Where I get my bitch on.

Some people get their freak on, today, I get my bitch on.

1. Stargate Atlantis. I don't get the appeal. I've tried, repeatedly. It bored me to tears. That's not my beef though, because I have my most beloved Battlestar Galactica. What is killing me is that everyone, and I do mean pretty much every fucking person I know, is loving this show with an unholy passion, and they're turning that unholy passion into stories that I can't read! [livejournal.com profile] lyra_sena wrote fucking guitar porn! [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock has some crazy series about strippers (that is what that's about, yeah? I'm only going off the title). [livejournal.com profile] seperis is writing, like, assassin-fic or something. And here I am with nothing! That sucks. But you'll never get me to that show, so.

2. Speaking of shows I don't fancy, Firefly is another one. This isn't me telling people that they can't be all happy about Serenity, since apparently if SGA isn't your show, this one is. I mean everyone has their space show, and even [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon likes this one (or maybe that's just Nathan Fillion's bum), but just, no. I do think Gina Torres rocks, but that's probably because she's married to Laurence Fishburne.

3. And while we're on the topic of things that are boring me to tears – this season of Lost sucks "hairy dog bollocks" as I told [livejournal.com profile] estrella30. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this one is mine. Last season was fast paced, every moment resulting in fifty different consequences. 44 days were covered in 22 episodes. This season we are four episodes in and still on the same fucking day. Nothing is fucking happening on this show, people; it's boring as hell. They have 44 potential people to use, why they hell aren't they addressing them? Stop spreading your legs for everyone, JJ, and focus on the people at home. Bringing in new characters is not the way to solve your issues. He pulled this same shit on Alias, and it's so not necessary.

Uh, yeah, that's pretty much it for me today. Thanks to everyone for answering my iPod questions. I'm off to search for something of interest to read that's not SGA.

ETA: I should point out that there are shows that I do love: Kichen Confidential, Grey's Anatomy, Nip/Tuck, Made and What Not to Wear. Also, obviously Entourage and Battlestar Galactica, but they're on hiatus right now.

I've spent time *attempting* to watch episodes of both series and neither one held my interest whatsoever. They just seem so dry to me that I don't think watching it from the beginning would help; I tend to be the sort that either likes something or doesn't. I tend to be pretty decisive that way.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved Lost last season; it was smart and funny and so different from anything else. It was *engaging*. I knew JJ Abrams could write quality crack from Alias, and I thought okay, we can do this. So far this season I've been reminded of why I stopped watching Alias in the first place. Bringing in new characters is not the way to solve your storyline issues. Wrap things up, start new threads.

*I cannot recommend BSG enough, it's stunningly smart and engaging television. Plus, the men. Good lord.

I kind of boggle that BSG hasn't become the Big Thing, because it's the best thing on television right now, and almost my favorite sci-fi show ever.

But the things that seem to get the most fandom attention seem to be the ones that are subtexty and pretty good but not necessarily Great Television/Literature. Stuff good enough to inspire lots of obsession and analysis while leaving you with a desire for more than you know you'll get from canon.

I have no desire to seek out BSG fanfic because the show satisfies me nearly completely. (Not that it doesn't still boggle me that everyone isn't /watching/ it. OMG.) SGA... I wouldn't have started watching if it weren't for the slash (well, and having gotten into SG-1). Even then it took a few eps to get me loving on the show for more than the snark and slashiness.

For the record, Rodney McKay amuses me to no end as a character, but for the most part, I do not find him attractive.

Sheppard, on the other hand, has just about everything that attracts me to a man, and has the added of bonus of not (really) being a drug addict!

Just so, uh, we're all clear here.

also, that icon is priceless

[identity profile] plumtastic.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
and has the added of bonus of not (really) being a drug addict!

*dies*

Dude, it's like the SK Theorem for Guys! And I only mock because I've got my own.

Okay, so Rodney's amusing qualities make the overall attractibility factor go up. At least for me, but then again, oy, there's a long story.

Sheppard is just the end all be all full stop. If you go in for the cheaper model, there's always Lorne. Or Zelenka.

I haven't seen Lost, but I'm not one for straight-up drama or magical drama (don't know which Lost is, but it's definitely one of them). I like having the fantasy/sci-fi buffer at all times these days.

I do love Firefly (I watch Atlantis, but am not at all involved in fandomish activities for it. Mainly, I watch it because it's on the same night I'm watching SG-1 and BSG anything, plus my roommate is hugely into it). Firefly gets me the way all of Joss' stuff gets me, through the characters and the character interactions.

In my head, I do go around comparing BSG to Joss' stuff because I think that it also has very realistic characterization and character growth. But the vibes of the shows are different and they are dealing with different aspects of humanity. And Joss is a very distinctive writer and his brand of writing is something that definitely doesn't work for everyone (case in point, my brother).

*pats you muchly* I absolutely understand where you're coming from on number one--the part where everyone's writing it and you feel on the outside looking in. I was so, so ticked off with SGA for a better part of the late spring/early summer (and wrote about it in my SV longevity post), and...well, I'm glad I was able to get over my issues with things because otherwise, I'd be feeling pretty damn isolated right about now. So--many hugs, at least, because the feeling was not a happy one at all for me.

Can I ask what episodes you watched? I'm curious. :)

And man, something needs to get shaken up on Lost *badly* or they're just going to go in circles here. *sighs*

[identity profile] veredus.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you can console yourself with the knowledge that you are a Rebel! Nonconformist! A slasher who slashes to the beats of her own drums!

Go forth an revel in your rejection of peer pressure, you role model, you.

:)

*returns to reading SGA and Firefly slash*

What Not To Wear! Are you more of Suzannah and Trinny person or Stacy and Clinton? I love both pairs equally though the BBC pair tend to personalize more - saying "my arms are crap, yours are so much better!" and the like.

Though with my budget, watching too many episodes makes me look at what I can afford to replace in my wardrobe and despair.

[identity profile] mooncharm.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
apparently if SGA isn't your show, this one is.

So true. Cos SGA makes me want to yak but Firefly is lurve. ;) Nip/Tuck could so become my crack though if only I could manage to catch it when it's on. *woe*

[identity profile] romanticalgirl.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Guh. Of course, my brain is still stuck on an image of him in tux pants with the tie undone and the shirt unbuttoned and maybe untucked and the jacket draped across the chair or something and he's walking purposefully toward a bed....

*melts*

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you seen Layer Cake? Of course you have, just say yes, so there's this scene where he's having a drink because he's having a bad day, because well, Layer Cake is just one bad day, and his arms, it's like, can I just *lick* you? Please? And then there's the brown and white suit, Jesus Christ in the cornfields. I think I whimpered the first time I saw him in it.

[identity profile] rozza.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I don't care for SG1 and SGA at all either. I think it's the type of show that won't click with you if you don't watch from the beginning, or thereabouts. I also have never been tempted to watch Firefly. I think it looks boring. And thus I don't want to see the movie either which, from what I've heard, is not so much a "movie movie" but a season's worth of episodes shoved into two hours. I loved Buffy but I learned a long time ago that just because I love a certain artist does not mean I am required to absolutely adore everything he or she puts out.

Just because I am partake in several fandoms does not mean I am obligated to watch everything that is out there that is remotely fannish. However, because of you I did start watching Entourage last season and loved it. I need to get the first season on DVD.

[identity profile] ex-niciasus652.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking last night that Lost, lost something between the seasons. Because I am not that thrilled. I won't jump ship just yet, though.

I'm re-watching BSG 1st season, picking up things missed before. Love BSG!

I basically hate TV nowadays. My Space Show of choice is Babylon 5, and well. They're just not churning out the eps these days, are they? :/

I like the two episodes I've seen of Firefly on DVD, and I like Queer as Folk (also seen on DVD/download). But that's about it, if you don't count old reruns and Jeopardy.

House is only good for the House himself. Everyone else is just, like, feh. If Hugh Laurie were on Grey's Anatomy though, my head would explode.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-10-17 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep thinking that BSG should be, like, the biggest fandom around these days, but it's just not happening. I'd heard that they had a fandom exploding wank at some point between S1 and S2 though, so maybe there're no survivors from that.

As for BSG fiction, I'd like to see a greater spectrum of it than just the canon couples, but well, can't have everything.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-10-17 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Lost isn't magical or straight-up, it's actually drama with a sci-fi bend to it, and if they actually *explored* the flipping sci-fi angle, maybe I'd be happier. As for the BSG v Firefly thing, I liked Joss, but I was never a Joss fan as much as I was a fan of his material, so when the material started to degenerate, I said, "Joss, feh." To this day I'm rather apathetic to him, so for me there's just no comparison between Firefly and BSG at all.
