I have heard the promised land

Yesterday I was gifted with the most holiest of holies: Benedict Cumberbatch reading Kafka's Metamorphosis. I love Kafka. Yes, I really am one of those people. I think you lot know my feelings about Benedict. With these two things combined I walked around town with the most insipid smile ever. And I don't care. But this is all I have. I need more. I must have more. I am begging you. If you have more Benedict audiobooks, whatever the hell they are: novels, non-fiction, script readings, children's books, the shopping list. Please. Please share them with me. I am in need. I am in so much need. (And probably other people are in need too, so think about all the good will you'd be putting out in the world!)

er, I feel weird for commenting on this post because you don't know me, but I was popping through here to find one of your fanfics and yeah.

The [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc comm maintains master posts of Sherlock related works, including Cumberbatch, specifically here (http://community.livejournal.com/sherlockbbc/586527.html?thread=10972447#t10972447) and here (http://community.livejournal.com/sherlockbbc/586527.html?thread=12127007#t12127007). Probably most relevant to you is Cabin Pressure?

ETA: also, BC reading Little Red Hen (http://www.ladybirdreadityourself.com/favourite-fairytales). Not sure if it's in the above links or not.

Fabulous! Thank you :)

[identity profile] cobweb-diamond.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you feel about cumberbatch reading the memoirs of casanova?

yup (http://www.mediafire.com/?n783tm4iotp3wbt).

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel something (but I don't think you want to hear the specific filthy details). Thank you!

[identity profile] cobweb-diamond.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've not listened to it yet myself but I am FAIRLY CERTAIN IT IS AMAZING.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'd never equated Kafka with sex until today, so if this is half as scintillating as that (which I expect it will be) -- I apologize in advance to the people who come across me for the next several days.

[identity profile] vertrauen.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, god. THE CASANOVA MEMOIRS. Just BE AWARE that there are two versions: the abridged version of the audiobook from BBC4 (totals about an hour in length), and then the full 5-hour audiobook. If that d/l isn't the longer one, let me know and I'll get an upload for you ASAP, because it is what you expect it will be.

AND MORE.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I WANT FIVE HOURS OF SEX. Um, reading. I mean reading. NO. I mean sex. I want five hours of aural sex. I am checking now.

ETA! It is! It is! It is five hours and two minutes of aural stimulation. Um, yeah. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] cobweb_diamond -- did I not say that yet?

Huzzah! I wouldn't say that Casanova is the be-all-end-all of Benny's voice work, since his audio plays are on completely different level, but I don't think it's forward of me to say that this audiobook is a life-changing experience. I have converted people to the Cult of Cumberbatch just on a 5-minute perusal. HE'S JUST THAT POTENT.

Pun entirely intended. ;)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Audio plays. Different level. BRING FORTH AT ONCE THIS AWESOME. Please?

[identity profile] vertrauen.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
His two most recent ones are Cabin Pressure, where Benny plays Captain Martin Crieff, an airline pilot. I haven't had a chance to listen to this because my life has been INSANE since school started, but I've only ever heard good things about it. The other is Rumpole and the Penge Bungalow Murders, which I'm not familiar with, but it's Benny, so it should be fab. He's also done Doctor Who and Blake's 7 audio plays as well. [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc and [livejournal.com profile] cumberbatchfans will have most of what you're looking for.

And, so that I'm not just commenting with nothing to show for it, have some Benny on a stage (in 30s period dress!) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmy3Brfl7-I), brought to you by the cool people at Sky. :)

Yay! Thank you so much!

Is the Kafka downloadable online somewhere? I'd love to hear that!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Working on it now, won't be a tick.

Beautiful! Thank you muchly!

[identity profile] sparky77.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
But how can you pay attention to the words when he's saying them?

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a good thing I already know the story then, isn't it ;-)

[identity profile] sparky77.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha. Point.

He should read children's book. We can hire him to read to our children and then send all the children away for the night and have him read to us instead.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He already did read children's books. Did you not hear Little Red Hen?

[identity profile] sparky77.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
HE IS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. He is.

I know this is a Benedict post and I hate to not post about him (here is something about him to make up for it: Benedict, please come read me the phonebook, because I'm sure you could make even that sound amazing) buuuttt,

You've seen (http://pics.livejournal.com/atomicskull/pic/0000w0c4) these (http://pics.livejournal.com/atomicskull/pic/0000xx5z), right?

Are these wardrobe photos for Tinker Tailor, cause they sure look like they could be. My my my. My my LOOK AT THAT SUIT. (I was trying to control the hysterics; I might've failed a little bit though).

[identity profile] atomicskull.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure, I think they might be from a magazine. Either way, THARDZ IN SOME BADASS SUITS, AWWW YIISSS.

the link to the Cumberbatch folder of Doom yes? Lots of audio stuff in there. I would highly recommend The Pillow Book although its rather ..distracting in places. The Blake 7 Early Years audios are very good as well as are all the Rumpole stuff. If you've not listened to Cabin Pressure then you are in for treat :)

Check the folder link/my LJ every now and then because I am always adding to it.

You are the kind keeper of the Folder of Awesome? Yes, I have found it and it is a wondrous thing, thank you so much. I must ask is The Pillow Book the film version or a reading of the book itself?

If you are talking about the film

..with Ewan McGregor in then no it is nothing to do with that. Its a dramatisation of part of the book by Sei Shonagon and set in Japan. Very interesting and nicely acted.

Erm. I don't know you, but could I get a link to the Folder of Doom please? I've been looking for The Pillow Book audio since I learned of its existence about a month ago with no success, and I'd very much like to listen to it.
