Giving musical thanks.

So, [livejournal.com profile] nifra_idril was talking about her shame over her Hall & Oates love and I said to her, "There is no shame in the Hall & Oates love! I love Hall & Oates", which I totally do. And then I thought about it and planned to make a post of songs that I totally have no shame over, but I realised since I felt no shame over them that that was boring. How can you have shame over 'My Prerogative'?! So, instead, this music post is brought to you by the fine people at Feel Good Inc.*

Ryan Adams 'Rosalie Come and Go' -- From the limited release second CD off of the Gold LP, this song just makes me smile and shake my hips. Generally at the same time.

Doves 'There Goes the Fear' – I wrote an X2 story to this song in the days before YSI, but now that I have YSI, you too can bask in the wonder that is Jimi's voice. This is just a gorgeous song that I cannot recommend highly enough.

Earlimart 'We Drink on the Job' -- I had never heard of Earlimart until the most beloved [livejournal.com profile] kattiya dragged me to see them, and we spent the entire gig convinced that they were a Ravenclaw band and the opening band were a Gryffindor band (we might've had a few drinks before hand). Our entire response, eventually, was, where the hell is the Slytherin band? Which led me to write this little story, Tonight, I'm a Rock and Roll Star

Hall & Oates 'She's Gone' -- Do not pretend not to love the Hall & Oates. Everyone loves the Hall & Oates!!

Charlie Mars 'Simple Things' -- In our previous lifetime, Kassie used to send me lots of CDs just because she could, and sometimes I really loved them (see Ray LaMontagne) and sometimes, well, not so much so. But everyone has a saving grace somewhere on their albums, hopefully, and this happens to be Charlie Mars'.

Urge Overkill ' Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon' -- Yet another fantastic little ditty from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack that'll have you tossing your hair and swinging your hips, but let's just leave the overdose part on the celluloid, kay?

Sarah Vaughn 'Whatever Lola Wants' -- If ever there was a song to seduce someone too, yeah, this would be it. Many many moons ago, Levi used it in a advert where a young lady threw paint on her lovers, who were clad only in jeans, and then used their jeans as her art instillation pieces. It was hot. And very subversive – I was shocked it was by Levi, really.

War 'Low Rider' -- Oh my gods, how I love this song. 'All my friends know the Low Rider...' 70s pimp R&B at it's best. Dude, it's just so fucking catchy.

White Town 'Your Woman' -- Anyone who says they didn't like this song the first time around is a liar. It's too catchy to deny. Plus, hello, how can you not give points to a song that says 'So much for all your highbrow Marxist ways'?!

So, you know, come take, enjoy. Consider it a gift, or a thank you for being such fabulous readers and friends.

*Don't let Murdoch's hysterical laugh put you off scare the shit out of you.

Nooooo! You now have me dancing in my seat to 'My Prerogative'!

*is grumpy, yet dancey at the same time*

I DL'd a couple. Thanks!

I am even as we speak listening to the Hall & Oates again, though I have to say my roomate just popped her head into my room and said, "Jesus, you'd think you were going through a break up or something." Some people just sublimate the love, Z, and it's so sad to see. *considers vaguely writing a roomate/She's Gone story and slipping it under her door as retribution*

Your Woman is a damned fine track.

[identity profile] babyofthegroup.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Could you have picked a different Hall and Oates song? That one was sung by creepy Scott Savol on the last season of American Idol, and now I can't hear it without shuddering.

Er. Don't mind me, I'm in a weird mood today.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't watch that show, so it's all fine and unsullied for me!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I'm saying!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Embrace the Bobby Brown before Whitney got hold of him!

You are very welcome!

She's just in denial; it's hard for some people. Not us though. *twirls Nif*

My favorite Hall and Oates song is "Man Eater", which my mother apparently used to sing in the car when I was a baby. I wonder what that says about my family...

Also, can I just say that a) OMGAPOLLO<3333333333!! and b) that big shiny silver collar they put on before they put on their helmets? Dude, big shiny kink over here. I don't know why, but it's just hot!hot!hot! to me.

I'm actually fanning myself.

Oh, I am so disturbed.

Dude. A while back, I actually spent the last bit of my last iTunes gift certificate purchasing "She's Gone," so there is no shame there. I believe my sister actually had that album on vinyl way back in the early '80s.

Wheee for Hall & Oates! I was ridiculously excited when some of the American Idol contestants sang H&O songs last season.

I wish you would learn how to keep your files mp3 instead of wma.

but I still love ya.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's like, work. You must have me mistaken for someone else. Also, some are mp3. Just not all of them.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. Apparently you and [livejournal.com profile] babyofthegroup have a differing opinion on that, but it's all good. Love the Hall & Oates!

I don't even know why they wear the collars other than to look insanely hot. I mean really the collars are just the icing on the "I am so bad ass and fuck people's shit up hardcore and don't you want to lick me?" cake that is Apollo and Starbuck flying. I mean, but really.

Also, I literally used that icon just because I was like, "Z loves Apollo, I love Z, I love Apollo, it's time for us all to have a little Apollo!"

[identity profile] nifra-idril.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
She's Gone is definitely the song of the week. No shame. Only love.

Have I told you today that I love you, because really, like if you were here, I would be hugging you hard enough to cut off your air supply.

LOVE! LOVE! *BIG LOVE* Except you know, I just mentioned to SK that you use this because you llove me, but my hormones, they just see that collar and I have like hot flashes.

Thanks for low rider!

Aaah, thanks for the nostalgia trip. My mom is passionately in love with Hall & Oates and my name is Sarah, so "Sara Smile" was on constant rotation during my childhood. "She's Gone" is their only other song I remember loving and singing along to all the time. :)

[identity profile] literaryll.livejournal.com 2005-11-22 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
White Town AHAHAHAHA! I forgot about that song :D

I've always meant to get girl, you'll be a woman soon.
