Three birds, one stone.

I know a lot of people are suffering to no end because of the inclement weather and for that I am sorry. I know people are probably stranded with cabin fever, maybe even without power (in which case, um, damn, son). But as bad as that is the people of Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation have been without power or water or heat for nearly two weeks. No, that's no typo.

I know people have been emptying their pockets for [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti, which just goes to show the power of fandom, but if anybody's got a few dollars left that that they might want to throw this way for Emergency Assistance (or here via Piryx) to help these people or could even just pass the message on to people that might be able to help that would just be amazing.

It will never cease to baffle me as to why people feel the need to read and comment on stories they clearly don't like. Is your 'back' button broken? Do you really think your rudeness is so invaluable? Why would you say 'I didn't really like this story, I don't think you're a really good writer, but whatever, I read it.' Or better yet, "Everybody said this was good, but I just don't agree." I just... what?

Can someone tell me where manners went to die, becuse I'd like to put flowers on their grave?

In less irritating news, since I missed this when it was going on, I'm doing it today:

Today has been declared lurker amnesty day (by me!) Have you read me but never commented? Do you surf by occasionally? Here for the ficinsanity? Say hello! You are under no obligation to ever comment or delurk again, but here's a chance to do so in a post just for that.

Oh, and since this is my all-inclusive post, anybody have the new Sade, Corrine Bailey Rae or Massive Attack albums to share? SCORE! Thanks [livejournal.com profile] sugargroupie and [livejournal.com profile] jcase!

HI! *waves furiously*

Hi! *waves back* Also, I am very *very* excited for IM2, so you know, I think I shall be revisiting with Mr. Stark. :)

Hello! I dropped by in September or so because of your GK fics and just kind of kept hanging around, like that dinner guest you wish would leave, but are too polite to do anything more than drop hints. What can I say? You make some very intriguing posts.

Re: the assholic behavior of some commenters: I don't think you can do a ton about it except accept it and vent later. It's like that dick you cuts you off on the freeway; he's endangering your life, his own, and the 30-odd people in your immediate vicinity, but there's no way of repaying him without you coming off as the bad guy. And, chances are, he's already sped off to cut somebody else off. Sooner or later, he's gonna get smacked like the hand of God, but that tends to come from circumstance, not from someone who got hurt in his little hit-and-run.

Um. That metaphor kind of kidnapped me and drove off, didn't it? I can't seem to jump from the car!

[identity profile] sequinedfairy.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
i currently have two different fics of yours on my ipod, just because i know that they will make any train ride/bus ride/car trip/boring class/waiting of any sort three thousand times better, and they never, ever fail. (i have get some (the gk high school au) and son is on a midnight run like deniro, in case you were wondering.) everything you write is imbued with this sense of reality, which is amazing, because it stays there through ari and transformers aus and anything else you could possibly write. the words you choose say so much in so little, and it's amazing how you make what the characters don't say just as essential and interesting as what they do say.

i haven't friended you (for unknown reasons -- i think you are just too cool), but i check your lj and get very excited whenever there is anything new. so, thank you!

(also, the fic where nate and brad break up? it breaks me. every. single. time. in the best way possible, but still. breaking.)

I've totally missed it since the move though! And I didn't even get to watch the last episode that NBC aired. DVR fail is the worst of all fails.

There's no call for people to say at least half of the things they do in general. I'm the type of person who keeps quiet on the off-chance of offending someone, because I always think it's better to not.

Thank you for passing on the word about the Sioux nation, I get paid tomorrow, so I will be sending some that way. I hadn't heard of this (even though I've been under the weight of the Snow-apocalypse. that's no excuse.) I have been out of work the last 4 days (no work = no pay), but I've been surrounded by heat, food, hot water, and the idea that that privilege doesn't extend to everyone... well, that's not on.

Also, I don't comment enough, but I came here for the awesome meta/commentary on fandom, stayed for the GK, and unbelievably excited by the prospect of more Southland! You last fusion with angels just about hit every kink I had. Thank you...

hey, I'm a lurker too-- I'll just stay quietly over here in the corner!

I love salsa.

But I'm kind of particular about my salsa. I'm constantly trying new kinds off the grocery shelf (I live in Texas, there's a lot of flavors) and I read the list of ingredients, and sometimes there's roasted red peppers in there, and I bypass the jar. And maybe once in a while I miss a type that I'd really like, because the peppers are understated, or someone's finally figured out how to use them in a way that doesn't make them so horribly sweet. And sometimes there's no roasted red peppers, and the salsa looks nice and thick and perfect for spooning on top of tacos, or nice and blended and perfect for chips, and I get a jar. But it's too mild, or too chunky, or too sweet, and I hate it.

I've always figured that you win some and you lose some, and the fault, if there is fault in taking a chance on a limited number of variables, was mine, as opposed to the farmer and the recipe designer and the manufacturer, who obviously had different taste than me. Nobody made this salsa with the intent to offend my tastebuds, they made it to please someone else's. So I take the jar to the office and leave it for the hungry interns downstairs, and I go and try another variety.

And that's how I feel about fanfic.

I found your journal, because I finally gave in a couple weeks ago and watched Generation Kill and then went looking for fanfic (which is exactly what I told myself I wouldn't do and yet, I couldn't stop myself). I always mean to comment on your stories, which I love, but I never actually do it.

Hi

Lurker here. I enjoy reading anything you write, especially your gk and southland. And I get that little 'Woohoo!!' whenever you put out a really long one.

[identity profile] redjacket.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hey! Fancy seeing you here lurking! I am also here lurking.

[identity profile] redjacket.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
De-lurking. Well, I mostly lurk. I think I've commented once or twice. But I came for the swimslash, I think, and stuck around because of everything else but especially the GK fic.

Hi! *waves*

This is my venting now. It's far better than playing tag on the interstate.
Also, don't jump from a moving vehicle, it is most definitely not like they make it in the movies.

South! Land! South! Land! Is it March 2nd yet? I am so excited --- AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! S2 trailer on my TV right now! *claps like deranged seal* Um, yes, quite. Hallo, please don't mind the crack behaviour.

Hello!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I admit when I first started reading this comment I was like, "Why are salsa people spamming my LJ?" and then I realized the analogy you were making. V nice. *nods* For the record I like my salsa chunky and searing like too much wasabi on my sushi. :)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hi! I'm so glad you liked GK :)

Hi! (and thanks :)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Is it time for the Summer Olympics yet? Those are fun! (Yes, I know it's really time for the Winter Olympics, but those don't really interest me).

Also, hi!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
SWEETNESS! (Thanks :)

Thanks for the heads up about the Cheyenne River Sioux. As I donated I realized since I avoid news like the plague, I've come to depend on you as my "injustice alert system." So, I figure that's karma balancing out all the porn (which is what lead me here in the first place!)
