The OED word of the Day is: narcokleptocracy, n

That's right -- nark-co-lept-toe-crassy.

Apparently it's British in origin and means An elite or dominant group of people whose wealth derives from the trade in illegal drugs and other organized criminal activities; a government dominated by such a group. Cf. NARCOCRACY n. 2.

According to 1981 Newsweek 23 Nov. 79/1 Together they form what one diplomat calls a ‘narcokleptocracy’ reaping a fortune from cocaine and other contraband.

Now why, you ask, does hackthis find this so amusing? Well, let's think about it.

1. 'Narco' can mean narcoleptic, i.e falling asleep randomly, but it can also refer to 'narcotic', meaning drugs, the ATF, S.W.A.T., jailtime and all kinds of bad shit.

2. 'Klepto' generally means someone who likes to take things that doesn't belong to them.

3. '-cracy' generally refers to a form of government like democracy, theocracy, some other 'ocracy.'

4. When you put this together, you get drug dealers who steal stuff, run a country and are likely to fall asleep on the job.

5. This sounds very Ocean's 11 to me.

6. It's either that or write about the government.

In other news, did you guys know that there's boy-kissing in Jeff Buckley's video for Last Goodbye? At least I think it's boy kissing. Obviously I will have to look again (for like the twenty-third time). Please excuse the prattling, part of my 1000th man verse file has locked me out, and I'm trying to keep from having a rage blackout. I think I have to write porn or something.
