It's clear to me that regardless of whatever else happens with anybody else in their lives, they make each other human. There is a connection of respect and trust that they don't get anywhere else. I nearly DIED after that exchange. I love the way that she just calls him on it, and then he's mean and he's sorry, and like, GAH! *draws hearts everywhere*. He really is a serious dick though, I mean wow.
