Music for Wednesdays
I've lost my ability to write. I've lost my porn, too. I can't even drum up a decent visual!
Ari has run off all of my muses, and I've lost my reading list to Supernatural and SG:A. I am most displeased –- but if you can't make yourself content no one can, so here's what I'm listening to right now:
Ben Lee 'We're All In This Together' -- Outside of his native Australia, Ben Lee's big claim to fame used to be that he was Claire Danes significant other. And then Claire dumped him and took up with Billy Crudup when he was expecting a child with Mary Louise Parker. I digress. Any song about standing in the kitchen on your rent controlled apartment cannot lose. Any song about the ties that bind us together that's cute really can't lose.
Billy MacKenzie 'Blue it Is' --I don’t know how I came to possess this song, I can only assume that I gacked it from ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)

_ducks, and IMO, the best thing about this song is that the sheer beauty of it might bring tears to your eyes. It sounds like Jeff Buckley. It really sounds like Jeff Buckley -- but it's not, and it's so distinctive you know it's not, and I don't tend to say that about anybody. I've tried some of Billy's other stuff, and it doesn't sound so much like this song, but that's not really important. Just try it.
The Cinematic Orchestra f/ Ninja Tunes 'Kirwani -- I don't know how I appropriated this song but since I have two mp3s by Ninja Tunes I presume it's through the grace of the most beloved![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-syndicated.gif)
aurgasm. This is a instrumental piece that's not strictly classical and not strictly "world" –- but it's primal as hell. It's like someone's foot sliding up your leg under the dinner table, and then suddenly saying fuck it and tackling you to the ground and fucking on the floor of the restaurant. Not that I have ever done that. No.
Corinne Bailey Rae 'Enchantment' –- I'm sure some of you have heard Corinne's first single, 'Like a Star' which I believe is a Heatseeker in the UK, and it's a nice song. Love the video because it looks like, well, everyone's flat, but I chose this song instead, because it reminds me of Erykah Badu. It's sweet and soft and alluring, but without being cloying. At least that's how it sounds now, ask me again after another five listens. I'm still a bit on the fence.
John Lee Hooker 'One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer' –- You ever have those days when you just want to drink yourself shitless? Yeah, this is the song for those days. This might also be your song if you know all the bartenders at your local and they greet you by name, Norm.
Kenna 'Sunday After You' and – 'Man Fading' Anyone who has read Malcolm Gladwell's 'Blink' will know who Kenna is and know of Kenna's dilemma, which is that you can't categorize this artist in any way, shape, or form. He sounds like Damon Albarn, if Damon could sing on key. He sounds like the lovechild of Simon LeBon and Rollo from Faithless. He's electronica and new wave and R&B and really, he's just fucking fantastic. Try him; you won't be disappointed.
Pink Nasty 'Burn' – This is a cover of the Usher song. Wait. Don’t run off. Yes, I really did say that this is a cover of a song by Usher. And not only that, but Pink Nasty take an R&B song, break it down with an acoustic guitar, and it fucking works, too. Hell, depending on your musical tastes, you might give Usher a chance based on this cover alone! And of course, you could try Pink Nasty, too, because what a name for a performer.
Regina Spektor 'Reading Time with Pickle' -- I've recommended Regina before because her song 'Us' is just that brilliant. Some people might compare her to Fiona Apple, but Regina and Fiona are two completely separate entities, and the only thing they have in common is that they play the piano. This song starts out talking about going grocery shopping and winds up being about the truth about falling in love. Sometimes it makes you a little crazy.
Supergrass 'St Petersburg' -- I think most people know Supergrass for their song, 'Alright', which was featured in Clueless, and you know, that's a fabulous song, as are most of Supergrass' songs. The rub being that since they're not the hottest band around you don't tend to hear about them as much as say Elbow. Sometimes I forget about them, and then I'm reminded how great they can be. I listened to this song six times last night, because it really is that beautiful. If you've ever wanted to leave someplace so badly you were counting the days, you want this song.
