Dear iTunes,

If you tell me the new Zero 7 single is available to buy, and then inform me that I can only buy it through the UK iTunes, and then do not permit me to buy it because I do not have a UK IP, nor am I currently on UK soil, this is going to piss me off.

Way to lose a sale, fucktards.

No love,
Me

p.s. Don't even get me started on the whole, Acoustic Kubb for sale, but not for me thing, bitches.

p.p.s In conclusion: Suck my proverbial cock

Someone wanted me to write George/Ari and -- I don't think I can. They don't have that sort of relationship. They're clearly crazy about each other to the point of violence, but like sex? I can't see it. Really. Despite Ari's preoccupation with George's dick and Matt Damon, yeah, he's pretty straight. George did kiss Ari once just to see what would happen, and Ari was so shocked he lost the ability to talk for a whole hour.

I'd reserved this space to write a recommendation of [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic's Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose, but upon further thought I realise that that's just not going to do it justice. If you were going to read it as a SGA fan then by now you've already ready it, because it's been more recommended than Viagra. If you weren't going to read it because you're not an SGA fan then nothing I can say will change your mind.

However, I will repeat what I said to [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma after I finished my initial reading and that's this,"...it's just so beautiful and so true, I'm kind of shocked, and it makes my heart hurt. I've always wanted to write something that hit people so deeply, and I know it won't happen, but this is just gorgeous and I just, you know, wow. AHHHH! Feeling things really deeply always tends to leave me feeling like I just had layer of skin scraped off."

You should know that, originally, I wasn't going to read it either. I mean it's everywhere, nothing could possibly warrant that much attention. I wasn't crazy about the central character, and although I think the fandom writers are stupendously talented, I don't really like the programme either. In short, I had every frakking reason to pass it by, but I'm so thankful that I caved.

So, you know, if you've been waffling, give it a try. If you're just looking for something stunning and real to read, then try it for that reason too. It's not a fan story or a fandom story, it's not some pretentious philosophical idea wrapped up in sheep's clothing, it's just a story about life and getting through it.

IMO, that's what makes it so beautiful.

Did you and I randomly write letters to iTunes in the same hour or are you trying to be cool like me? ;)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to be cool like you.

[identity profile] amberlynne.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
On the highway of cool, I am stuck at the toll booth, girl. That's not exactly the sort of thing you want to emmulate. ;)

You're absolutely right about that fic, it's fabulous, but I think you're wrong in your assessment of your own writing. I've had the same visceral reaction when reading parts of the Thousandth Man verse, and I'm not just saying that to kiss your ass. Though I'm told it's a very fine ass indeed. <3

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw. *blushes* Thanks.

[identity profile] elzed.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd offer to get it for you but I've yet to figure out how to crack sharing iTunes-bought tunes with other people. Because so far, I have failed.

*scurries off to check song out*

[identity profile] amberlynne.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
The only way I've been able to do it is to burn the songs to a disc and then re-rip them back as mp3. It's a pain in the ass but it works. :)

I've actually used a program called JHymn, with some level of success.

fdhsjfd I have been forcing non-SGA people to read that fic for four days. They all love it. It makes them wish they watched SGA. One of them cried.

I recommended it to the person who got me into SGA in the first place. She keeps not having read it yet and it is eating me alive.

♥ that fic SO MUCH.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I just finished editing my post, because I wanted to explain to the non-SGA readers that I hadn't planned to read it originally. There was just too much hype, too many recommendations, nothing could possibly be that good -- only I was wrong. Very wrong.

[identity profile] desdema.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hrmm. I'd decided not to pimp the story to non-SGA people because I felt like there was a lot of subtle stuff in there that referenced the show and I wasn't sure it would have the same emotional impact for anyone without some knowledge of the show. I'm particularly thinking of the upper level courses Rodney taught and the vague references to Sheppard. Those were some of the things that hit me the hardest when I read the story and I can't see how the significance of those things can translate for someone who doesn't know the show. I can definitely see how non-SGA folks could appreciate it as a fabulous piece of writing, but I think they'd be missing out on a lot of nuances.

Apparently, just going by your non-SGA friends' reactions, my assessment may be way off. Did you give anyone any background info relevant to the story when you passed the link along? And did anyone want certain blanks filled in after they'd read the story?

I thought I was the only person who has not read that fic yet, and then I saw Tarz's comment, and thank GOD I'm not alone. HEH. But it took me WEEKS to finally get around to reading Ladies Night at the Boom Boom Room. I am behind liek whoa.

And re: iTunes, I had the same issue with Josh Schwartz's playlist for three days. It was a link, though, from the OC music playlist, and it said "Click here to download Josh Schwartz's Celebrity Playlist, now available." And I would click and it would say, "This is not yet available in the US." But after a few days it started working, I just kept checking back and checking back. So it's probably *almost* available, they're just ahead of the game. And by "ahead of the game," I mean "being an annoying tease."

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I wasn't going to read it, because seriously, how could a story warrant 15 pages of comments? Well, that would be how. I mean, wow.

[identity profile] ethrosdemon.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

"I was made to love her" just came on the radio as I opened this to badger you about George/JAKE! It's a sign from the Lords of Kobol. DO IT!

I don't think my opinion on the George/Ari needs to be publicly stated for the sake of the peoples.

I LOVE MY BABY, LOVE MY BABY! Can't you see Jake dancing like a dorkwad while cooking supper and George leaning against the wall with his scotch glass held by the rim by his leg?

Viggo wants to set them up

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't to write Jake anymore, he's boring now. And not hot. Plus, hello, Toothy Tile is so passe now it's all about Crisp Lisp or something.

...and iTunes pulls 'Hey Mama.' Because I NEED to be more emotional right now.

I'm back with proof that George's Oscar date -- one Bryan Lourd -- did indeed leave Carrie Fisher for a man. Although I did say they'd been married, and they weren't -- he's just her babydaddy. (The link is to an interview for Dennis Hensley's website, and have you read Misadventures in the (213)? Because you kind of need to.)

Also, this?

It's not a fan story or a fandom story, it's not some pretentious philosophical idea wrapped up in sheep's clothing, it's just a story about life and getting through it.

Spot-on. I tend to avoid the darker stories in this fandom, because I really don't like to be sad, even when the reason is so very well-written. Also, I don't have time to get all emo about fic these days; I need to stay shallow for my own well-being.

I had a point, I think. Ah, yes, here it is: That story was incredible.

I imagine that was duly filed away for reference. Ari doesn't seem like someone that there are a whole lot of ways to shut up. :D

The itunes thing is fucked up. That sort of thing happened to me once. I tried to buy a song from real player and they charged me $.99 for it, but I couldn't play it anywhere but in the real player player. Some companies are f-ed up.
