Yes, this LJ supports Barack Obama. And no, I will not stop talking about it. Don't like it, leave.

So, now people are stealing Obama signs out of front yards. Sign stealing. Sign stealing? Do you think that stealing a sign is going to stop somebody from supporting Obama? Do you think it will stop them from telling other people that they support Obama? Or that a sign is negatively or positively influencing that one indecisive git who can't seem to make a decision after TWO YEARS? Clearly if I can't decide on my own brain power, if Joanne Six Pack has a sign in her yard, I'll vote like her because we're cool and I'm so easily influenced.

But, back to the sing stealing, because I guarantee that if you take two signs, ten more will pop up. Like rabbits that way. There'll probably be stickers too next time, because now you pissed somebody off. And you know what else? When they bought that stuff that you stole, it was probably part of a donation to the Obama/Biden campaign, so really, now they they've had to buy more, on your behalf, so really *you* just donated to the campaign.

So, thanks.

And Vote Obama in 2008.

This message brought to you courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] meret and 13 days left to go volunteer at a phone bank. Be glad I didn't start talking about the robo calls. If you're guilty by being in the same room as someone, everybody should be in Gitmo. But Bush first.

In less irate news, Tony Bourdain is visiting Ireland on my telly and it's like sex for my ears!

I know there are people who don't give a shit about this campaign. I know there are people whose lives aren't going to be affected one way or the other. Only 30-odd% of Americans vote in any given election, but I've always felt that if you don't vote you have no fucking right to complain. So if 80% of the country doesn't like where we're going, where the hell are those other 50% who need to say something?

To me, this election is probably the most important one that will take place in my life time. And I think, if you don't vote at this time in this country that that is giving the finger to your country. Being a "Real American" has nothing to do with where you live or if you own a gun or if you only eat meat or if you buy Joe Six Pack a beer. If you believe in something then you should be willing to stand for it. And me? Well, I care that we have no money. I care that we are in a depression when the media keep talking about how we "might" be in a recession. I care that that there will be no social programs for my parents or my children. I care that US schools are the fucking WORST of all the first-world countries and that we're in Vietnam mark II and that McCain was fucking 894 out 899 students in his class and crashed four planes and not once was disciplined because that would be tolerated of anybody else. I care that he has a bad temper and will send MORE of our young people off to die. I care that he wants to overturn Roe v Wade, and that his Vice President is a fucking moron. I care that abstinence only education doesn't fucking WORK and that this guy who is more than willing to go through the younger generation like they're tissues won't even sign an improved GI Bill.

These are the things that make me pro-Obama. It's not a black thing. It's not a democrat thing. It is a desire for real change that not only makes me pro-Obama, but anti-McCain. So, if that, and living in a big city makes me a fake American, well then, fuck it, I hear your country is real nice. ;)

Have you read this article by the way (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/make_believe_maverick_the_real_john_mccain). VERY enlightening.

Ooh, thank you for the link! :) And a great big YES to everything you just said, btw.

Wonderful. You really nailed it here. I was talking to two friends the other day, both in their 50s who had never voted. I was really shocked - both have strong political views. Both are unhappy about the economy. Both are following the election and neither are voting and it is too late to register in Ohio. What the hell?

I don't think that anyone's unaffected by this election. I can't think of anyone outside of the US who doesn't want Obama to win-- or at least, isn't really, really scared about what would happen if McCain was elected. Bloody hell, Boris bloody Johnson -Conservative, upper-class, Tory as they come Mayor of London- still supports Obama over McCain because the rest of the world is (appropriately!) terrified of what would happen if McCain got in to power.

Even people that disagree on fundamental idealogical terms with Obama still want him elected because they think he can do the job and would be good for the international arena, if only by keeping America from imploding and not, you know, distablizing the rest of the world. McCain/Palin? Terrifying to think of.
