(no subject)

This week sucks. I thought I could come up with something clever (sucks like a $2 hooker! TM[livejournal.com profile] antheia) or catchy (if it sucks, it must be a day ending in 'Y'!) or suitably cutting (sucks like your mom!) to describe how hard it sucks, but nope, don't even have that. That is how hard this week sucks.

And now this:

Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams will star in The Time Traveler's Wife, the Robert Schwentke-directed adaptation of the bestselling Audrey Niffenegger novel.

Shooting's set to start in August.

Bana will play a Chicago librarian with a genetic disorder that causes him to time-travel when he is under duress. Though his disorder causes him to vanish for long periods, he tries to build a life with the woman he loves. She's a young heiress struggling with the arrangement.

I love Rachel. If I were into girls, I would totally hit that, but Eric Bana? As HENRY? Henry is lithe. Henry is a little punky. Eric Bana is the fucking Hulk (horrible movie, but the idea sticks). Couldn't you get a real actor like Ed Norton (even though, he's apparently playing the Hulk now)? Or a real Henry, like, like somebody else? How about Matthew Goode? He's hot. He can be an asshole too. And he and Rachel McAdams would set the screen on fire. And Clare isn't an heiress! WTF, people?! I must go cry now -- or something suitably [livejournal.com profile] hackthis as I don't cry.

I know. Please go convince [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore she has to write Nathan/Peter under the title SEX BOMB!

Do it for me the children the porn ME. Please?!!!

ERIC BANA?! No. That is so freaking wrong. I just...No. Eric Bana is no Henry.

*sigh* And I was so looking forward to this movie and the casting of Rachel.

I know. I me too. *pats*

*pats you* I am so, so with you on the amazingly sucktastic week.

But I went and changed my poll answer for you! I am--um. A drop. A drop in your river of awesome.

*pats you* I am so, so with you on the amazingly sucktastic week.

*hugs back* Down with this week! Let's fast forward to next Monday with new Petrellicest!

pee ess. THANK YOU! From one river of awesome to another :)

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Why must they mess with such a good book? I hope that's just wrong info and they aren't turning Claire into an heiress. That would just be stupid. And yeah, Eric Bana is hot, but most of his movies suck and he's so not who I envisioned as Henry.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
WORD!

[identity profile] linaerys.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you see Munich? Eric Bana is not so bad. Although I'm happy to say I never saw Hulk.

Edward Norton would have been cool too, but I think the Bana might make it work. Henry is kinda badass.

And OMG SEXBOMB. Must read this fic toot sweet.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No, he wasn't bad in Munich, but baby, he's not Henry. You know that. Eric Bana is not a bad ass. Tyler Durden? Bad ass. That guy from American History X? Supremely scary and bad ass.

Ideally Ryan Gosling should have been Henry, but I knew that wasn't gonna happen. *sigh*

[identity profile] knowledgequeen.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
What's wrong with Eric? He's a great actor who's somehow always wound up being a hit in shit (except for Munich).

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Black Hawk Down wasn't shit. ;)

[identity profile] knowledgequeen.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I sit corrected, LOL; I don't usually think of that as an Eric film, if only because it was such an ensemble piece, but you're absolutely right. :)

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
And I am ridiculously looking forward to 'Romulus, My Father' & 'The Other Boleyn Girl'.

It's a shame that he was so wasted in 'Troy'. *sighs*

[identity profile] knowledgequeen.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
See, I'm looking forward to Romulus, but anything Philippa Gregory wrote is unmitigated shit so I'm going to have to be really fucked up to go see that sober. XD

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm not looking forward to it because of the source material. *g* I'm looking forward to it for the cast.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He's just not Henry. Henry is this lithe, punky, spunky, sort of assholish guy. Eric Bana is meat-n-potatoes (as [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon likes to say), it's a complete oxymoron in casting. I just don't see it at all.

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't read the book, but Eric can totally act. I mean, he may LOOK wrong for the part, but then, I said the same thing about Mark Wahlberg as Bob Lee Swagger & he did just fine.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I know you want to defend your man, sweetie, I respect that, but he's not Henry. He's just not. Read the book and you will see. Really.

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's what I mean. Mark? TOTALLY was completely not right in my head for Bob Lee. But he wound up being alright. So, uh, I guess my point is, um, hell, who knows what my point is. I think it's something to do with maybe he can sell Henry internally, if not on looks. *nods*

My friend Wendy's been trying to get me to read it. This is the one where the dude keeps popping in & out of time, right?

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
My friend Wendy's been trying to get me to read it. This is the one where the dude keeps popping in & out of time, right?

Yes, but it's not about that. Really. I'd hesitated forever, because I had it continually talked up to me, and you know when there's that much hype it's never good -- but I zipped through it in a way I haven't in years, because, to me, it was just that compelling. Some people love it passionately -- I sent it off to a couple of my friends because I had to share and they loved it. Other people, you know, they don't -- but to me, it's a story, an absolutely beautiful story, and you don't get many of those in books anymore, you know?

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, you sold me. As soon as I'm done getting my heart ripped out by Cormac McCarthy (which has taken me forever to pick up & I adore his books & have gotten so many of my friends hooked on him), I'll give it a whirl.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
YAY! *rubs shiny new toaster*

[identity profile] cosmic.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Chiming in with a completely opposing opinion: more than anything I think Eric Bana's good and just solid. I will maybe have a little trouble with him, a little maybe as the younger Henry, but no trouble at all as Henry gets older.

He's the only reason I still have positive feelings about Troy. And I want to have his babies. Maybe that makes me biased.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I sat through Troy, all six years of it, and I will never forgive the person I went with because I tried to leave TWICE and they wouldn't let me.

[identity profile] drunktuesdays.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
hmm, I thought Claire was sort of heiress-y? Didn't she grow up in a house with like 20 rooms? But I definitely don't want them to play her in the Paris Hilton way. That would suck hard.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
She came from money, but that doesn't automatically make her a heiress -- besides, heiress is a dirty word these days, you know that. Your first thought was of Paris Hilton!

[identity profile] drunktuesdays.livejournal.com 2007-04-17 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thats definitely true enough! Maybe this will just be crappy PR, and it will still be amazing? Maybe?

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Dude. You've got some serious power. People actually changed their vote in the poll. *g*

(*whispers* I'm going to write the story. Can I resist? It's Sex Bomb????)

*is still picketing up and down Lenore's street*

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB! SEX! BOMB!

I am small but mighty. Plus, hello, this is totally for a good cause. I mean if one of your favorite writers was waffling about writing your current Pairing Du Jour, wouldn't you bring out the big picket signs?

Exactly.

[identity profile] torchthisnow.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Clare is SORT OF an heiress...

Whatever. I'm depressed, too. Fucking Eric Bana. I knew it was down to him or Heath Ledger as of a few weeks ago, and while I wasn't crazy about either of them, I would have preferred HEath.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, she's sort of an heiress, but you know that's a dirty word these days. Hell, even [livejournal.com profile] cosmic's immediate reaction was, "...like Paris Hilton." I mean really. We're doomed.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry that was [livejournal.com profile] loveyouallwrong not [livejournal.com profile] cosmic, but STILL.

Preach.

[identity profile] heidi8.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore is going to write a fic involving Nathan, Peter and LUSH products (http://usa.lush.com/cgi-bin/lushdb/157?expand=Bath)?

Shiny!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
What was even better than what you said was your response. 'Shiny!' *chuckles* Too cute.

[identity profile] heidi8.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't you think that Nathan and Peter would be very shiny after testing out a wide range of Lush products?

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I love how subtle you are. I have ideas, I just can't get anything to come to fruition. Certainly not for a lack of thinking about -- ooh chocolate -- um, where was I? Yes. Nathan & Peter. Lush.

The lotion is a gift from one of Peter's nursing school friends, because men should smell good too. Peter doesn't really notice the smell, he just uses it because it's there and it's not greasy.

When Nathan visits though, he notices, because Nathan notices everything. His nose wrinkling first in confusion, then in distaste, and then upon another sniff. "Huh."

Peter snorts softly to himself.

Except the smell is all over Peter. In his hair, on his clothing, even his skin is shimmering strangely -- it's like it's another person, some other influence, which is completely unacceptable to Nathan. So there is shoving. Lots of man-handling. Against the door. In the kitchen.

Nathan's smelling behind Peter's ear, and Peter sighs. "You know, even dogs aren't this possessive about their territory."

Nathan laughs low in his throat. "Does that make you my bitch?"

Peter glances over his shoulder. "I was going to say 'only in your dreams,' but now I think there's something you want to tell me."

And then there is sex. On the floor. Which kind of hurts and it kind of mind-blowing.

Later, when Nathan's collecting this things to leave, Peter's still lying on the floor of the kitchen in a pile of clothes, drawing aimless patterns on the tiling.

"Are you going to get up?" Nathan asks, adjusting his tie.

"Why?" Peter asks curiously.

"You can't stay there forever."

Peter licks his lower lip. "I can try."

Nathan sighs and rubs his hand over his face. His skin smells like Peter even after a shower. "Pete, don't start."

Peter snorts softly again. "Don't start. Don't stop. You should make up your mind."

Nathan shakes his head and turns sharply on his heel. "I have," he snaps.

"Yeah," Peter calls after him, "right."

Heee! I am a terribly evil enabler and you just too amazing for words. This was terrific and very, very inspired. LushPorn! What could be better?

Do you think that the people at Lush would mind if there was, say, a fanfic challenge based on Lush products? It wouldn't *have* to be all-R+NC17, of course - there are some very innocent uses for Lush yummies.

And, you know, some Lush things (http://usa.lush.com/cgi-bin/lushdb/2176?expand=Skincare) are for boys, too (http://usa.lush.com/cgi-bin/lushdb/2462?expand=Massage%20Bars).

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-19 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I think you should be able to use the name or the product or both -- all in the name of marketing though you understand. We're doing it for the company -- and 5% off the backend.

[identity profile] missdeviant.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
WHAT???

WHAT????

Eric BANA????

I mean, my dream Henry is Jim Caviezel, aka Jesus, so it was never gonna happen, but seriously, WHAT????

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I would think someone like Ryan Gosling I don't know, someone who can act like Henry for a start. Somebody like Joseph Gordon-Levitt in ten years or James McEvoy or shit, ANYBODY ELSE!! Christ, I suppose they should be happy they didn't use flipping Jude Law!

[identity profile] thepouncer.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh dear god. Not Eric Bana. So not Henry. Just, NOT.

This is always a problem when they make books that I love into movies - the actors never match the picture I created in my head as I read.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, sweetie, I know. *pets*

[identity profile] liseuse.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
I may cry. Eric Bana? For the love of all that is sacred, WHY?

I was actually kind of looking forward to this adaptation. It's never going to be as good as the book, but Rachel McAdams is adorable and then this. BAH.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
My sentiments exactly.

[identity profile] radioreverie.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] mskatej just linked me to this because I was bitching and moaning about the exact same thing. Eric Bana is not Henry. He can never be Henry. He could not be more wrong. He is not a lanky punk rock librarian! He has no sense of mischief or humor. He is far too old. He is far too bland and masculine. Henry really had a trace of androgyny, as well. He was not a typical male.

I don't think this movie is going to turn out well. The director (he directed FLIGHTPLAN) is terrible. All the people who have had their hands all over the script are terrible. And I'm sure they're not going to retain any of the cultural signifiers that Audrey made so vivid in the book. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved it from Chicago to New York. If Henry and Clare's passion for punk and indie rock were erased from existence. If there's a theme song specially written by Faith Hill.

The whole thing makes me upset.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2007-04-18 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
If there's a theme song specially written by Faith Hill.

I agree with everything you said, however, if this particular thing happens, I will picket outside the theatre. Seriously.

Eric Bana is the fucking Hulk (horrible movie, but the idea sticks). Couldn't you get a real actor like Ed Norton (even though, he's apparently playing the Hulk now)

ow, that makes my head hurt. i like eric bana, but definitely not as henry. matthew goode would be AWESOME. sigh.
