I dunno what happened between yesterday morning and this afternoon, but uh, I like whatever Kool-Aid y'all are drinking and wish to stockpile it for the upcoming revolution. I see how it works now though, I write y'all not one, but two, GK fics* (which is technically more than I've written since, oh, say September) and y'all give me things.

THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME!! I am totally available for bribery!!

First of all, huge appreciation and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lambourngb who bought me two months of Paid LJ times (which uh, I kind of needed since it was running out two days after Christmas). Do you want a pony?! I can give you one of [livejournal.com profile] sparky77's!

And secondly, to [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma for my snow globe. I love snow globes.

And last but never ever least to [livejournal.com profile] alethialia, [livejournal.com profile] bijoux, [livejournal.com profile] copernica3, [livejournal.com profile] imntsaying, [livejournal.com profile] not_sally, [livejournal.com profile] pinkfinity, [livejournal.com profile] shezan, [livejournal.com profile] sockitch, [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 (keep your Orlando cooties to yourself), [livejournal.com profile] sprat, [livejournal.com profile] trolleys, [livejournal.com profile] wickedprimadona, and Anonymous #1, #2, #3 Thank you for my awesome cookies, which just make my info page very pretty and happy and make *me* very happy, so thank you that. I truly could not ask for a more wonderfully giving flist and you make me very happy to write for you. <3

*If you missed either of my GK fics It May Be Heart and Fist and Human Voice and Pefect Opening Line (which I posted on Saturday night, while the rest of the world was drinking, sleeping or committing c-class felonies) I recommend them, because I can recommend myself all I fucking want :D

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] alethialia has posted A Newbie's Guide or Even A Bitter Old Fandom Queen's Guide to what to read in Generation Kill fandom. Okay, that's like a long version of the title, but what A has done is she's created a definitive rec list of what to read in our fandom, and I've only read the first rec and I just say, get thee hence!

I would like to add, however, that she has not added HERSELF to this list, which is bullshit. A, now is not the time to be modest, so I shall do it for you. If you have a chance, I think you should read A's entire GK ouvre here.

If you are strapped for time however, I particularly recommend The Temptation of the LT from last years's [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, Some Stay, Pleasure over Propriety and Noblesse Oblige (and not just b/c it was written for my birthday).
I talk about my love of Generation Kill a lot but not so much about my love of Band of Brothers, which is kind of hysterical, because if your name is [livejournal.com profile] spookshowbaby BoB is like the only thing I talked about for the better part of seven months. The point being that if at this point my harassment has compelled you to watch one of these amazing series but not the other, I hope this super trailer which blends Generation Kill and Band of Brothers into some sort of wartime epic will convince you to give the one you're missing a shot. You wouldn't think meshing 1944 and 2003 together would work. You'd be wrong.

And if you've watched both, well, then you are REALLY gonna love this.

So, I'm kind of on hiatus right now. I'm around, but not really, but if you need me I'm sure you can find me. Like today when [livejournal.com profile] trolleys was all "the idea of [Brad] being Iceman when it comes to everything BUT Nate and he reverts to 8th-grade-dance awkwardness which Nate thinks is painfully adorable and ten, twenty years later Brad will still try to awkwardly dodge Nate's compliments because let's face it, one doesn't get 100% used to Nate's awesomeness even when you're married to him, and Nate's heart will still feel that pull of overwhelming fondness at the sight of bashful!Brad. and I was like, OMG! WTF! BBQ! <3333333

And then she and I did what we normally do around each other, which that is one of us baits the other and then we babble for a bit and generally something pops out into the world, like a baby, but with a way shorter gestational period.

All this babbling is to say that [livejournal.com profile] trolleys IS SO MUCH LOVE because she made art for older!married Brad and Nate with grown-up!Layla and hand-holding and grey hair and blushing and prune juice and v-neck sweaters and then I fucking DIED.

Please tell [livejournal.com profile] trolleys how much you love her, because really, I do and you should too.

ETA: I admit that post and the .gif almost makes me want to write some total piece of fluff called like, "My Baby Said I Did a Good Job" or "Dear Mom, I Met the Man I Want to Marry" or something equally embarrassing.
You know what I love about Generation Kill fandom? Oh, like, fucking everything. I mean I happen to think I have one of the most awesome, giving flists ever. So, if I have the best flist ever, then I also happen to think that Generation Kill is my best fandom ever. It's small (which I prefer), the writing quality is amazingly high (which is awesome) and because we're all really really really happy to be here, we tend to support each other tremendously. We cheerlead a lot. We will cheer for you if you write, if you draw, if you can string together a coherent phrase. We will even cheer for your ass for contributing ideas and then taking nine months to turn them out. (See Get Some for proof of this).

For further proof of GK's awesome, I submit to you the following recommendations.

#1 -- [livejournal.com profile] tevere's Sixteen Days in September, which is an AU story about Nate as a Peace Corps volunteer. But, I'm going to tell you now that that has nothing to do with the story. It's incidental, because this story is about the United Nations and the independence of East Timor from Indonesia. This story is about politics and warfare. IMO, there are Generation Kill characters (personas?) involved but this is not really a GK story, this story is about what happened in Rwanda and Somalia and every third-world nation where, if there's not oil involved, the UN just sort of sits around with its thumb up its ass. This is not an easy story. It is not light. You will not feel better afterwards -- but you will feel enlightened. And then you will be in desperate need of the following…

#2 -- Last week was [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl's birthday. You might've heard me talk about it once or twice (or three times).

Well, last night [livejournal.com profile] alethialia posted This Close to the Real Thing, which she wrote for L's birthday based off of her prompts for the Porn Skirmish, and let me tell you, she got all the good ones: wet dreams, sex toys, dirty talk. I would especially pay attention to the wet dreams part of the equation, since at one point I was threatening her with an injunction on Brad's behalf. It has been too long since the world was graced with an A story. You could tell her that too.

#3 -- And then, once you are done there, I want you all to go and encourage [livejournal.com profile] snglesrvngfrend as much as humanly possible because her GK debut Mistakes We Knew We Were Making forced me to climb in the freezer for at least ten minutes. An AU about a Nate who never quite made it to the Marines, but who knows better than to sleep with them… right until he meets Brad. Yeah, Brad is universal like that.

And last but never ever ever least

#4 -- [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl wrote Johnny Walker Wisdom, which I am totally biased over, because she wrote it for ME! ME! ME! And it features Drunk!Nate, who perhaps is the most adorable drunk you will ever have the fortune to run across. This story is also about the effect of Drunken!Nate on Brad, which is pretty much like causing the collapse of an entire house by pulling out one brick. I just love L's writing madly.

And yes, I do admit to being biased regarding, like, one or two, or all of these stories, but, um, that doesn't mean you shouldn't read them. I'm just saying. You all know how picky I am, would I steer you wrong?

ETA: And! And! Daddy's home from vacation Ahem. I mean [livejournal.com profile] tomricks is back for all your military based/war insanity intelligensia, doing the real job the rest of the media just won't do. [plays Eminem's 'Without Me']
Today is the most beloved [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl's birthday. Yes, she of the sniper-like pornography (one shot to the head and you're on your back) and gorgeous turn of phrase, who I have known through many years and many fandoms, has graced us with another year. I think it's a testament to her character (and mine) that we haven't shared a fandom in many, many years, but after much harassing she has come to the Generation Kill side and I honestly could not be happier about this. In fact, I would write you a story just to celebrate your day of birth... but I already did that. (It is possible there shall be another, I dunno, everybody's being shady... especially John, I don't even know what's up with that. Maybe Slutty!Ben broke him. Which would be really sad).

And I would create a banner of glittering cocks... but [livejournal.com profile] amberlynne beat me to it (and I have no idea how).

I digress. Happy Birthday, L, you are a joy and a comfort and one of the most giving, thoughtful people I have ever encountered in fandom. PORN SWAT would not be the same without you. Especially considering that you write sex that involves bacon and syrup. And a gorgeous Lilley POV. And Brad meeting Nate's ex.

Speaking of porn, or not, GK people, get thee to [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 LJ and read the very long time coming premiere of her Rudy POV, Rudy's Guide to Auras and Fair Game Play, which guest stars Pappy and Ray and Brad (and Poke! ILU Poke!). Some people Q is just born to write. First Ray, now Rudy. I think it says something about her, but I shan't say what exactly (but you can probably guess).

ETA: Is it possible that any of you lot have the following mp3s:

Babybird 'Back Together'
Shawn MacDonald 'Captivated'
Wyclef Jean and the All-Stars 'New Day'
Irma Thomas 'Break-a-way'
Blue October 'Breakfast After 10'
Steve Earle 'Feel Alright'
Snow Patrol 'We Can Run Away Now They're All Dead and Gone'
The Parlor Mob 'Can't Keep No Good Boy Down'
Sponge 'Plowed'

ETA#2:: WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME ABOUT THE BALLAD OF G.I. JOE?
One of the many many many things to love about Generation Kill fandom is that you can get people to do, like, pretty much any fucking thing if you harass them or just clap really loudly and make seal noises (trufax).

So when late last night [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl showed Q, A and I her epic poetical masterpiece: The Care and Keeping of the Iceman by Ray Person, Cpl. USMC, which is also a teaser for a story she's writing right now, I just KNEW it had to be shared immediately, because only in GK can you write this sort of poem:

This is Ray. Ray hates that bitch. Ray wants to fuck her shit up.
Brad doesn't listen to Ray about girls. Given that Ray likes Walt, this is probably wise.
This calls for command.

This is Nate. He's the lieutenant.
He wants Brad, but we're pretending we don't know that.
Save Brad, LT! You can do it with your cock-sucking lips!

READ IT. Your life will be better for it. Also, if anybody felt compelled to draw stick figure art for the betterment of society, you know, that would be fucking AWESOME. I'd do it myself but I have no scanner to share it with the class. I may have to just draw it on a napkin and put it in the post to L. Hmmm. ETA: NOW WITH ART BY [livejournal.com profile] bijoux!!

And then, once you are done with that astounding lyrical brilliance I expect you to go over to [livejournal.com profile] sparky77's LJ and read her masterpiece entitled Fucking Rainbows. I know, yes, in our fandom we blaspheme rainbows. And why would we ever do such a thing? Well, you remember that story about the military working a Gay Bomb back in the day (I swear I'm not making that one up)? Imagine if it went off around Second Platoon. Like sex pollen only wayyyyyyyyy better.

While you are there you should also encourage her to write Ray's Guide to Why Brad and Nate Should Fuck so I don't have to. It's an alphabetical rhyme as it were. Maybe I will see if she wants to collaborate.

Southland people, I promise you I would never ever ever ever forget you. You know that comment!fic [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl started the other day? The one where Ben buys a dildo called The Cop Killer ... ... Yes, I actually typed that sentence (I just had to go back and make sure that I really just typed that sentence). Well. It became a story. Yes, one comment has turned into eight pages of FILTH. Read Call 911. Have a defibrilator nearby for when you go into cardiac arrest from porn overdose.

You see how I make fandom a better place by encouraging these activities? I know, I love you too. And yes, comment-fest continues, I'm just a little busy right now and can't be as prompt with turn around as I like.
My Favorite Mix
This past weekend I was cleaning out some of my mediafire folders and came across the file for When the Bullet Comes 'Round, which is a fanmix that I made last year for Generation Kill. I've been sharing music for many many years now. Made more mixes than you can count on your fingers and toes and my fingers and toes, but this one is unquestionably my favorite. The flow, the message. If you ever think what kind of music does X like? this mix will give you the answer: Everything.

My Favorite Story That I've Written
Speaking of favoritest, I know I said it when I posted it, but I've been writing for a not inconsiderable amount of time and I'm pretty prolific and out of every story I have ever written Son is on a Midnight Run Like DeNiro or We're All Just Train Wrecks Waiting for the Crash (Southland) is bar none my favorite story. Cross fandom. If I'm only ever remembered for one story I hope it's this one.

My Favorite Story Under 15,000 words That I Wrote.
I like getting into fandoms at the very beginning. I like getting in there before fanon has cemented into something implacable, and if that's not possible, then god knows I love taking charge of characters that nobody else gives a shit about. I think the greatest example of this is Theodore Nott, who is such a throw away character in Harry Potter that he's mentioned one time in one book and then never heard from again. But in 2004 J.K. Rowling mentioned that she'd once had plans for Theodore. That he had a history with Draco, but that he didn't really like Draco, and one throwaway line turned into The Thousandth Man Verse, which is the story of Theodore Nott and all those Slytherins that are maligned by the masses. That entire universe is about Theodore and Neville Longbottom, but it's the story that made me think about what it means to be a Slytherin in the first place that I chose. Don’t Be Shallow

My Favorite GK Stories
When [livejournal.com profile] yuletide came around last winter, my only desire in life was a) to write Generation Kill fic and b) for other people to write Generation Kill fic. And lo was the fandom gifted with many many tremendous things. And so I say unto you if you are just tuning in: read [livejournal.com profile] alethialia's The Temptation of the LT, which is so good I'm still sending her feedback on it eight months later (trufax, you can ask her), [livejournal.com profile] sparky77's On How Sergeant Colbert is Nothing At All Like Winnie the Pooh, and Other Important Lessons That Can Be Learned While Observing the Sergeant Laying under a Jeep, because she undoubtedly has the best Ray voice in GK and [livejournal.com profile] lunasky's Free Falling Through the Nighttime Sky because that is how you write a love story about guys. To this pile I would also undoubtedly add [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl's Itch in Your Veins, which has the distinction of being so gorgeous I wanted to smash my keyboard over my own head. (I also recommend anything I've previously listed here)

Other Miscellaneous Recommendations (Because I can)
1. Tom Ricks Blog, for anybody who might like to actually hear an informed opinion on the war. There is nothing hotter than a man who knows what the fuck he's talking about and not just forming words out his ass. (Feed here [livejournal.com profile] tomricks)
2. [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy's Covered in Rain, or How We Really Said Goodbye, a story written for [livejournal.com profile] slodwick's 1000 word challenge, which almost three years later still makes me go emo.
3. SOUTHLAND. Which has started airing repeats in its new Friday 8pm slot. If you only listen to one recommendation I make, listen to this one. Watch this show. The first four episodes are up now
4. The Best Part of Breaking Up by [livejournal.com profile] fryadvocate, which has the distinction of being the first and only Barbie story I've ever read (not including coloring books naturally). And did I mention it's from Ken's POV?
5. The Wire. As evidenced by the listing above, I'm not really into fluffy stories (Bar Ken). I like things that make you feel like somebody just kicked you in the teeth or stomped in your foot or reached in your chest and twisted out your heart. The Wire has the distinction of not only doing that, but teaching you about how and why cities fall apart. About how what you think of as 'urban problems' are universal problems. So goes one, so goes us all.
1. GK fen, Don’t Lick Your Fingers When You Turn the Page by [livejournal.com profile] nightanddaze is a gorgeous, lyrical study of Brad and Nate (and a Sharpie) in and out of theater. Definitely recommended.

1a. ETA: I forgot to mention that I wrote some GK comment!fic over here for A. It's a long thread, but you know how I we are. Keep scrolling, it's worth it. And now there's even more! I really should look into get paid per comment.

1b. ETA #2: Robert Downey Jr. (or as I call him, the first Mrs. Ari Gold) is all about the circumstantial homosexuality. Shocking, people.

2. People who are into cartoons, might be interested to know that Cartoon Network's The Super Hero Squad Show (26x30), which is slated to debut on Cartoon Network in the US this September 2009 will feature the following voice overs: Shawn Ashmore as Iceman, LeVar Burton as Rhodey, Taye Diggs as the Black Panther, Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street) as Dormammu, Greg Grunberg as Ant-Man, Mark Hamill as the Red Skull, Lena Headey as the Black Widow, Tricia Helfer as Sif, Cheryl Hines as Stardust, Wayne Knight as Egghead, James Marsters as Mr. Fantastic, Jennifer Morrison as the Wasp, Adrian Pasdar as Hawkeye, Kevin Sorbo as Ka-Zar, George Takei as Galactus and Michelle Trachtenberg as the Galkyrie, and Stan Lee as the voice of the Mayor of Super Hero City. (Inorite!)

3. Don't you fucking hate it when there's a song you love and you can't find the blasted thing anywhere to buy? Yeah, I totally hate that. Listen to Bill Baylis 'Better Man' here anyway. (It sounds like somebody unearthed Richard Ashcroft and Seal doing a duet with the London Community Gospel Choir Yes, really).

And on the subject of music, apparently it's been quite some time since I provided you lot with new sounds for your ears. My bad! I like to call this mix: Things I Think You Should Be Listening To, So Listen Now, Dammit!* (Good for exercising, driving in the car, grocery shopping, breathing, doing the laundry and in general just chanting along while doing cult activities like creating art and writing porn).

Listen to This

1.Doves 'Jetstream' <-- From 'Kingdom of Rust', which is an album actually worth waiting three years for

4. The Knux 'Bang Bang'

There was no porn in my inbox this morning. That's... that's sad people. What the hell?

Last week, Michael Cudlitz and Ben McKenzie went to the race track to get ready for the start of S2 Southland filming. ROWR. Yesterday, they went to the gun range. Michael. Ben. I, um, this needs porn.

(Yes, Southland is coming back. It has not been cancelled. PLEASE. If you enjoyed Son is on a Midnight Run Like DeNiro at all, watch this series when it airs in the fall.

Michael says I am required to bring him 1 million viewers. Come here and tell me you are watching, so I can add you to my quota. With [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl, [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 and myself I only need... 999,997 more!). ETA: That's another five. Twelve Eighteen! Come guys, only 999,982 left!

c. Brian Williams: I'm Mark Sanford
Jon Stewart: Am I your wife or your mistress?

Yes, It's true. I totally fucking ship Brian Williams/Jon Stewart. I am not ashamed to admit this. They'd probably admit it, too.

[livejournal.com profile] kaneko wrote an absolutely gorgeous Generation Kill story, Tourists. There's something so compelling about the way [livejournal.com profile] kaneko writes Brad and Nate. She manages to transport you into her world with just a few sentences, make you feel everything acutely without overselling anything. Everything she does just feels so damn natural. Encourage her, people. Your fandom requires this.
There's been this mass proliferation of Generation Kill fic lately. But not just fic, really fucking good fic. I am particularly thinking of [livejournal.com profile] kaneko's After That, [livejournal.com profile] alethialia's Pleasure Over Propriety and [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl's Going Nowhere Slowly, all of which are tremendous and you should read them now. Go on. I'll wait.

Okay, now my initial thought about these stories was that they all take place in a post-series place and they all manage to take the series and expound on the events beautifully. And a part of me thinks, "Hey, why can't I do that too? Why the love of the AU? Other people are all over the source material. Shouldn't I just deal with what I'm given? Blah blah blah. Canon vs. crack, blah blah."

And then I get annoyed that a part of me has been warped into thinking my writing can be seen as "lesser" because I'm working outside of canon constraints.

The fact of the matter is that an Alternate Universe is just as valid as a canon.

The fact of the matter is that crack is just as valid as writing non-crack.

Anything that you put your heart and soul and time into is worthy and valid. Don't ever let anybody else convince you otherwise.

Everything we're writing is actually an alternate universe anyway, because unless you are writing for shows (and I know who you are), IT'S NOT HAPPENING. It is called fan 'fiction' for a reason.

You shouldn't automatically discount something just because it's not the norm or not quite what you're used to. And if AUs or crack aren't your thing, that's fine, but don't you dare fucking put someone else down just because they're not adhering to whatever the fuck you think they should. Who died and put you in charge of what's 'worthy'? If you don't like the story because you think it's faulty, that's fine. If the structure or characterization or the comma proliferation put you off, that's understandable. But slighting someone because you think your interpretation is greater and what they're doing is obviously lesser?

Fuck you very much. And shame on you.

The fact of the matter this: If you want something done, do it your damn self. So, if you don't like the way other people are doing it, stop bitching and write your own.

[livejournal.com profile] sparky77, I should've known that 'crack as a lesser art form' thing was going to come back eventually. Like acid-reflux.

And as for me and Generation Kill, the fact of the matter is that other writers write post-series beautifully, and I'm so glad that they do, because I can read their works... but that's just not what inspires me to write.

Now excuse me while I poke at the concept of Freelance War Photographer Brad a bit )
1. Go and vote in The Asstastic [livejournal.com profile] ass_off 09! Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like, a Tournament of Extraordinary Backsides. March Madness but with ASS! Complete with graphics! And make sure you vote for Brad, err Alexander Skarsgard!

2. The most fabulously brilliant [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine explains why the number of comments you recieve on a story/in an entry is not, and will never be, directly proportional to the number of people who have you friended who read your journal. Because let's face it, this is not a friends thing, this is a goddamn reading list and would that LJ called it by what it really is.

3. [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 writes The Incredibly True Story of When El Jay met Dreamwidth.

4. [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl continues to run me out of wanting to write Generation Kill fandom by crafting some of the most honest and brilliant Brad POV possible and rendering me a mess. Read Ergo Sum. At this point I should be happy she's not a crack head or I'd be in the corner, doing shots with Ray and telling him how I introduced the love of my life to another woman, and she was better for him than I was, and damn the whole thing!

5. As of 9:12 this morning 'minions' will hence forth be referred to as "outside contractors paid in porn." So say we all. This contract has been ratified by myself and [livejournal.com profile] antheia

6. Dear Walsh on The Unusuals, You are tres hot. Like if Ben McKenzie ever ages I hope he looks like you. In fact, you really do look like you should be related. Maybe someone will write the X-over where you two are brothers and you come to LA and have blindingly hot sex with Cooper!! *waits* *waits more*
Itch in Your Veins by [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl. Generation Kill. Nate/Brad. Ensemble. NC-17. Timeline in the series.

Generation Kill is a tiny fandom. Our canon is closed. It's war-based. It's not pretty (although our boys are). It's not sweet. Or kind. Or open to mass interpretation. It's hard. And mean. And brutally real. It's offensive and rude and so very honest. It doesn't appeal to a lot of people; it doesn't attract a lot of fans or fanfare. We are very much about word of mouth. We don't have a lot of writers (maybe a dozen). We don't have a lot of artists (one, maybe two), but we have a lot of heart. And when we write this fandom, we try to make our works as epic as our canon. Our version of GK is based on an interpretation of an interpretation of an interpretation, which makes us so far removed, we're pretty much in a cave. But sometimes, in the dark, we make something really beautiful... like this story.

Or, as I said in my comment to the author about Itch in Your Veins:

This is absolutely tremendous... [and] as I carry on reading this now I'm absolutely besotted. This the story that all GK stories dream of being when they get big and start mainlining Ripped Fuel. It's beautiful and poetic and so sharp and smart and astute. God, I'm kind of afraid to read the last section, because then there will be no more. I thought my writing was just in hibernation, but with this, I think it's decided to hang up its spurs entirely. You know sometimes you (okay: I) read a story and you're envious, because you just can't execute in that particular manner, or you're in awe, because it's something you'd never think of? With this story, it seems so definitive that a part of me is like, so...

You know those stories that come along and when you're done you're like, "Well... fuck."

This is that story. It doesn't matter if you don't know the fandom. READ IT. You can thank me after.
I've been on LJ Sabbatical for a bit while I handle some RL business, but I had to pop round and tell everybody that they need to get thee to a nunnery look at the most incredibly beautiful art that [livejournal.com profile] trolleys made for my GK!Thief AU Let's Be Bad Guys.

[livejournal.com profile] trolleys work is nothing short of inspirational (I saw that art with Arthur wearing Glasses and hope to write about it, before say, 2010) and I hope you will encourage her to make more.
My writing has, um, yeah, I think I over worked it in January. So, while I try to coax it out from under the bed, read these stories instead:

Generation Kill

Free Falling Through the Nighttime Sky by [livejournal.com profile] lunasky, which is the story of Brad and Nate falling in love and the story of Nate falling out of love with the USMC. It's long and lush and it's so good I've read it twice, which doesn't really tend to happen ever.

Mastery by [livejournal.com profile] alethialia. In the interest of full disclosure I should point out that I pushed hard for this story, because it's Brad and Nate and porn and somebody gets tied the hell up, which is like, WHOOOO. And I haven't, uh, read it yet, because it's early and I need to go for my run, but it's A and it's porn, so, I mean really, do you even need me to tell you to read it? Okay, read it.

Merlin

Coming Of Age by [livejournal.com profile] astolat is part of her Beltane Cycle. The first part obviously being Beltane, the second part being Coming of Age, and the third pard being That Shall Achieve the Sword. Of the three pieces so far, this is the one that made me have to take deep breaths and then go out for a run afterwards, because I was so moved. Or just in awe.

All the Laughter From Before by [livejournal.com profile] waldorph, which is a story I don't want to spoil for anyone except to say that a) it's spawned my own project, so thank you very much to the author and b) my comment about it has now become the summary, "It's pretty, but very distressing. And lo, all is sunshine and daisies... and death, but what can you do?""

If I was Your Girl by [livejournal.com profile] danegen which is a vid rec. I am very very particular about my vids, sometimes I love the music and not the editing, sometimes I love the editing but not the music. This video, the music was perfect, the editing was sublime and after it was over my entire thought was "Fucking hell, is Merlin really that gay? I have to go rewatch the entire series now, because yes, I've written a few stories, but this is even gayer than I thought it was apparently. All we're missing are the rainbow flags."
I am not a morning person. No, like, for real, SO not a morning person. I had a thought that was going there, but mostly at this point I am all just blathering. Points of interest:

a) I posted my [livejournal.com profile] picfor1000 story, which is Chuck Happiness Was Never Really Our Success, which I apologise madly for if you tried to read it yesterday. There was a bit of a coding snafu, which cut out, like seven lines, which, when dealing with 1000 words, kind of relevant.

b) All Hail Generation Kill people! UK goers, GK started airing on FX like yesterday, so you know, FUCKING WATCH IT. Ahem. And the rest of us are required (yes, by me) to read [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo's Yuletide Resolution story Seagulls and Sand, which takes place when Nate goes to visit Brad in the UK. Ah, GK fen, we do not turn out a lot of work (I have complaints about this), but what we do churn out I enjoy immensely. No lie. Maybe I need to check out the GK-based resolutions myself. Hmmm.

c) Speaking of small but mighty fandoms, Leverage folk, OMG THE ALEC/ELIOT Y'ALL ARE WRITING IS THE BOMB! Naturally, I (biasedly) recommend everything [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 has written (Leverage/O11 people), as well as [livejournal.com profile] with_a_key's work (esp this story), and this story by [livejournal.com profile] merle_p and this story by [livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf.

d) DEAR PRESIDENT OBAMA,

U IZ THE MOST AWESOMEST EVER.

<3,
X

e) Rahm Emanuel continues to be greater than you. (or me). Turns out the NYT has a White House OTP too.

f) I know y'all thought I was bullshitting you about Robert Downey Jr being cracked out in The Kingdom of the Blaggers, but I wasn't. Hell, by this example, I totally didn't apply ENOUGH crack. Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] musesfool

g) We now return you to your regularly scheduled Merlin/Burn Notice*/Psych/Gossip Girl/Leverage/BSG** babbling already in progress.

g2*) Burn Notice people, it is not my imagination that Michael got hotter, is it? Yeah, didn't think so. Also, do we all agree that in the Sam & Michael relationship, Sam is the big brother, which is why he gets to call Michael "Mikey" and nobody else does. Do we have fic about that, because we sure as hell need some.

g3) BSG, people, I don't even have words about the last two weeks. Actually, yes I do : OMGWTFBBQSTOPLYING!
1. I have uploaded my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide story. I am now waiting back to hear about that other story. Yeah, there's more than one. And speaking of stories... Both stories are now live. Good, now I can go play.

2. Thank you to everyone who commented on my first Merlin story last week. Y'all are AWESOME. And yes, I know I've not answered comments, but I could answer comments or work on my next story. I think you'd prefer the latter.

2b. And speaking of stories and awesome [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 decided to make my birthday worth eight days of awesome. Like Hanukah! Only with more porn! Story #3 is Ray the Monk. Yes, that's Generation Kill's Ray. Who becomes a monk. Oh, just read it! AND! AND! Yesterday she did something nobody has ever done. She made Arthur a SPY! That's right! And Merlin is his handler (all leering implied). READ The Incident with The Thingy or Arthur's Adventures in Spying NOW!

3. Speaking of Generation Kill, guess what's coming out on DVD tomorrow, for all those heathens who were all, "I'll get it when it's out on DVD! Stop bothering me! OMG! Stop streaking around with nothing but Kevlar on!" Well, that day is tomorrow, bitches! So get with the program. Did I mention it's $34.99 at Amazon? Just in time for Christmukkahwanzaa! (You know I already have mine).

4. I like Merlin, like a lot a lot a lot. I'd like it even more if RL stopped conspiring to keep me from watching the final 3 episodes. Yeesh. I HAZ NEEDS. I NEEDS AN ARTHUR.

5. Yes, LJ, I know my account is going to be expiring soon. RELAX. I am waiting for payday.

6. LEVERAGE TOMORROW!

Musak plz?

Does anybody have the Cast Soundtrack for Wicked the Musical? I am also in the market for any Akron and the Family you might have (I only have a few singles: I'll be on the Water, Ed is a Portal and Afford).

Also, the new Verve album (now there are a couple of words I never thought I'd be able to type), Fourth is coming out on 26th August. If anybody might be able to help a sister out, well, I would be most appreciative.

Yes, I know, still no porn. Well, I've not written porn at ALL this year, so I have to work up to it. We'll get there. You'll like the trip.

I also have two fic recs:

Psych, Gus/Shawn, Interventions and Other Ploys by [livejournal.com profile] manicjoy, because there is never enough Shawn/Gus in the world, let along quality Shawn/Gus, and this has perfect delivery of what makes them an OTP.

Generation Kill, Fick/Colbert, POV by Beecher, err, Wright. Cats & Dogs by [livejournal.com profile] suaine, because I like Generation Kill, like a LOT, and Nate and Brad deserve to be happy in some time line somewhere.
So, the other day I had this poll where I asked if you lot would rather see Bruce/Harvey Dark Knight porn or Nate/Brad Generation Kill porn. I knew beforehand what the majority were probably going to say, but I was shocked, shocked that more of you aren't on the Generation Kill train. And I thought to myself, "Self, what we really need here is an example of The Pretty to get the fanpeople in line, because there are boys, sweaty, foul-mouthed boys living together in the desert and nobody seems to care! And it's written by David Simon!"

So, for the unitiated let me break it down. Generation Kill is a seven-part HBO miniseries about a Marine Recon division in Iraq at the beginning of the invasion, based on a book by Evan Wright. Real reople, real shit, maybe marginally tweaked for TV. See. That's the basics.

Generation Kill: This battalion is trained to swim or parachute behind enemy lines, not to drive into attacks in Humvees. Their motto is 'Swift Silent Deadly' Also? Massive Pic Spam. SO not dial-up friendly. )
