It's come to my attention today that fandom is such a fantastic teaching tool, that it has single handedly ~~decreased~~ increased my IQ by at least 20 points. I mean there are all kinds of words that I've learned here that I'd never have learned anywhere else. Words like: 'craptastic' and 'woobie' and 'pron' and and 'dicksmack' and 'syphilitic whoremonger' are among my favorites, which then begs the question, what words has fandom taught you that you didn't know before?

Tell me. And while you're at it, also tell me how to pronounce your user name, because I saw someone else doing this somewhere and I was learning all kinds of pronunciations that I never would've come up with. For example

hackthis is pronounced Ari. Are-ree. No, really, it's pronounced 'hack- this', not 'hackth-is'.

MPreg (because that is not something that would have ever occurred to me to imagine). Shipper wars, Kerfuffle, PWP.

Well this account is rather straightforward in pronunciation *grin*, but for my original account, (before I got so into fandom that I had to make a new account to avoid alienating my pre-existing LJ friends)

astarte99: I pronounce my name Ass-tart-tay. TBQ insisted some years ago that is was just Ass-Tart, which may be more accurate, so at fandom meet-ups it evitably becomes the second. *grins*

Well, I'd heard of it, as in the act, but I didn't know that was the word for it. For the longest time, after I learnt what the word meant, I didn't have a clue how it was pronounced until I think it was mentioned on a TV show recently, lol.

I used fucktards to my boss recently to explain what I thought of the people who broke into my car. She was very pleased and has now adopted it as her own :)
