given me access to the wealth of truly incredible fic and discussion that has come out of SGA fandom. This is definitely the biggest fandom I've been a part of since X-Files and there is so much to see and do here that for me it offsets the less-than-fabulousness that is sometimes the actual show.

Date: 2005-10-13 07:36 pm (UTC)On a similar note, I don't mind if people pimp shows -- hey, that's how I find new things -- but if it doesn't hold my interest after the first few eps, later for that. I am a picky whore. It's fandom that's making me check out TV shows; I'd be happy with just watching movies, damn it.
Though I still have BSG to watch so I must start on that soon.

Date: 2005-10-13 07:46 pm (UTC)*I cannot recommend BSG enough, it's stunningly smart and engaging television. Plus, the men. Good lord.

Date: 2005-10-13 08:10 pm (UTC)But the things that seem to get the most fandom attention seem to be the ones that are subtexty and pretty good but not necessarily Great Television/Literature. Stuff good enough to inspire lots of obsession and analysis while leaving you with a desire for more than you know you'll get from canon.
I have no desire to seek out BSG fanfic because the show satisfies me nearly completely. (Not that it doesn't still boggle me that everyone isn't /watching/ it. OMG.) SGA... I wouldn't have started watching if it weren't for the slash (well, and having gotten into SG-1). Even then it took a few eps to get me loving on the show for more than the snark and slashiness.

Date: 2005-10-17 08:46 pm (UTC)As for BSG fiction, I'd like to see a greater spectrum of it than just the canon couples, but well, can't have everything.

Date: 2005-10-13 08:48 pm (UTC)I do love Firefly (I watch Atlantis, but am not at all involved in fandomish activities for it. Mainly, I watch it because it's on the same night I'm watching SG-1 and BSG anything, plus my roommate is hugely into it). Firefly gets me the way all of Joss' stuff gets me, through the characters and the character interactions.
In my head, I do go around comparing BSG to Joss' stuff because I think that it also has very realistic characterization and character growth. But the vibes of the shows are different and they are dealing with different aspects of humanity. And Joss is a very distinctive writer and his brand of writing is something that definitely doesn't work for everyone (case in point, my brother).

And man, something needs to get shaken up on Lost *badly* or they're just going to go in circles here. *sighs*

Date: 2005-10-17 08:58 pm (UTC)[insert much squeeing here] Another WNTW afficionado! As for preferences, you know I've been watching Trinny and Susannah from day one, I didn't even *know* there was an American version until this year, and then I had a surplus of fashion goodness. I do think that T&S can be much more brutal, but they do always do their best, sometimes I don't quite know why Clinton and Stacey let their subjects leave dressing the way they do. In their defense, I only really thought that once, but still. Once is enough! Watching too many episodes will may you throw out your entire wardrobe, much like Sex and the City.
