Less of a meme and more of a youyou

(gacked from [livejournal.com profile] obsessedmuch)

I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. I read your fic, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal.

My personal goal is: to get over my writer's block, write my Obscure Santa thingy, and perhaps do something illegal this weekend.

I aim high.

My best friend in elementary school was named Chad and I longed to have a name that also appeared on the world map.

heh.

Really?! You longed for a place-name?! Oh, that's fabulous. I can tell you that it's really not all it's cracked up to be, but it makes me happy that you thought it enviable to have a place-name. I'm named (my real name) after a city in Italy; the downsides have been that no one ever knows how to spell or pronounce it, I get a lot of blank stares (or dumb jokes) when I introduce myself, and when I was a kid I longed for a keychain or magnet or something sporting my name. The upside has been that I've always felt a connection to the city and as a result I lived there for two years (of course, when I was there, no one ever belived that was my real name...). All in all, I suppose I'm glad to have the name I do, but it hasn't always been my favorite thing and it adds a little extra pastiche or something to be envied, even retroactively, by a kid. *g*

Aside from the spinach issue (personally I love it) I am an inveterate lurker enticed here by your Smallville fic.

Outside of slash and writing I love to take photographs <e.g. my icon). My lounge floor is half covered by photograph albums or packets of photos that have yet to make their way into albums.

I love taking photos, I used to have a beautiful, old school Nikon, sadly it was stolen and I've kinda lost my desire without it. What are your favorite subjects?

I work as a researcher/administrator, developing computer algorithms. Mostly in the areas networking and computer vision.

I've published research papers, but I've never really written fiction, at all. I'm now trying. OC Slash. Someday I may post some stuff.

I used the first web browser (Mosaic) back when standards for www were still being developed and there was virtually nothing available on the Internet; perhaps this was before Al Gore officially invented it. So, I've been here for a while.

I found you while searching for Smallville slash. I then found your O.C. slash, started downloading eps, and now I'm hooked on "The O.C." (but I've lost interest in Smallville for now).

I'm on lj because you offered me a code after posting anonymously about TA. I decided I liked the community, and it has inspired me to attempt writing. Now lj sucks too much of my time.

I post comments in other peoples journals much more than I write in my own.

I like spinach. I will eat it raw in a salad, but generally prefer when it is cooked into some dish.

Yes! Yes! I remember when it was all unix and gopher and there was none of this pretty www stuff. Clearly I'm showing my age. I too have the waning SV interest, but I'm going strong with The O.C.

I'm here because of your thrall. Remember when you started writing Bobby/St. John? A few of us got sucked into the pairing before we saw the movie. There is an lj-interest called "all zahra's fault" and with OC it holds true, again.

There isn't much to know about me that doesn't have anyhting to do with either my family or the time I spent in the States. Let's see... I used to have discussions about being gay with my mother, before I realized I was, and we were both thinking my brother (aka the womanizer) might be. It's kind of ironic.

I still think you all are nuts, but in a very flattering way.

[identity profile] smonsterbite.livejournal.com 2003-12-11 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
hmm. what to say. My lj name is pronounced the way it looks, not ess-monster.

My two superpowers are recalling the lost thread of a conversation (a skill necessary to survival given how much I digress) and having the Incredible!Changing!Accent. I once spent 3 days (in FL) with a buncha brits and when asked to say something in a southern accent (i'm from NC) I couldn't do it. I'd like to have more control over this, but it's fun.

Hi. I'm Cheryl. I'm not nearly as interesting as some of the other people who've responded.

I find that the best way to get over writer's block is to read books about writing. Usually after a few pages I'll find something that triggers me. Right now I'm reading Robert McKee's Story, which is about screenwriting but really applies to any writing.

In two years my name will appear on your television under the 'written by' credit.

Oh, and I love Low Men in Yellow Coats.

I've been trying but nothing doing. I've finished quite a few books recently though, so at least I'm doing something productive. What will the writing credit be for so I know what to look for?

Hi :)) I don't like spinach unless it is in dips or this flaky pie thing that my friend makes, that has spinach and feta cheese and onion and it's SO GOOD. :D

In public school I managed to lose a friend's boot by buring it in the snow. I also caused a (small) fire by putting three pizza boxes in an oven - one on the top rack, one in the middle, and one on the bottom of the stove (where the element was). Yeah. I'm talented.

My favourite colour is blue and I'm going home today for the holidays. :)!

Also, I don't like spinach unless it's in that dip they make at Applebee's.

I have never been to an Applebee's, what's the dip like? Is it the cheesy one they have at the Cheesecake Factory with the warm tortilla chips? That's good. Also, I've always wanted to shave my head, maybe one day I will, when I don't have to go to work every day.

I took latin in high school.

I don't need sex to have a realtionship. Nor want it most of the time.

I am the begining of the cult following for Dakota Fanning.

I like spinach.

I love Jean Grey. More than boyfriend. Probably because it's an addiction thats been with me since I was five.

I believe in love more than anything in the world.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I took Latin in high school, too, it was good but I've always liked learing different languages. At one time I spoke three. Now I'm exclusively into Babble.

I think sex is great, however, I am notorious for my inability to commit.

Dakota Fanning that seven year old kid? Perhaps you mean Peyton Manning that football player. *j/k*

Spinach is good.

X-Men rock, but I prefer Nate GreyX-Man.

I don't know how I feel about love. I'll get back to you.

I was a bookworm as a kid, Famous Five (even watched the TV series), The Secret Seven, Narnia Chronicles, Enchanted Tales, I read them all and a few more.

My obsession has lasted into adulthood where it's now history books, mystery novels, science fiction, horror (and throw in a few romance novels).

I don't actually remember how I got here but I'm staying for your Smallville and The O.C. fic, and all the other things you say that are interesting. I try to comment on things and stories when I'm around

- I can't go to a bookstore without buying something
- If there is something lying on the floor or the ground, I'll trip on it
- I hate milk so much that watching someone pour it in a glass makes me sick
- I write a lot, but in Finnish and that's why I don't put any of it in my LJ. There aren't a lot of people around here, who understand Finnish.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
- Me too. That's why I have to stay away.
- I've heard of this ailment before. Tripitus.
- Okay, what did milk ever do to you?
- Say something in Finnish. I don't think I've ever seen written Finnish. (Also, you have to include a translation and a pronunciation key).

I'm very demanding, aren't I?

I friended you originally because of your wonderful HP fic, but have stayed for all the wonderful fandoms you write: OC, Ocean’s Eleven, pretty much everything.

I’m still in high school, feel incredibly short most of the time, and have a slight Southern accent. I have an ass fetish and also secretly habor a kicker fetish.

And now, you know too much.

I talk entirely too much, but this is obvious. I still have an unhealthy amount of appreciation for princess dresses, I think. I often do confuse myself. I want to live in a cottage by the beach, probably alone, and I still think that'd make me happy. It'd take me awhile to get tired of just reading and writing all the time and doing nothing else. Especially if a large percentage of the reading was porn. I crush on like, every 10th person I see that's cute, it's kinda scary. I'm a spaz, I really am. I sometimes think I like words more than people. I like lists but I never make them for useful purposes. If I was petite & pretty I would -so- be a slut :> :>

I friended you because, despite the fact that I was strenuously trying to avoid all "O.C." fic, you sucked me in with "Telegraph Avenue" and I'm a better woman for it. My favorite form of spinach is in a spinach and crabmeat dish I had at a tapas restaurant once, though I used to eat it by the pound as a toddler and preschooler. Perhaps the most notable fact about me right now is that I'm studying to be a teacher.

Um, let's see...I popped over here for your O.C. fics, and stuck around when I decided there was something freakishly familiar sounding about 'zahra' and soon realized that I was already a huge fan of your hp and x-men fics.

A few things about myself..um...

I'm mildly *cough* obsessed with hockey. And not just any hockey, the 'Nucks. Seriously, ask me any hockey fact from the now and I'll be able to pop the stats right out. This is particularly strange considering that up until two years ago I lived in a place that didn't have a hockey rink for a 1000 miles or so, and the only hockey player I'd ever heard of was Gretsky. And that's only because I'm obsessed with The Mighty Ducks movies.

I can actually honestly claim that I like all types of music, though not all artists. I'm a triple citizen of the US, Canada, & Australia, and can't stand it when people stereotype any of them.

My friends find it strange when I lock myself in a room, turn my headphones up to their highest point, and run back and forth across the room talking to myself. But other than that, I'm really a very boring, totally guillable and predictable gal.

kellyerielf

Oh yeah, I've never actually had spinach before. It's green and I usually avoid food that's green.
