And in conclusion:

DON + PEGGY 4EVA

Or as [livejournal.com profile] maurheti said, "They would be the fucking power couple, man. Work hard, love hard, fight hard. It'll prolly end badly, but oh, what a ride.

It's clear to me that regardless of whatever else happens with anybody else in their lives, they make each other human. There is a connection of respect and trust that they don't get anywhere else. That to me is the best of all possible worlds. Wait, forget the Voltaire. I save Voltaire for when I'm being sarcastic after having a bad day and this shit was fucking awesome.

I am fine with the BFFs. Hell, until last night I thought of them as brother and sister, but there's just something about their connection that makes me go, "But... it could... maybe..."

Yeah, I guess I see the maybe.

Although honestly, at all the points that I think people were seeing that 'maybe' connection last night, I was picking up friendship ("Aw, that's cute, Don needs a friend like that because he doesn't have any at all") and mothering ([when he laid his head in her lap] "Don wants a mom rn, he's never actually had one").

I am so fucking excited about that goddamn episode I can't restrain myself!!! How they went from the tension to screaming at each other to crying to HOLDING HANDS ahhhhhhhhh, I died. That's all. Also: did you catch the part in the preview where Joan is all "Don't make me come out here again!" Hubba hubba!

JOAN IS MY FAVORITE. Ahem. Yes. Whut?

Oh, Don and Peggy. I am totally all about them being BFFs, but then last night happened and I was like "There's somebody else who knows you. Tell her Dick. Don. Don you are a Dick."

unrelated but related to your interests?

Just read this and it made me think of you. I thought it might put extra bees in your bonnet... sad, angry, gay bees.

Favorite episode ever. Goddamn, I love how she just gives him his bullshit right back, LOVE IT. She is so strong and smart and brave and human and I LOVE HER. And Don, oh Don.

"She was the only person who ever knew who I really am." (paraphrased)

"That's not true."

I nearly DIED after that exchange. I love the way that she just calls him on it, and then he's mean and he's sorry, and like, GAH! *draws hearts everywhere*. He really is a serious dick though, I mean wow.

THAT WAS EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WANTED IN AN EPISODE OF MAD MEN.

Most shows (even the really good ones) start off with a good first series/season and then progressively degenerate a little every successive season, but Mad Man is getting *better*. This season has got to be the strongest one to date. Everybody keeps hitting out of the ball park; it's amazing.

It was a goddamn good episode. They are a total platonic ship for me, but I love how much they understand about each other, and I love Peggy so much for a) being willing to challenge Don, and b) making him seem like a human again, instead of just a giant asshole.

♥ SO GOOD.

I was telling other people that first and foremost I've always gotten a sibling vibe from them: older brother/younger sister, but last night was this glimpse of how awesome they could be and I ended up foaming at the mouth, because finally, they each have someone that can be honest with. Someone who knows all their faults and likes them anyway. That's huge.

I-- you know, it's not even about shipping them sexually (although I wouldn't say no to that), I just want them on the same side and I love any scene the two of them are in together because they're *good* for each other.

And I love any scene with Don and Joan together, because it's sometimes really good to see that he respects her professionalism. That for all Don fails at personal relationships, he does have this ability, this willingness to have respect for the women he knows, to admire and appreciate their strengths and to want them to be strong. He appreciates the lines that Joan draws, rather than disregarding them.

I mean, he fails in his relationships with women (and often drastically so) because he is deeply fucked up, but it's something that makes me still care about him, to want to see him in the same room as these awesome women, and not just for him, but for them too.

Don is just a hot mess. On one hand he seems to have zero respect for women and see them only as sex objects to be used and disposed of or controlled, and then on the other hand if he likes you and respects you, he'll totally move the world for you. In short, a hot contradictory mess. You don't know whether to love him or brain him with a lamp.

If you did both, he'd probably follow you to the ends of the earth.

I love the two of them. I think that Peggy is one of the few women that Don really respects and likes, though he's usually fairly shitty at showing it. And I think they both have a lot of baggage, but that they'd be awesome together. Don needs someone that realizes what a shit he can be and will call him on it.

YES. Exactly. It's like I told [livejournal.com profile] jamjar On one hand he seems to have zero respect for women and see them only as sex objects to be used and disposed of or controlled, and then on the other hand if he likes you and respects you, he'll totally move the world for you.
