Three birds, one stone.

I know a lot of people are suffering to no end because of the inclement weather and for that I am sorry. I know people are probably stranded with cabin fever, maybe even without power (in which case, um, damn, son). But as bad as that is the people of Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation have been without power or water or heat for nearly two weeks. No, that's no typo.

I know people have been emptying their pockets for [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti, which just goes to show the power of fandom, but if anybody's got a few dollars left that that they might want to throw this way for Emergency Assistance (or here via Piryx) to help these people or could even just pass the message on to people that might be able to help that would just be amazing.

It will never cease to baffle me as to why people feel the need to read and comment on stories they clearly don't like. Is your 'back' button broken? Do you really think your rudeness is so invaluable? Why would you say 'I didn't really like this story, I don't think you're a really good writer, but whatever, I read it.' Or better yet, "Everybody said this was good, but I just don't agree." I just... what?

Can someone tell me where manners went to die, becuse I'd like to put flowers on their grave?

In less irritating news, since I missed this when it was going on, I'm doing it today:

Today has been declared lurker amnesty day (by me!) Have you read me but never commented? Do you surf by occasionally? Here for the ficinsanity? Say hello! You are under no obligation to ever comment or delurk again, but here's a chance to do so in a post just for that.

Oh, and since this is my all-inclusive post, anybody have the new Sade, Corrine Bailey Rae or Massive Attack albums to share? SCORE! Thanks [livejournal.com profile] sugargroupie and [livejournal.com profile] jcase!

Cabin fever. Bored. I almost broke myself removing snow off sidewalk and car. Only to have it build up again.

I love Sade new song, Soldier of Love.

Wow, I see a link up there for Sade. But you know what, I need to give Sade some love (in the pocketbook.)

I just happened to surf by and I feel like we may share some common interests and/or activities. Will you be my friend? Check yes or no.

HAI. I will be your friend. I feel like we could create awesome crack together. At least that's what Ray told me last night at the bar.

I can't even remember which fic of yours it was that I first read, but I have a sneaking suspicion it might have been swimslash? But you and you alone got me into Generation Kill and Southland. I am catching up on the latter now on TNT and loving it. And at this point, I think I'd watch or read just about anything you pimped.

(Btw, did you recognize Ferrari guy, the rich kid, from the first episode (and that one with Tom Sizemore) as Oliver from The OC? Just in case you wanted more fuel for OC/Southland crossovers.)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Swimslash! I had no idea people were so into that; I had a lot of fun with it I have to confess. And yes, I did recognize Oliver in the pilot of Southland, nasty dye job and all :)

I was linked here I think for the awesome GK fic and recs but I stayed because your entries are usually elicit a mix of humour and 'huh' out of me. Keep up the wonderful writing!

a. thank you for the link.

c./3. Hi there! I don't comment much. I can't remember any more what made me start reading your journal – it was either your Southland fic or [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma mentioning you over margaritas, but regardless, I owe you for getting me into Generation Kill, so thank you for that. :)

Hi, I adore [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma, so any time she endorses me I'm touched. (And I'm flad you're enjoying GK! I love GK)

Hello,

I come back and read your GK stuff all the time because it's astoundingly brilliant, and you bring the best Broken!Brad ever. (Hi alliteration who let you in here.) I'm particularly fond of, um, everything? Seriously I just tried to go back through the GK tag to pick my top three and spent four hours to re-reading. Not that I would consider that anything but a great use of time. This is why I don't comment, I sound like a creepy stalker loon, and completely fail to make sense. The transformers-AU is perfectly executed, and the multiple stories you've set in the post-cannon are spectacular, and I get stuck between calling "It May Be Heart and Fist and Human Voice" or"Caelum non animum mutant qui trans mare currunt" my favourite love story ever, in fan or pro writing. And then I have to go back and read "Sir, Not to Get Homoerotic About This..." for the sheer power of the last scene.

Also, your enthusiasm got me watching Southland, and now I'm pissed off because even with the ultimate digital cable package currently in the household, we have no access to TNT, so I'm going to have to download the new stuff instead of watch it properly, and that sucks, 'cause it's a show I'd be willing to watch with the adds to support. It doesn't hurt that your fic for that series is some of the hottest stuff I've ever read.

Probably I will go back to not talking after this, because by the time I'm finished reading your work I tend to think all the good words have been used and I don't have a clapping-hands gif I can post. But since the amnesty is here it seemed a good time to join the chorus of voices proclaiming that you're awesome. 'Cause the chorus is right, and you are.

Can someone tell me where manners went to die, becuse I'd like to put flowers on their grave?

The body of manners was never found, and so there is no grave. However, some people do maintain memorials tucked politely out of the way. Unfortunately these tend to be vandalized on a regular basis.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
You are adorable and have totally made my day. You know that right? Please feel free to ignore me while I shamelessly roll around in this comment and give myself cheap thrills. What? I do these things from time to time. The economy is in the tank, I have to get my kicks where I can!

Seriously, though, I am very touched that you've enjoyed my stories so much and I really hope you get to see S2 of Southland, because I expect it to be AWESOME with naked Cooper on top. Ohhhh, Naked!Cooper...

The body of manners was never found, and so there is no grave. However, some people do maintain memorials tucked politely out of the way. Unfortunately these tend to be vandalized on a regular basis.

Goddamn vandals! I shall go light a candle in the kitchen in spirit.

Also, please feel free to drop by any time, my LJ is always open :)

I came across your journal when I was bingeing on Merlin fic last year. Then you got me hooked on Southland, and then I cracked and watched Generation Kill this summer after hearing you gush. I've been an avid reader/lurker ever since. I comment sporadically only because I'm a complete space case. It's definitely not for lack of appreciation. Your writing is fantastic and amazing. Every story just sucks me right in and you make AUs that should not work for Generation Kill not only work, but seem completely believable and AWESOME.

In short: You Rock.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I have totally seen you around! Thank you so much for the lovely comment and I'm so glad you're enjoying yourself.

[identity profile] eystri.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Delurking to say thanks for the heads up! I donated what I could and I'm really appalled that I (like many others) had NO idea that this happened and that next to nothing was being done to help thousands of citizens in our OWN COUNTRY. Obviously Haiti still needs our help too, but we don't always have to look that far from home to find people in need. This also brings the Snowpocalypse I'm in the middle of into perspective.

Anywho, I'm also here for fic :) You single-handedly got me into both GK and Southland, so thank you for that.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the donation! And I hope you're enjoying Southland and GK!

uh, Hi, yet another delurker. I just want to say thanks for all the awesome fic and getting me onto GK and Southland.

[identity profile] romancandles.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Do I qualify as a lurker these days? It's because I haven't seen Southland or Generation Kill! I'm like "Oh shit, need to catch up," but then I get sidetracked by my shitty USA and TNT shows. Anyway, HI!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Southland is repeating on TNT right now! Tuesday! 10pm! WATCH EEEEEEEEEET!

Hi! I love your fics. Since English is not my first language, it's a little bit difficult to express my feeling about your awesome fics. But... Yep, I should've let you know how much I love stories that you wrote. Thanks for all your fic and GK stuff. You're such a great writer. :)

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You are very sweet, thank you!(And it's okay if English isn't your first langugage, I welcome everybody, even if I don't understand what you're saying :D

[identity profile] londondrowning.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, that is the first most annoying kind of feedback. The second most annoying kind is "Wow, I really hate this character/this pairing/this fandom, but this was still really good!" Um, well, obviously I really like this character/pairing/fandom, why are you all up in my business assaulting my taste? If you don't like a friggin' story, just don't comment, holy jeez.

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Double word!

Delurking is one of my slightly-late-only-myself-knows New Years resolution, so this seems like a good time to get started. So, hello! I may have commented at some point, but if so it was a long time ago. I've been reading your lj for years, I think. Looking back, I want to say that I first came here to read your OC fics? But I've definitely been most influenced by your HP stories, specifically in the way you've made me care about so many characters who were previously only offhand references. I haven't seen GK or Southland, but you definitely make me want to...

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I am loving hearing from all these OC/HP-era people. Man, those were the days. Wayyy back in the day. I've clearly been doing this too long. :D Anyway, hello! (And I hope you'll give GK and Southland a chance, they are AWESOME).

I read your journal for the HP fic (Neville!!!!) and stop by occasionally for the non-fic posts and the music since we're in different fandoms now. But still &hearts for your fic even when I don't read it; your stories obviously make people happy.

I must admit, I've been lurking for a few weeks now, but I've only written one comment. My mistake, since your fiction - - fun, sexy (oh, wow, soo sexy), sometimes heart-wrenching & always, totally quotable (as in, I wish I could steal some of this wit for my real life) - - is incredible. Your AU work is spectacular, the Layla series is a delight and The Messenger... THAT I love secretly --> It's not that I want to see bad things happen to Brad/Nate ALL the time, but your occasional dips into the angst pool are more than welcome; you do it so well! and go right for the heart in a beautiful, surprising way. Quite simply: you've gained a faithful reader & I'd rec your work to anyone. Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your imagination and unknowingly introducing me to the GK fandom (your fiction was the first I read).

PS. If you run across any naysayers in the future, just assume (correctly) that they've lost their minds... or simply have no taste :) uhem! so, after that ramble, i'm darting away... calling over my shoulder, "your fic is great!"

What a lovely comment; I'm so pleased that you enjoy my GK writing and that you are enjoying the fandom! :)

p.s. I like The Messenger, too.

[identity profile] bgaleb.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 03:55 am (UTC)(link)

Have you read me but never commented?
YES!
Hi! I read stories in GK fandom, Southland and some other fandoms but I practically never comment, not because I do not like the stories ( I LOVE them!!) but just because I feel shy? By the way, I did not even know about Gen Kill and Southland before I read your stories, and they are the reason I watched them and deeply fell in love! And I can’t be grateful enough for that! Thank you so very much!

P.S. Concerning “bad” comments - my guess is that some people just produce a certain amount of venom every day and must spray it, lol!! Anyways they are outnumbered by true fans who sends good wishes and love your way!!

[identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
For the record shyness is okay, but I'm vey glad that you have gotten into GK and Southland and are enjoying them!

I think I found you through a meta_fandom link, or someone's roundup of posts, and like the way you think. I've stayed more for that than the fic, though I admit I now want to watch GK and get to know these men you write about, so- good job!

Lurker of the fic. You are an amazing writer and you were the one that got me into gen kill, for which I owe you (and the journal who rec'ed you, but I never found them again) an incredible debt.

Rudeness aside, I do sometimes feel motivated to comment on fics I dislike, if something in them actually offends me. Particularly when it's something I see as an unhealthy world-view. And I often comment on the fics that have potential, but aren't there yet, because it breaks my heart when people are complacent and never develop their talent. However, I always try to be polite when I do so.

I know lurker amnesty day is long past by now but since this post is still current... sort of...

Hello there! Here for the fic mostly. I thinks it's been ages, wow, years even. I don't even remember which fandom. It's been *that* long. So long that I no longer remember if it was fiction or social commentary that got me here in the first place.

But yeah... I'm mostly here for the fiction now. A fan of so much of your writing, most recently Merlin, Southland & GK of course. (Your praise is actually the reason I started watching those last two. So *thank you*.)

Outside of Buffy fandom when I first started out I tend to not treat LJ as an interactive medium but I thought I should after so long. So.. HI!
