I started reading your LJ entries during the Presidential elections but was sidetracked by your fantastic Ari-centric fanfiction that got me to start watching Entourage. I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning trying not to wake up the whole house by laughing while I read because it cheered me up so much.

Then I noticed all of the Generation Kill entries, and while I had missed the miniseries on HBO, I dug up the episodes and instantly fell in love. This was only reinforced by your fanfiction, the fandom in general, One Bullet Away, and Nate Fick's (fictional and real) awesomeness.

When you mentioned Southland, I decided that since you had already showed me the Promised Land once, it was highly probable that you could do it again, so I started watching the series. I am now terribly addicted and ashamed at my friends for not following the trend (although they are all watching Generation Kill because of me. We might just shout "Get some!" a little too much).

So, here's a lurker de-lurking just to thank you for everything you post. The fanfiction, the fandom, and the politics. I hope it never ends.

Ari does that to people, I totally understand. Boy do I understand. And I'm so glad that you got a chance to watch GK, it is my goal to infect the world with awesome TV habits and weed out the crap. Then again, I only watch three hours of TV a week at this point, so clearly I am losing this battle. Still, GK was the best TV of last year and Southland might be the best for this year (even though the Unusuals might be the most entertaining -- ask me after summer telly).

Anyway, don't be a stranger! You are totally welcome around here :)

I think the first post of yours I ever read was your Generation Kill pimp back in August. Though I was already watching (and obsessed with) the show, I was relieved and heartened to know I wasn't the only one. I return to the well religously for your GK fic (which could inspire a church of its own, I think...I'd worship there) and I appreciate someone who enjoys a good rant every now and then.

Though I don't watch either Merlin or Southland, I feel like I should, just because you're writing on them. I mean, I must be missing something good, right?

Generation Kill is the balm of my soul. It is the wick in my candle. It is -- did I really say it's the wick in my candle? Ohhhhhkay then. But you get the point, I love GK madly.

As for my recommendations? Merlin is fun. It's pretty and light and you can watch it and it will totally fill the time and make you laugh. It's like... a donut. It's not for substance. For substance you want Southland. If Southland were on HBO it would be like GK with cops. It is intense, all the damn time, but it's all very compelling.

I would be very happy to roll anywhere with Brad and Ray I have to say. Even Baghdad.

Huh, looking at your memories, I was apparently reading you for a long time, through recs from crack_van and such! I remember reading various works-- the X-Men, and Entourage, and all the RPF, I think. Then I somehow ran into you around the Olympics, and screwed all my courage up because even though friending people scares the shit out of me, the urge to keep track of non-crazy people who liked Michael Phelps' abs was too strong. Then, Generation Kill. But anyway, I pretty much think you're awesome.

(Actually, the first clear memory I have of your journal was when you were yelling at Lush for bath-tub stain problems. Which utterly delighted me at the time, because I'd just used one of their bath bombs, and it left the tub looking like I had been enjoying nasty, nasty times with the Kool Aid Pitcher Man.)
