I love Brad's anger and frustration - not at Nate, but Nate gets to feel a brush of it - at being so helpless when it comes to Nate. All his wanting and needing and not being able to be with him and so everything just builds up. And sometimes when Nate laughs and treats it like a joke (not that he thinks it's a joke, but he doesn't realize what's gotten to Brad right at the core or he doesn't want to see it, because his own need is too much to deal with most of the time) Brad has to turn Nate over, pin him down and remind Nate (and himself) that Nate is his just as much as he is Nate's.

YES. THIS. There's nothing wrong with posession issues, you just have to recognize them so that you don't have a moment, zip strip somebody to the bed and then come back an hour later and have to apologize, because, "I know, I don't know what came over me. Yes, I totally trust you to go to the store/out with your friends/off to war. I was just having a moment. I'm sorry, will a blow job make it better. No? Okay, how about two."

The mutual thing is really important for Brad too, because he wanted Nate for so long and it took Nate *so* long to see it that he sometimes doesn't quite believe it's real, especially when he's a zillion miles away and there's life between them and all those unexpected things it brings.

And then they're together again and it just *works*, and Brad sometimes has to remember to breathe.

I don't think it even sinks in in the first few weeks. Brad's at basic training, and Nate's starting college. And then it's like October and Nate wants to tell Brad about the people in his class or something he did today. He can't call or visit. Email doesn't even really launch for colleges like that until 1996-97. Same with hotmail and stuff like that b/c I was in school when it first came out. So, that's out. And Brad's in training, loving it, happy to really feel like he's *doing* something for a change, and he wants to tell Nate all of this... but he can't. Can't touch him, can't see him, can't hear his voice. And there's this horrible ache, so he pushes harder, faster, this is where his nickname gets even more credibility.

Nate comes home for Thanksgiving and Brad doesn't even know if he's going to get leave so he doesn't say anything. He just shows up on the Ficks doorstep, and they're all at dinner. Nate's mom opens the door and screams and the whole house comes running. Its' like utter chaos for five minutes, everybody hugging Brad, checking him over and Nate's just standing on the steps staring, because of the buzz cut and the tan and the muscles, and it's complete and utter overload. And then Mrs. Fick, is like, "Nate, are you going to say hi to Brad?" And Nate's brain just completely breaks. And he just feels so awkward. Part of him wants to jump on Brad and the part is like run and hide, emotional overload in five.... four... three.

And then it doesn't really matter, because Brad's on the stairs, and they're nose to nose and Brad kisses him in front of his entire family, and Nate's like "....!!!!!"

Do you know I have never rewatched a serialized TV show before? This is why boxed sets are pointless for me, b/c generally once I see something once I'm over it. Miniseries I like to buy, and the UK TV shows (Life on Mars, Skins), but for the most part... nothing has never done it to me like Southland.
