I think... I think that's something that's very much a John trait. He has absolutely no problem with letting Ben drive the car, because he's getting what he wants anyway about it. And it clearly makes Ben happy. I think if their relationship was truly one of Ben being sort of submissive, then yeah, John'd be driving all over the place, but I see this more as a relationship of equals. Or them trying to get to that place.
