[fannish link dump]

1. Kings premieres this Sunday on NBC at 8pm. Raise your hand if you're already thinking about the slash opportunities. Biblical slash, people, Old Testament style. Now with canon gay characters! Is everybody's really going to hell this time? Hey, at least it's informative religious studies; I'll bring my rollerskates. Where are the comms?

2. NBC announced their summer schedules, and MERLIN (yes, that Merlin) has been bumped from Winter 2009 to this summer. In fact, Merlin will premiere on NBC on June 21st at 8pm. Put it in your Crackberries.

3. Last night, everybody's Favorite Jewish Boyfriend (TM) (no, the other one) Jon Stewart, took Jim Cramer from CNBC out in the street and delivered the kind of awesome verbal smackdown that will require five minutes alone in a quiet place.

4. Leave Michael Phelps the fuck alone. It was weed, not ground up baby seals, people! Jesus, the hypocrisy burns, Matt Lauer who suspiciously traded in his last wife for a younger model.

5. Just two more episodes of BSG? Really?! SADNESS!

6. GK people, is PJ's interview from The Guardian up yet? I cannot find it among the 15,000 links on the website.

6. Is it time for summer telly yet? because I have nothing to watch until then. Really. No Mad Men, Leverage, Burn Notice, Psych, Merlin (yet again), Desperate Housewives of Atlanta... Tabitha's Salon Takeover (oh, come that's hysterical). Right now I have...zero shows. (BSG is nearly gone). Sadness. I shall go watch Skins or something. Also, 2 people who love(d) Skins, I had a dream the other night where Maxxie was in bed with Tony, but Tony's an ass, so this was distressing as hell.

oh, and if you're looking for interesting things to watch... did you catch the brit tv series Survivors that finished airing like a couple months back? Basically "The Stand", but modern day and in England. I found it on the internets and liked it quite a bit. S1 has aired so far, and it had 6 episodes.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Nope, canonical gay characters. Jonathan is now Jake, who is gay.

2. I knew we were down to the wire, but just two more? SADNESS!

3. No, no Bryce, no real interest in Chuck. I've had it on the background and continue to think Zach Levi is adorable, but it's like... Muzak.

Oh gosh, I KNOW. And how Parker just JUMPS on Eliot, and he is sort of '....okay now' and Alec is all 'WHEE!' when it happens to him.

OT3, definitely.

Oh, you love me, don't you? *goes off to wallow in wrongness*

The Stand? Isn't that Stephen King? I don't do Stephen King, dog.

Oh, brilliant! Now I'm psyched.

As for Chuck. I feel like the absence of Bryce is its own character (and I don't like absence-of-Bryce, he's a douche). Every episode I have moments of "Bryce would say something here" or "Bryce would fix this" or "Bryce, it's hug times now". Like, Bryce would have so kicked that Cole character's arse for endangering Sarah and Chuck. I miss Bryce :(

[identity profile] silviakundera.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, sorry! The series isn't based off that Stephen King novel in any way - it's actually a reboot of a series that aired in England in the early 70's pre-King's novel. (It's my guess now that King was inspired by it, but I don't know).

Basically, apocra!fiction. A crazy, super fast flu virus starts killing the world's population, and only 1% of the population is immune. The series tracks a handful of these survivors in England who run into each other and join up for company/protection. I thought they did a good job on a gender, class, and people of color mix for the cast. If post-apocalypse is your thing, you might like the series. If you hate that kind of stuff, you'll probably hate the series.

The Group breakdown (via Wikipedia):
Abby Grant: Abby Grant, protagonist and moral compass, is a woman determined to find Peter, her missing son. De facto leader.
Tom Price: In prision when the virus hits, Tom Price is a toughened criminal, fearless and strong. He is able to murder without remorse.
Greg Preston: His original wish is to be self-sufficient and alone, and he's an unenthusiastic participant.
Dr. Anya Raczynski: Anya had been a doctor in a busy city hospital when the virus strikes, and watched hundreds of patients die of the virus. In an internal struggle to rationalise why she has survived, she rejects her medical profession.
Al Sadiq: The son of an immensely wealthy father, having known only fancy hotels and a workless and materialist lifestyle, Al was unprepared for life without modern technology.
Najid Hanif: Najid is a devout Muslim child who is praying at the time when the virus eradicates the remainder of the world. Shown to be a friendly and considerate boy.
Sarah Boyer: Before the virus, Sarah led a very pampered and hedonist lifestyle and she was used to getting what she wanted.

It's got Freema?! Dude, why didn't you say so. I have no use for Doctor Who, but I love Freema (that was her on the cover, yeah? And Adrian Lester?) Is it like 28 Days Later-ish?

[identity profile] silviakundera.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It's got Freema, but only in the first episode - she's not part of the core Series cast unfortunately. (as I'm pretty hot for her)

I think 28 Days Later is more bleak and horror movie-ish than this, and the group of survivors is larger. The badness in Survivors is about people - no zombies! It's a balance of hope + horribleness. People are both really gross and also awesome. Learning to live cooperatively and without society's laws, organization, and luxuries, etc. Guns and chickens! yay!

Season 2 is supposed to air sometime in 2009. (S1 was Nov - Dec '08)

[identity profile] silviakundera.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
speaking of Freema, I am actually watching her new series Law & Order: UK. This is how hot I am for this woman. It is saaaaad. (Plus, I get Lee from BSG as well. When fandoms collide!)

I love me some NBC.

Kings is already set for the TIVO. I had no clue they were going to do Merlin this summer.

And of course there is this L&O: SVU Production Blog (http://blog.nbc.com/laworder_svu/production_blog/hi_everyone_3/index.php)

Skip to question 3: "Is Benson Gay? Let us know."

I. I. I think I love them a little bit.

[identity profile] hypertwink.livejournal.com 2009-03-14 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
That's true. I miss last year and not just because of Bronnie. I miss Casey and even Perry the Douche. Anyway, I think Gabe and the blond lollipop guy has potential. I adore Colin. Finally, Branden giving off douche vibes.

I'm just a little disappointed at the spoilers I read. Darn, this should teach me about spoilers but I am Kaylee to their shiny. I hope I'm just reading too much into it.

p.s. Yes, get off Michael Phelps. And investigate the possibility of Roger Federer having a kid so that people would shut up about his failing game. Yes, I am that cynical.

Have you tried watching Dexter on Showtime? Seasons 1 and 2 are out on DVD and I've been watching them on Netflix, and the show is nuanced and well-acted and incredible.

(And whoever did the title credits has my undying worship, because maybe only Carnivale on HBO had opening credits that summed up the gist of the show as well as Dexter's does.)

OH MY GOD HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT "KINGS". YOU ARE MY SLASH HERO FOR ALERTING ME TO THIS.

*flail*

Jonathan/David= Old Testament otp! I love Skins. I am more Sid/Tony shipper, but different strokes and all that. Have you seen any of season three yet? It's kinda Effy heavy but still pretty win.

About the PJ interview:
RE:Questions passed on to Ransone. I think we are expecting his answers early next week. We would have liked to set up a live online chat but it just couldn't be fitted into the schedule

I had no idea you watched Skins. I ♥ Maxxie. Must finish S2 someday.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't watched Heroes in years. And I only ever really liked Chuck for Bryce. No Bryce, no interest. Oh, and Entourage should've been put out to pasture like three seasons back.

I have watched it four times so far. It's just... finally, somebody with a brain holding someone else accountable! It's shocking.

I want my Ray-Ray NOW!

Yeah. I think the fact that it *is* shocking is sad, but yeah. Finally!
