Three birds, one stone.

I know a lot of people are suffering to no end because of the inclement weather and for that I am sorry. I know people are probably stranded with cabin fever, maybe even without power (in which case, um, damn, son). But as bad as that is the people of Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation have been without power or water or heat for nearly two weeks. No, that's no typo.

I know people have been emptying their pockets for [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti, which just goes to show the power of fandom, but if anybody's got a few dollars left that that they might want to throw this way for Emergency Assistance (or here via Piryx) to help these people or could even just pass the message on to people that might be able to help that would just be amazing.

It will never cease to baffle me as to why people feel the need to read and comment on stories they clearly don't like. Is your 'back' button broken? Do you really think your rudeness is so invaluable? Why would you say 'I didn't really like this story, I don't think you're a really good writer, but whatever, I read it.' Or better yet, "Everybody said this was good, but I just don't agree." I just... what?

Can someone tell me where manners went to die, becuse I'd like to put flowers on their grave?

In less irritating news, since I missed this when it was going on, I'm doing it today:

Today has been declared lurker amnesty day (by me!) Have you read me but never commented? Do you surf by occasionally? Here for the ficinsanity? Say hello! You are under no obligation to ever comment or delurk again, but here's a chance to do so in a post just for that.

Oh, and since this is my all-inclusive post, anybody have the new Sade, Corrine Bailey Rae or Massive Attack albums to share? SCORE! Thanks [livejournal.com profile] sugargroupie and [livejournal.com profile] jcase!

Hello! I am here for the fic; mostly heroes, but now gen kill as I've just started getting into that. :) My name's Bethan, btw. :)

Hi! I found you through your awesome GK fics. The AUs in this fandom are beyond words in how good they are.

*sends the Sioux Nation money* WTFFFFFF how have I not heard of that sooner?? Thank you :(

re: reviews -- I've never understood that either. I'd rather just employ my backpage button. I don't mind if someone leaves a comment that is partially positive/partially crit, but an openly "I hated this story" comment, uh, okay? Thanks for your time? You don't get a refund just because you didn't like it.

*shakes head*

Seriously! I read this amazing fic this week where one of the first comments was essentially "This was good, but I disagree with every single part of your characterization and at least one of your major plot points. Also, I saw the ending coming a mile away and the bad guy was totally obvious."

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. I really do think that fic is one of those areas where if you don't have anything nice (or at least constructive!) to say, don't say anything.

Also, I lurk. I used to just wander by occasionally, but I really like your fic and the music and the things you care about (see this post, for example) and [livejournal.com profile] vylit likes you, SO. :D

For your second thing... I think some people have this *uncontrollable* need to spread their negative energy or something. It's coded in their DNA. You have to pity them because you can't fight your genes, dude.

[identity profile] llanoor.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello! I love all your GK stuff, to the point that I've stalked a ridiculous number of even the comments on your posts. Thanks for all the excellent reading material.

*De-lurks.* You're awesome and I always love reading thoughts, stories and commentary! *Re-lurks.*

What's even more odd is that this goes against the unwritten rules of fannish behavior, where silence is implied criticism. Y'know, where a lack of comments means people didn't like. Which in this case would be preferable.

Idek. Some people need to share their special snowflakeness with the class and do so by putting others down. You know how I feel about such people.

Also, that's some bullshit, dude. Poke would have Things to Say.

HELLO! I never comment at all, but ILU! Just so you know.

I found your journal a couple of times in hp but what made me friend you was when I read all of your Ari fic. &hearts

I love the way you make the characters in various fics so real and flawed and messy and I still love them so much. Their is also no real hating on one part of the pairing to glorify the other which makes me feel inspired but what writing can do.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think I've had you on my f-list since you were writing O.C. fic. I'm not sure how I found your journal, or why, but you are the reason I shipped Seth/Ryan like I did. I watched the first season of Southland because of your rec.

People are rude, and I'll include myself in that, because I never really take the time to say that I love your fic, through many, many, many fandoms now. <3

Some people never had a thought they didn't feel the need to share. I don't understand it - and it mostly happens to me on episode recap posts rather than stories, where it's a million times more irritating - but I get a lot of those kinds of wtf? comments, where I'm just like, "Why did you feel the need to tell me that?"

[identity profile] sunfire1216.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm here for the fic - I know I came by the way of alethialia so nice to meet you.

Hi Bethan! *waves*

(Yay for GK!)

Hi! *waves*

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
The article I read said that the Sioux Nation mess has been overshadowed by Haiti and by the Snowpocalypse on the East Coast, which it, sadly, probably has.

As for reviews, if I read something I don't like, I hit my back button. There's nothing wrong with positive/partial crit, but there's a lot wrong with just being a dick just because you feel like the world needs to hear your dickishness (new word FTW!)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 01:38 am (UTC)(link)

....!!!!!

(Yes, that is sadly all I can say about that that doesn't degenerate into insults and bad language). And yes, I whole-heartedly agree with the "If you don't have something nice (or positive) to say, STFU!"

And hai, too! *waves*

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! *high five*

Hi! You are very kind :)

Hi! ::waves:: Came for the Iron Man fic, stayed for the opinions. :)

I admit that sometimes that is true, but [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine did a great break down of why people do/don't comment that I think probably covers that a lot more. I mean there are lots of stories that people love that I don't and lots of things that I love that I'm sure people are all, WTF? And yet, I do not go around pissing in people's pockets over it. *That* is where my problem comes from. If you don't like it for whatever reason, you are entitled, but to spread your hateration? NOT OKAY.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Ari loves you, too!

And thank you for the lovely comment about my characters, that made me very happy to read. :)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
South! Land! South! Land! *runs around waving her Southland flag* Excited what? And you know, I don't mind people not commenting on my fic, but I do take exception to people being deliberately rude, that's just not on in my book.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Exactly. I was just telling someone above, I have no problem with people not liking something or not commenting, nobody likes everything, but I have a big issue with people going out of their way to be rude and dickish.
