Boy, get a role model.

*[livejournal.com profile] red_rahl drew some art for my Inception A to Z. It is love. Adorable pint-sized love! \o/ ♥

*[livejournal.com profile] rai_kwoto wrote me some Jealous!Sherlock

*Pervygirl.tumblr.com continues to be my favorite tumblr around. For real. So NSFW

It's like my birthday is coming or some shit! :D

Assume that I've never ever ever read a Sherlock Holmes story by Sir Conan Arthur Doyle (stop shouting, reading Malraux* is time consuming ;-) -- which story listed here is a must read? (Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] maurheti)

*At this point I'm going to have to learn French just to read what I want to read because these translations leave a lot to be desired.

Tonight is a very important night, because tonight I finally get to see the last episode in Luther series one and if I was any more excited I'd keel over and foam at the mouth.

Idris "If you breathe near me you'll get knocked up" Elba! Ruth "I am the female Benedict Cumberbatch with my hair color changes totally making me an acting chameleon" Wilson! Indira "Oh my god, my hair and my cheekbones are divine" Varma! Steven "I may be lilliputian but you'd still give me the time of day" Mackintosh.

I'm totally having Ultraviolet and Undercover Heart flashbacks!

If you have not been watching this, or have not seen this, I am very sorry for you. You should rectify that at once. Also, it's been commissioned for a second series. *\o/*

This is like finding out that the cloning machine finally works.

Sidebar for all my fellow marathoners/triathletes/serious exercise fiends/anybody in training. Protein drinks. Muscle Milk tastes fantastic. Yum-my. ReGen tastes disgusting. Oh my god, don't drink that. Even if it's free post-event. It's worse than chalk.

Yesterday I heard the saddest words in the English (both versions) language: Sherlock is to return for a second series in autumn 2011 on BBC One.

Autumn 2011? That's Mad Men far away. That's worse than Mad Men far away, because Benedict has Tinker Tailor and Martin's about to go become the most famous hobbit ever and then that date may change too /o\

Also, [livejournal.com profile] maurheti informed that that God, err, Benedict sings. And he sings well.

So, for those of you keeping tabs on factoids about Benedict Cumberbatch. We present to you on this Sunday at the Holy Church of the Cumberbatch:

a) he's got a posh name
b) he has a voice like a jaguar in a cello
c) he looks like that
d) has eyes like that
e) looks like that in a suit
f) is nine feet tall
g) has an ass like that
h) is smarter than most MENSA candidates
i) probably speaks French fluently
j) has hands like this
k) sounds like the best sex of your life on audio
l) can draw
m) fucks like a goddamn pro <-- Sadly I cannot vouch for this, but the Lord said so himself.
n) he can sing
o) his hands
p) I may have a plate of ham in the kitchen to entice him (damn you [livejournal.com profile] veronamay that I started listening to this again)
q) HIS TEARS DEFINITELY CURE CANCER. (But since he doesn't cry we'll never know. Fuck Chuck Norris)

Fall of 2011??? Jesus Crayfish!!!! That's like Sopranos far away!!!! Damn, the BBC can be a heartless horehound!

(PS~ Luther: yes. Hopefully not The Very Last Episode, please.)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so far away! *sobs* But Luther's been commissioned for a second series! \o/

[identity profile] nrrrdy-grrrl.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a very nice consolation prize; it won't stop me from grousing and using wild hyperbole, but I'll take what I can get.

[identity profile] jibrailis.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Of that list of Arthur Conan Doyle stories, I think the most classic one (the one that gives you perhaps the best indicator of the Sherlock Holmes books) is The Hound of the Baskervilles. But it's a novel and it's long, so for a short story I'd suggest starting with any of the stories in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

My personal favourite story (and the slashiest) is "The Adventure of the Three Garridebs", published in The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes but I don't see it on that list, unless I am looking in the wrong place. :((((

I have to admit, knowing Indira Varma is in it is enough to get me curious about a show!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, as I have a pile of books threatening to barricade me in I will add Hound of the Baskervilles to the reading pile, but probably will not get to it for quite some time. I will definitely make sure to read your favorite story though :D

And Luther -- oh my god it's so fucking smart and pretty and the acting is superb (hardly shocking given the cast, but still). OMG! Ruth Wilson! I forgot to add Ruth Wilson.

[identity profile] ahab99.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Since "hound" is one of the clues Moffat has been giving us about next series, I'd definitely read it before next fall. And in that same vein, he also gave us "Adler" and "Reichenbach," so I would also check out "A Scandal in Bohemia" (in Adventures) and "The Adventure of the Final Problem" (in Memoirs).

[identity profile] sirona-gs.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I am rather, very, extremely sad about the Autumn 2011 date, but thankfully, we'll have MOAR of both of them to look forward to, what with all the films they're making in the meantime!

Also, an addition to your list pertaining to the wonderfulness of Mr Cumberbatch: r) he is kind to children (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmNt31Gwf4c). Witness all our ovaries exploding.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, the fairytale thing. Yes. Also, your icon? Double yes!

How is he even real?

[identity profile] sirona-gs.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
How is he even real? -- Yes. Yes, my thoughts precisely. As soon as I saw that icon, I was like, THIS.

At this point I would hesitate to listen to him in the car (where I listen to most of my audiobooks), because he would distract me too much from the actual driving.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I was listening to him before a meeting a few weeks back. I was not at my sharpest after that. Not gonna lie.

[identity profile] becky-monster.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Another thing to add to your Benedict Cumberbatch list - He's going to be both the Doctor and the Monster (on different nights) at the National Theatre in a production of 'Frankenstien' (http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=29358) next year.

Said production is being directed by Danny Boyle. Which is reason enough (for me anyway) to want to go see it. I love his work and am intrigued by this.

There is talk of it being shown around the country/world (http://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/ntlive) but I do not know how that works for for outside the UK but it sounds good.

As for 2011 - it's not just the actors are in such demand - the writers are a tad busy too - Moffatt does have series 6 of Doctor Who to deliver (or at least the first part) for Easter next year...

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard about the Frankenstein thing with Jonny Lee Miller. Oh Jonny.* Oh Benedict. I sound like I'm about to swoon. I probably am.

*Jonny and Danny! It's a Trainspotting reunion! \o/

[identity profile] sparky77.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I had a whole year studying Sherlock Holmes stories when I was in 7th grade and I can't remember any of those stories. I know I read Sign of the Four, but I couldn't tell you at all what is was about.

m) fucks like a goddamn pro <-- Sadly I cannot vouch for this, but the Lord said so himself.

Benedict fucked god?

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No god fucked the world when he only made one of Benedict.

But to answer said question, Benedict said he fucked like a pro. Yes, direct quote I just don't remember where it's from. I saw it on somebody's tumblr.

[identity profile] sparky77.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
We shall have to get back on making the cloning machine.

And, I believe 100 percent that he fucks like a pro. In fact, I would say that he was bein modest in describin his fucking as pro like and that a new catergory above pro level probably needs to be invented to decribe him.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)

It's funny you mention needing new categories for things, because I totally agree. Benedict is an entirely different category from anyone else. I need a new lexicon to describe him. Yet another reason for me to learn French.
Also, [livejournal.com profile] maurheti were discussing needing a new category for this (http://pervygirl.tumblr.com/post/1627996640) the other day. Giant deli salami was what we'd settled on.

[identity profile] sffan.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That is quite the awesome list. I am particularly intrigued by this one: m) fucks like a goddamn pro <-- Sadly I cannot vouch for this, but the Lord said so himself.

Like no man has ever lied about that before. And yet... I TOTALLY believe him. GUHHHH.

No link to the hanndddssss! And the link to "K" is messed up. (Yes, yes I did click on all of the links. Because I am OBSESSED and you are an amazing enabler. &hearts you)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)

That's what I said! (Also, I was remiss with the hands thing and have rectified both that and the broken link. Thank you :)

I don't know if you know this website already, but: sexisnottheenemy.tumblr.com

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I have seen it, but thank you!

[identity profile] ze-zebra.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
He's pretty much la perfection improbable. Latin saves the day.

Which Malraux are you reading?

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
At the moment, none because the translation I got was so crappy I had to give it up and move on. I'd been warned that it (the translation of Man's Fate) wasn't very good, but yeah, no.

[identity profile] ze-zebra.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Have to admit that Malraux isn't quite my thing. I had given up on Man's Fate, ok, I was probably too young. Still I found his writing a bit opaque? oppressing? Same impression with The Royal Way (?), not that I wouldn't recommend it (if the translation is decent).

[identity profile] laughingacademy.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
which story listed here is a must read?

Story, singular? As in just one? I would probably go with something from The Adventures..., mostly likely "A Scandal in Bohemia," "The Red-Headed League," "...Speckled Band," or "...Blue Carbuncle."

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. I sense some horror at just picking one, but I'm hoping to get my hands on a complete works soonish, so then I could read all four :)

[identity profile] laughingacademy.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
A complete works is probably the best way to go. That way you can enjoy the epic one-two punch of "The Final Problem" and "...the Empty House."

Hey, I just remembered, my classic Sherlock Holmes overview (http://community.livejournal.com/crack_van/798323.html) for [livejournal.com profile] crack_van includes story synopses/recs.

[identity profile] veronamay.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Mwahahaha. My glee is eternal.

... I need more Cumberbatch icons. Can't keep using this one all the time. It might lose its power.

That is the most perfect backside I have seen in my entire life. No, no exaggeration. It's just. The muscle, the firmness. The the... YOU KNOW.

He could've given Michelangelo arrhythmia!

[identity profile] veronamay.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Would you like to see it in GIANT? (http://twitpic.com/36qxl8/full) (Admittedly, it is not the greatest photo, but the message is delivered effectively nonetheless. You can see the little glistening water trails and everything. Also, GIANT.)

[identity profile] out-there.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the list, but mostly I love that I'm clearly not the only one who occasionally hears "all the dirty, dirty girls love Benedict Cumberbatch" go round and round her head.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Stop! Stop right now...

LALALALALALALALALA!

Fuck.

Have you watched In the Universe with Stephen Hawking?

If you haven't, try to find it (it's a Discovery Channel program, 3 episodes)... with of course Stephen Hawking AND narration by Benedict Cumberbatch (who had played Hawking in a movie about the man a few years back)...

so one can feel intelligent (while watching such a show) and still drool at Benedict's voice...

P.-S. It's available on Apple iTunes for pennies (it was $5.00 canadian for the whole 3-episode series)... money well spent :P

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I will definitely look into it, thanks :)

Oh my god, Alice and Moriarty? /o\ (It would be rather fabulous though).

I've been drinking Muscle Milk for a while without turning into the Hulk, so I think I'm okay, but thanks :)

[identity profile] kismeteve.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
We are totally on the same wavelength about Ruth Wilson (http://weatherall.tumblr.com/post/1448594327/so-where-are-the-sherlock-luther-crossovers-if-i). She and Benedict played husband and wife in Small Island, and even though her hair was a terrible bleached blonde, I was all over that.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved Small Island! It's amazing how a simple change in Ruth's hair color completely changes everything just like Benedict.

[identity profile] no-detective.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
My two cents: start with "A Scandal in Bohemia" and then read the lot. Enjoy!

As for Benedict, my ears are still buzzing from his Alan Rickman impersonation which... yeah, words fail me.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Cooking with Benedict! Why did you not tell me to gird my loins? Gracious.

[identity profile] no-detective.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
My apologies; I figured it was implied considering the ~subject.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-11-22 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You are right. If Benedict is involved girding of loins is automatically implied; I shall have to indoctrinate myself by watching this on repeat. My life is hard, yo.
