plz to halp?

So, I think I fucked up the other day. I was cleaning old programs off my computer, like you do, and there was this scroll program that I couldn't identify... so I uninstalled.

Only problem is now my computer's gone apeshit and all the scrolling is terrible as is the cursor and they just jump around on every page regardless of if I'm in IE or Mozilla. Uh, anybody know what I did and can tell me what I have to reinstall to make it stop?

I would be most grateful for the help.

Thanks.

(I have Windows XP on a laptop, just so you know this isn't a Mac issue).

ALL IS FIXED. I THINK. I'VE BEEN OUT DRINKING AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FIGURE OUT UNTIL TOMORROW.

Any help you could give me would be most appreciated. I downloaded the program S77 suggested, which worked perfectly... except for the part where it wants $30 to fix my driver issues. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook.

I'm on it--when I go to HP's site, I have three options for the V2000--V2000, V2000T or V2000Z. Can you confirm it's just the 2000, or is it one of the others?

ETA: Also, does the name Synaptic ring any bells, for the thing you uninstalled? That's the name for the touchpad driver, which does have a scroll function built into its name.

Me again. It looks like the touchpad driver is the same across the three V2000 models, so: Here's the file, up on my DropBox page: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1933528/sp32647.exe

I totally trust me, but if I were you, I'd virus scan that just to be safe. :D Sort of like always wearing a condom. Anyway, if you run that, it will come up and say it's the Synaptics Touchpad driver. The directions just say to run it, and do what it tells you on-screen, so it should be pretty straightforward.

Or you can just get it from HP's page for your laptop, which is here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=500508&lang=en

I grabbed the latest Synaptics driver from that page. It wouldn't hurt to save that link--on the other hand, HP/Compaq redoes their site organization not infrequently, so who knows how long that search link will be good.

S77 walked me through something which I think just worked, but I'm supposed to go out drinking right now so I can't really test it, but thank you so very very much for your help with this. If what she had me do (reinstall the mouse via the control panel) doesn't work I will definitely do this. And again, THANK YOU.

:D Drinking is always better than futzing around with computers, seriously. And any solution that works is all good, so you are welcome!!
