Neville, how could you do me like this?

In what may be one of the most traumatic episodes EVER, last week I plugged in my iPod to charge the battery and it blue screened my computer. And then, when the computer rebooted and iTunes came back up, my pod started syncing up, only instead of syncing up, it synced down and proceeded to wipe itself clean. Yeah, you read that right. Two years, five computers and 5000 songs worth of work are all gone. And of course the Apple Geniuses were of no help, they basically said, "Yeah, your music is gone, no we don't know why, but your pod seems fine."

And it's not just the music -- although that REALLY smarts -- if you have a pod you know the time you take with it. You put in artwork and you make sure things are spelled right and capitalized and you create your own genres and playlists and you hug it and love it and call it George!

*sigh*

Like I said, there aren't any words, but if you've gotten music from me in oh, like EVER, or you have anything you think I'd like, I am asking you to help me out and put it in this post. Pop, rock, classical, old skool hip-hop, new wave, old wave, old classics, country, motown, jazz, blues, drinking songs, live songs, 420 songs, grunge, rap, comedy, britrock, britpop, kids songs, christmas songs, working out songs, 80s, 90s, 70s, covers, disco, you name it and chances are I would like it. I thank you in advance. I have to go take a Xanax.

ETA: To make life easier for you giving souls, you should know that I have 300+ CDs waiting to be loaded on my Pod, if I decide it's still trustworthy, so you don't have to give me whole albums of stuff, maybe just a zip with some of your favorite songs, that would totally be awesome too.

you know, i don't think i'd trust your ipod at this point. what if it did it again?

Once you have some stuff back, BACK IT UP. In a normal folder. Somewhere else.

I have a nifty app to list the contents of any folder with subfolders. I'll run it on my music folder, then send it to you - you can ask me for anything you like on it. Email please?

Shall upload Prince today. Anything else from the 80s you're dying for? There's a possibility I might have it.

i figure someone else can do you better in terms of complete ryan adams albums, but i zipped up all the jeff buckley i have, including grace, half of sketches for my sweetheart, and a bunch of covers/rarities.

[zip 1 (http://www.sendspace.com/file/asdngh)]
[zip 2 (http://www.sendspace.com/file/r3kf21)]

hope that helps a tiny bit. i'll watch what other people come up with and see where i can fill in the gaps.

PS... er, perhaps lock this post?

Here's the Ray LaMontagne you gave me:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/2fx4qp

And he's the Audiobook of Wigfield because it's funny and narrated by Stephen Colbert: http://www.sendspace.com/file/mpijow

Let me know if these don't work because I tend to fail at uploading shit.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. That's a boat load of suck right there. I will look when I get home to see if I have anything you might want. All my NSync, of course. But I am sure there is more. ;)

[identity profile] chinawolf.livejournal.com 2007-09-10 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That's absolutely awful. I will try my best to upload you some stuff tomorrow. <3

[identity profile] circe-tigana.livejournal.com 2007-09-10 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Email me if there's anything you're specifically looking for. The Blythe/Circe harddrive has loads and loads of stuff.

[identity profile] juno.livejournal.com 2007-09-10 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow - I've heard of people having problems where the ipod contents are lost but having it delete the stuff on the HD? That really sucks.

I have stuff back up on CD and I just bought an external HD for this reason.

I just uploaded a mix the other day. I'm not sure how much is what you're into, but you're welcome to it. See Right Through Me (http://www.sendspace.com/file/4wnxn5). It's got the track listing saved in there as well. And if you want any of those full albums, just ask.

[identity profile] plumtastic.livejournal.com 2007-09-10 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Consider this the first (http://www.sendspace.com/file/evm2z0) of a least a few files. Random and random can be, as per usual.

[identity profile] daraq.livejournal.com 2007-09-10 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, that is so sad. Here's a little Junior Senior to add to your new playlist.

Are you still at the same address? Expect a music care package in the next few weeks.

That. Really. Sucks.

[identity profile] heidi8.livejournal.com 2007-09-10 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I am sure others are already 'returning' the lovely Heroes mixes you did earlier this year but let me know if you need them.
I am also happy to provide anything from the Disney Greatest Hits, anything Crowded House/Split Enz, a cappella college groups, Les Miz and various other broadway cast recordings and Brit Pop of the 80s and Early 90s. Also Duran Duran.

Let me know if you want any of that?

[identity profile] obsessedmuch.livejournal.com 2007-09-10 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh honey... on top of all the rest? Seriously, that is just fucked up.

*hugs* I'm so sorry.

I have so much stuff I wouldn't know where to start! If you can remember anything I might have thrown your way that you liked let me know. I do know I uploaded the Guillemots for you recently. I shall check back to see what I have passed on before.

Good luck with the restoring!

I've got a box.net place - here (http://www.box.net/shared/ux8ze67bau#1:8444895), currently has a smattering of rap (Kanye's new album and classics), soul covers of Beatles songs, 7 Regina Spektor songs and just stuff. (Wish You Were Here is Pink Floyd, Scientist is Avril Lavigne covering Coldplay.) Maybe there's something there that would be good? (Sadly, no art, sigh.)

Singer/songwriters, indie and americana here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/94lm2i).

Not sure if there will be anything here you like, but about 500mb of songs you're free to download here. That sucks so bad! itunes ate about 700 of my songs once--not the same degree by any means but still a big blow. :(

[identity profile] brandil.livejournal.com 2007-09-10 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Sending you the twentysomething soundtrack you compiled, a ton of Placebo and some random country all to your lj address.

[identity profile] sprat.livejournal.com 2007-09-10 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, that's awful. I've had the same thing happen to me, once -- an entire hard drive ate itself -- so I can definitely sympathize.

I haven't got a lot of stuff online right now, but you're welcome to whatever I do have. I'll email you some links.

[identity profile] thepouncer.livejournal.com 2007-09-10 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I can offer a bunch of 80s stuff, Fiona Apple's entire catalogue, Garbage, punk classics (Ramones, Clash, Sex Pistols, and on and on), Joseph Arthur, Green Day, White Stripes, almost every song used in the first three seasons of The O.C. - actually, check out this tag (http://thepouncer.livejournal.com/tag/treble+and+bass) for the music mixes. Any artist who appears over a few mixes is likely one where I've got an entire album or a greatest hits collection I'd be glad to send your way.

If you'd like, I can burn DVDs with the files, and give them to SK when I see her this weekend for mailing?
