LURKER AMNESTY DAY!

I'm copying this word-for-word from the most awesome [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore and declaring today Lurker Amnesty Day! Read but never comment? Surf by occasionally? Here for the fic? Say hello! You are under no obligation to ever comment or delurk again, but here's a chance to do so in a post just for that.

And, you know, if you aren't a lurker but want to say hello and amuse me, that would also make me happy! Amusement is always welcome.

ETA: If you are looking for something awesome in your life, why not try watching The Unusuals. ABC, 10pm, tonight (Wednesday). I offer Exhibits #1 and #2 for your consideration.

ETA#2: As I told [livejournal.com profile] sockich: I am so impressed by how many of you guys are all GENERATION KILL, YEAH! and SOUTHLAND, HOORAY! Seriously it's totally making my day.

[identity profile] lovetheboys.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure I originally found you through your OC fics, and I thought you were hilarious and made of awesome, so I friended you. Mostly I read your posts but don't comment, but I try to comment on the fic. Sometimes.

Lately, it's your fault (thank you!) for getting me into GK. I'm pretty sure no amount of gushing even from you will get me to watch Southland (the angst factor in just the commercials is not my cup of tea) but I enjoy your commentaries anyway.

And as for amusing you... I keep having flashes of Layla as a teen/young adult and having to introduce her significant other/s to her dads. "Now, don't freak out! They were Recon Marines but that was like forever ago. They're really just my dads, I swear!" I mean, really? Worst introduction potential ever. And that always makes me smile.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry I can't tempt you to try out Southland, but the Unusuals is also good and has zero of the angst. And [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 and I have talked about Layla's dating years and agreed that she pretty much brought home everybody from the captain of the football team to a 30 year old Army Ranger to the head of the Debate Team, as an ode to Ray.

I watched Generation Kill a few weeks ago and LOVED it and the only reason it was even on my radar was your pimping when it first aired, so . . . THANK YOU!

HOORAY!!

*waves her GK flag*

[identity profile] womance.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm here for the Merlin fic. And also really shy. *waves*

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
HI!!!

I came here for Neville

[identity profile] mysweetbrick.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
And I never left. You have, however led me into new and shiny shows (and music, but I believe that will be the subject for next year's amnesty) I am totally enamoured of The Unusuals and Southland (I am also trying to reign in my massive crush on Aldis but, ya know?). My bandwidth says I will wait till Australia puts Generation Kill on cable to watch that one.

Re: I came here for Neville

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Rein not your Hardison crush for Hardison is AWESOME. Let me know what you think of GK when you finally get a chance to see it. :)

[identity profile] kaiserkuchen.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
I am one of those people, who after for screwing up the courage to click 'add', proceeded to never actually comment on anything. Fail, self, faaaail. Have been following you since the SV/HP/OC days though and you can be pretty much credited with paving the way for me actually actively reading and enjoying RPF/RPS and probably having a more than working passive knowledge of GK/SOUTHLAND and what not (DVDs will be bought when I am baaaaaack in cheap DVDland aka Asia, and you are seriously like my primer to everything XD)

So uh, thank you for that! YOU ARE AWESOME, MADAME ♥

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray for another one on the RPF train! I hope you enjoy Southland/GK when you finally get a chance to see them.

[identity profile] ionaonie.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
The Unusuals, huh? I might have to dl watch that. You have yet to recommend anything I haven't liked.

I mainlined Generation Kill in like 4 days and then bought the book and read that in a day or two and now I'm full of Southland love *g*

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
GK is made of win. And love. And awesome. Same with Southland.

And yes, watch the Unusuals.

Um, hi. I've been lurking here for a while. I blame you (in a very happy way) for my current obsession with Generation Kill and Southland.

Generation Kill especially. My cousin recommended it to me (he was a British Para who was in the first wave on invasion to Iraq and he loves the show so much) but I never watched it until you started talking about it and writing fic. Now I'm like an evangelist. I walk around asking people if they've ever thought about bringing the joy of a platoon of foul mouthed marines into their lives.

So, anyway, hi.

This fills my heart with untold glee. Seriously. We welcome all at the Church of Generation Kill

*delurks briefly*

Been here through multiple fandoms. Love your stories. Your journal is always very interesting to read as well.

Have a lovely week :)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Likewise! (and also, Hi!)

[identity profile] alixnoorchis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hey. I usually stop by to check out your fic and comment occasionally. I'm so enamored of Southland right now that it's not even funny, so I'm thrilled to find you writing it. Thanks!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Southland FTW!

[identity profile] outofcontinent.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm coming up from under my rock to say that I've been lurking and reading your LJ for... too long for me to admit without sounding like a class A stalker. But I love your writing, and you have the most amazing ability to get me to believe in the possibility of the crackiest of your ideas. So thanks!

And now I'm going to crawl back under my rock. Don't mind me.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the lovely comments and for stopping by. :)

[identity profile] susan-voight.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I lurk. Pseudonymously.

I came ages ago for fic and stayed because you write interesting posts.

Thanks! And Hi!

*grins* I am totally here for the fic and to find out about awesome TV I should be watching (will watch in the summer when I have actual time). Southland is so on the list, btw.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Southland.
The Unusuals.
In the summer? Burn Notice and Psych. And Mad Men. Love Mad Men.

Looking through these comments I keep seeing fandoms/interests that overlap, and yet I think I only realised around Merlin. And Generation Kill, which you got me into. And now I looked at your interests and see Elbow love, and duct tape (because it's love), and The Wire and feel compelled to just go FTW.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Duct tape is the gift from heaven. It can do everything. Also, hi!

Hi, started reading for the fic a while ago but am so lurker-y that I tend to read through an RSS reader.

Thanks for pimping Southland so much, I started watching on your rec and have really enjoyed watching it. Cant wait for more episodes and more fic!

Just wanted to say that I love your fic and share the love for most of your fandoms.

I find your fic witty and sweet and sometimes sexy, and always enjoyable.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You are very sweet, thank you.

And also, hi!

[identity profile] ladyjaneva.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Hihi :-)

Originally I friended you because of your HP fic. I fell in love with those. Sometimes I read your posts, sometimes I don't.

Actually what I caught my eye at your post today was the "Amnesty". See, I'm a member of amnesty international and have just come back from doing at work.

So, this is me, one of those lurkers ;-)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi!

[identity profile] ellot.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
your generation kill fics make me want to write gk fic as well. (i had a vague au idea that was hijacked by another fandom. but i do hope to write a gk fic soon. but who knows how much that'll change.) but yeah, i love your gk fics, especially the road not taken. i've always been a sucker for stories where a couple spend only a short time together before separating. and then they meet up years later.

anyway, i'm rather bad about talking to people, i've found. i thought i'd say hi though. especially since i have no lj-friends who know anything about generation kill, which seriously sucks. :P

also, tried to watch the vid links. they aren't available in the uk but i'll check out the show once i'm stateside again in the summer. or, i'll just dl some episodes to check out. but seriously, i'm watching so many shows right now. :D

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It is always nice to talk to other people who are excited about GK, so yay for that, and I hope you get a chance to check the Unusuals, it really is very entertaining.

[identity profile] sociobunny.livejournal.com 2009-04-30 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey....I've been reading your LJ for 4 years, and I really enjoy your fic. You have also totally addicted me to GK, and it makes me sad how little fic there is for the fandom.

-Mira

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
THERE IS NOT ENOUGH GK FIC. I agree. Yes.

[identity profile] calla-comet.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
i love the idea of lurker amnesty day. although i appear to be a day late... (i have an odd work schedule so it throws off my surfing time. stupid job. so apologies for the tardiness.) anyway, i realize after i posted my very first comment to you about your most excellent "southland" fic, "Meantime, In Between Time", that i've been lurking/stalking you for years and through several verses. going through my memories and junk, i think i originally read your stuff in OCland... or maybe x-men. i rediscovered your stuff on olympic_slash because i adore your swimslash. (i'm somewhat mad for MP fic.) and even though i haven't watched GK yet (it's on my list, i swear), i've actually read some (probably most) of your GK fic, which is fantastic like all your other stuff. you write entertaining, well-told, compelling stories. period. so whether i know the characters (or the world they inhabit) or not simply does not matter. you give story.

and wow. this is kind of long so i'll shut up now.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That was such a lovely comment, it totally made my day, so thank you very much. I'm very touched that you enjoy my writing so much, it means a lot. I hope you enjoy GK when you get a chance to see it; I think it's pretty much up there as the best TV series ever (tied with The Wire and Band of Brothers in my book).

And also, hi :)

Thank you

[identity profile] fulanadetal.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been reading your fics for years and you never fail to rock my world. Thank you!

Re: Thank you

You are very sweet, thank you!

[identity profile] snarkathon.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ack! I'm too late for Lurker Amnesty Day. But I'm popping up to say that I've been stalking your lj since Trade. And throughout the years, your pimping has influenced me to love GK (dirty, sweaty marines? unf), Merlin, and so many other things. I even read your political commentary now. And I'm not even American!
