a rose called a weed

Au Natural

She doesn’t look for beauty in a bottle or a jar because she knows it can’t be found there.

Beauty lies in perfect spells and runes that withstand the test of time, and looks die. Beauty is everywhere but where people try to force it, and anyone can be pretty. If Hermione wanted to she knows she could have them all falling at her feet.

She doesn’t want them all. She has the one she wants.

Glamour spells and love potions are easy if you’re not interested in the results, and she already has him. He wouldn’t notice if she dyed her hair and changed her eye colour, but he loves her all the same. She knows he does. Besides, it’s never been about her looks because her brain is what will save the day. She’s proved it time and again.

Being beautiful never saved anyone from a Manticore or a horrible purple fiery death.

She doesn’t care too much about her bushy eyebrows and unkept hair anymore either. She knows there was never anything wrong with her teeth but she grants herself that one vanity just because. That’s for her, not him because she is still a girl after all, and occasionally she likes people to notice that. Sometimes. Often she’s quick and efficient: soap to get off the dirt from Herbology and moisturizer so that she doesn’t get burned whilst watching Ron and Harry at Quidditch practice. She’s not like the other girls. She doesn’t feel the need to spend hours on end playing with creams and ointments and powders. Ginny once tried to make her up, and Hermione walked out after five minutes with only one eye done.

Too much time for too little return. She doesn’t need to be someone else.

He didn’t fall in love with some one else; he fell in love with her. There’s plenty of beauty there between them, she doesn’t have to disguise that.

I was working, babe. I wrote this in 13 minutes after some chick spent like 30 miuntes preening in the bathroom while I was reading in a stall.

Yes *sniff* all those reasons are why Draco loves Hermione.

That, and because she's practically Harry without the penis.

Hehehehe.

Lovely!

this sort of made me shiver with pleasure. it's so strangely happy and inspirational. celebratory, almost. non-angsty, which is a Good Thing.

if i'm still moping over dv10 tomorrow, i think i'm going to ask someone to slap me ^^;

~reena, who wishes she was more helpful. *wibble*

isn't it happy though? i find it very off-putting. but in a good way.

Aww. It's so lovely. Perfect characterization, too.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2002-10-15 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you liked it, babe.

i, i really enjoyed this.

mainly because it smacks of truth. of the way love should be, of the way *we* should be.

i've always liked hermione, her strength and her brain and her no-nonsense attitude and i would really love to see more about her from you.

mainly because it smacks of truth. of the way love should be, of the way *we* should be.

the key word here, of course, being 'should.' for me this piece is highly idealistic, almost to the point of mockery, but i'm glad i wrote it and i'm glad you like it.
