Watch this now. Yes, that is an order.

I talk about my love of Generation Kill a lot but not so much about my love of Band of Brothers, which is kind of hysterical, because if your name is [livejournal.com profile] spookshowbaby BoB is like the only thing I talked about for the better part of seven months. The point being that if at this point my harassment has compelled you to watch one of these amazing series but not the other, I hope this super trailer which blends Generation Kill and Band of Brothers into some sort of wartime epic will convince you to give the one you're missing a shot. You wouldn't think meshing 1944 and 2003 together would work. You'd be wrong.

And if you've watched both, well, then you are REALLY gonna love this.

I KNOW! What utter crap is that?!? Way to lose the quality debate, NBC.

I'm with you; rage blackout is the only appropriate response.

Yup. I hope that we at least get a DVD set worth the six produced episodes. And Ben McKenzie sounded so hopeful in the interview, about how the season premiere date was going to be good for the show.

NOT ON, NBC. NOT ON.

I knew they were talking out their asses, but I just... you know, even when they fuck up you hope maybe this time it'll be different. HA!

They ARE supposed to at least let a few episodes air first and SEE if audiences respond. And crap like Heroes and the show about the nurses is still on the air, but the quality show... There aren't actually any words.

It had been a while since I had seen a show that seemed even remotely realistic, that was serious and interesting and layered. It wasn't quite The Wire*, but it was pretty good. Ah, TV execs; you never fail to disappoint.

* but then, what show could be, really?

Word to everything you just said, especially the bit about it being fucking FOREVER since there was a smart, real show on TV and oh, look, they got scared and ran off. Well done network pussies.

I was just thinking the other day how in some ways I wished that Generation Kill was an ongoing show; the writing was great, and the actors have so much chemistry together... but then reading about this kind of thing makes me really grateful to have one show where the canon is closed and -- most importantly -- closed where the writers intended that it should. At least that way you get a story with a beginning, middle and end instead of a truncated run, you know?
