I don't know if you lot are actually using these recs anymore, but I am, so I shall keep at it until I cannae be bothered anymore.

Misc

Fourteen Actors Acting by The New York Times -- The Times calls this a video gallery of classic screen types. I won't lie I immediately went here for Jesse Eisenberg doing what I'm pretty sure was Mark's mental reaction when Eduardo froze the bank account (watch his face very closely). What I really fell in love with was Noomi Rapace. Cause I love the fuck out of Noomi Rapace. She is Lisbeth Salander and this abomination that Hollywood is about to thrust upon the world makes me reach for the Maalox. (Also, this has Robert Duvall, Chloe Moretz, Vincent Cassel and some dude named Matt Damon. I'm a fan.)

You can go strangle yourself with that yellow ribbon, or, here is what I want you to do instead of shaking my hand by A. Scout-Sniper -- This is a piece written for Tom Ricks' blog (The Best Defence) by a Marine veteran who served four tours in OIF and OEF, wherein he talks about the draft and the current make-up of an "all-volunteer" military. You don't have to agree with all of it, or most of it, hell you may disagree with everything he says, but I definitely think it's worth reading if only to increase your awareness because this is your war too, and how do you know where you sit if you don't know where you stand?

ETA: There is a Fuck Yeah Ryan Gosling and none of you bitches told me? You're all fired! Except for [livejournal.com profile] antheia. Oh, and uh, don't forget the part where Himself actually talks about the FYRG tumblr to MTV. Yeah, bitches. \o/

Inception

And I Feel Fine by [livejournal.com profile] amazingly_me -- Arthur's having problem with four little words. And no, the words aren't, "Is that suit Dunhill?"

Chibi!Yusuf by [livejournal.com profile] pinstripesuit -- Yusuf. Nuff said.

The Delphini Trials by [livejournal.com profile] atomicskull -- [livejournal.com profile] loobeeinthesky made art for this story and after seeing the art all I could think was, "WTF is happening here?" And then I read the story and was utterly blown away.

One of the things I really appreciate about [livejournal.com profile] atomicskull's writing is that it's clear and concise. You know: who, what, where, when, how and why. I appreciate that. I'm not a fan of 10 words when 2 will do. I don't need to read five paragraphs about the sheets or the dry rot in the walls and the limescale in the tea kettle. I believe one line will do. I'm a fan of someone taking a concept and making is so plausible that for a moment you have to stop and think, "Jesus is this where we're headed, or are we already there?" Depending on who you talk to, or what religion you believe you may already be there. (Yes, I was watching The Last Enemy this week, why do you ask?)

Skin Deep by [livejournal.com profile] starlingthefool -- Eames used to be a thief. Now he's on hiatus and running a tattoo shop south of Market (San Fran). Ariadne is his apprentice. Arthur is a client. Modigliani. Magritte. You know if there's art I'm there. Ceci n'est pas une pipe.

Sherlock

But Love Is A Voice On The Wind by Snow -- Mycroft is of the opinion that if he leaves it to Sherlock things will never happen. He's probably right. There's something about Mycroft that I find incredibly enjoyable, so I'm a bit of a sucker for stories where he plays matchmaker. Or when he's just cleaning up after Sherlock's messes. Or when he's just, you know, being Mycroft.

Touchy, Feely by [livejournal.com profile] basingstoke -- Some people are very into touching; some people aren't. No matter the circumstances.

A Version of Normal by [livejournal.com profile] dark_aegis -- The concept of "normal" has always left me a bit aggrieved and irate, because who is to decide what's normal. Who created this Bell Curve and what gave them the right to set it? Who are you to say what my normal is? Who am I to say what your normal is. Normal's just a word, a concept created to keep people eternally dissatisfied with what they have. It's like Valentine's Day that way -- except it wasn't made by Hallmark.

The Social Network

Pilea involucrata by [livejournal.com profile] fledmusic -- I've read a lot of anthropomorphic fic in my day; I think my first anthro story was a love affair between curtains and a sofa. ([livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine did you write that?) I digress. Out of all the anthropomorphic fic I've read (and I really did love the PC/Mac wars), this is hands down my favorite. [livejournal.com profile] fledmusic took a concept that is utterly insane and should never ever ever work, especially in such a place as The Social Network, and left me gasping on the floor in hysterics. What would happen if Eduardo Savarin turned in a plant? Now with awesome story art by [livejournal.com profile] ellegen

And in conclusion: 26 days until Southland *\o/*

Video of the Week

A little something from me to you. Hope everyone's having a good start to their week.

Inception

How to extract when you are four inches tall and made from felt by [livejournal.com profile] fera_festiva -- Felt!Arthur and Eames. Daleks! Lego guns!

Now We're Cooking by [livejournal.com profile] red_rahl -- It's the holidays and Eames is going to cook for Arthur, dammit.

Sherlock

The Curious Case of the Heart by [livejournal.com profile] chibirhm -- Pretty much all the Sherlock fic I've read to date is from John's POV and understandably so. Getting inside Sherlock's head cannot possibly be easy and you clearly have to be willing to commit if you're going there. [livejournal.com profile] chibirhm committed and went there, and it's beautiful.

Homemaking by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock --John has Sherlock; Harry has Clara. Guess who turns out to be the scarier option?

Light Our Own Fires by [livejournal.com profile] black_eyedgirl -- From the AVENWiki: Demisexual - is a person who does not experience sexual attraction until they form a strong emotional connection with someone, often in a romantic relationship. The term demisexual comes from the orientation being "halfway between" sexual and asexual. In general, demisexuals are not sexually attracted to anyone of either gender; however, when a demisexual is emotionally connected to (usually in love with) someone else, the demisexual experiences sexual attraction and desire to the same degree as a sexual person, but only towards the specific partner(s).

L'instinct suffit by [livejournal.com profile] kate_lear -- I'm meant to be learning French in the new year. I really really really hope my lessons go like these. Just saying.

The Perils of Urban Warfare by [livejournal.com profile] phantomjam -- You don't choose who you love. This can make life rather difficult if you're in therapy. At least if your name is John Watson.

When The Bough Breaks by [livejournal.com profile] alice_day -- Molly's a witch; John is a baby and Sherlock is totally not down with this program. Even though John is the cutest kid on earth. Complete with amazing art by [livejournal.com profile] sadynax

Totally Biased Rec of Awesome \o/: [livejournal.com profile] aredblush was kind enough to make me this adorable Sherlock doodle for my birthday and it is lovely and I'm so very touched. Thank you, bb!

The Social Network

and that's why we're still waiting by [livejournal.com profile] figletofvenice -- Everybody knows that Mark Zuckerberg took the entire Facebook staff to see the movie. How would you feel about seeing someone else's interpretation of your life?

Bugfixes in the Redesign by [livejournal.com profile] black_eyedgirl -- Mark and Eduardo get trapped in an elevator post-lawsuit. Dear The Social Network Fandom, You are really bringing the A Game. And it is AWESOME. \o/

the farther I fall I'm beside you by [livejournal.com profile] therealw -- I think Marilyn is awesome. Andrew Garfield ships Eduardo/Mark. The author ships being awesome. It's a lot of awesome things that go awesome together. Prepare to be amazed and fall in love all over again.

Video of the Week

Andrew Garfield singing The Bed Intruder Song. Blame [livejournal.com profile] figletofvenice

Beeb Docudrama about Vincent Van Gogh (wherein Vincent is played by Himself, Benedict Cumberbatch). Thank [livejournal.com profile] pearljamz

Week Two of Diversified Recs. 22 recs in Inception, The Social Network and (of course) Sherlock (BBC 2010) for art, fic, primers and vids. Plus some bonus shiz cause that's how I roll.

Friday Recs. The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once (Einstein) )
It's Wednesday. Let's do Friday Recs! \o/ What can I say -- I see no reason to postpone the sharing of awesome.

This is the first week I'm attempting diversification of Friday Recs, we'll see how it goes. I had to start drafting this fucker yesterday, so don't say I never did anything for you. This week's recs are REALLY REALLY art heavy (*fist pump*) cause that's what I'm feeling right now. Plus, there's so much Sherlock fic to go through I'm not even sure how to go through it apart from just reading until my eyeballs fall out. This is broken up in three sections by fandom: Inception, Social Network, and, of course, Sherlock. And videos. Love the videos. And yes, it is long enough to warrant a cut. Finally. )

Also, I have been most remiss in not wishing the most beloved United States Marine Corps a very happy birthday. The older you are the hotter and more competent you get! \o/
1. I have a new saviour. His name is Benedict Cumberbatch. [livejournal.com profile] sparky77, [livejournal.com profile] maurheti and I will now be High Priestesses at The Most Holy Temple of the Cumberbatch. If you have need of our services, please come see us in the garden and we'll be happy to talk about menswear ad nauseum. Okay, I will talk about clothing, the other two will talk about something else. JUST LOOK! )

Photos from Oh No They Didn't. If there are icons for this, PLEASE GOD SHOW ME WHERE THEY ARE; I HAVE NEEDS. This is the first time in my life I've thought, "Why is the model in there, she's not nearly hot enough for him and is totally bringing down the total hotass quotient."

2. For those of us who were a little bit less than happy with the outcome of this season's Project Runway. So was Tim. Love you, Tim!

3. I am not particularly interested in Inception right now. Maybe I'm burned out. Maybe I'm seriously over it and over fandom and only want to read stories about Sherlock and Watson (I won't lie, when Benedict said in his interview 'Sherlock's asexual' all I could think was 'ohhhhhhhh, that's where that came from in fandom'. Sherlock fandom writers know how to bring in the schooling. \o/)

Maybe the Inception DVD will come out and I'll fall in love all over again.

Whatever the case, maybe I'll write something sprawling and heart-felt tomorrow based on [livejournal.com profile] loobeeinthesky's Inception art; maybe I never will again. I don't know; right now I don't really give a shit.

If you're here only for Friday Inception Recs those may not happen again. They may wind up being only about Sherlock and The Social Network. Feel free to leave at any time. You don't need my blessing or amnesty. There's no contractual obligation for 99.99% of you. We're all grown-ups even when we're not acting like it.

But, for what it's worth, here are what's left in my rec folder:

Again & Again by [livejournal.com profile] sorrynotsorry -- Arthur's an escort. Eames wants to make him a better offer.

Chasing the Rising Sun by [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub -- Arthur is a Weimaraner puppy; Eames is a Australian Shepherd puppy. Considering how high-strung Weimaraners tend to be, that's pretty perfect casting.

Dream-Share Tactical Employment procedures. by darkknightrises -- These are fucking amazing, holy fucking shit.

I Think We're Alone Now by [livejournal.com profile] nami86 -- This is Arthur/Ariadne art and I'm utterly besotted by this artist's style and her attention to detail. There are totems on the nightstand. She almost makes me wish I wrote Arthur/Ariadne, but it's not my thing, just as Arthur/Eames isn't the artist's thing (she's not gonna do it, don't bother asking). But it's always nice to appreciate awesome for the sake of awesome.

Naked Lunch by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- Eames makes a wish; Arthur has to live with the consequences. It's quite the wish.

Everybody's read [livejournal.com profile] gyzym's coffee shop!AU; it's a game changer. It may be the biggest fic in Inception fandom; I'm pretty sure it's the best received and talked about for a reason. I'm not overtly recommending that one (it's obviously warranted, but well past superfluous). I'm recommending We Must Unlearn the Constellations to See The Stars which is Robert Fischer fic. There's some Robert/Saito, but it's not really about that, it's about being who you want to be and not who the world or your parents or society thinks you should. (But I suppose the coffee shop fic is about that, too; it's a thing).

And of course the folder dump wouldn't be complete without this bad ass video from [livejournal.com profile] orlisroses29 featuring Massive Attack's Inertia Creeps. I love Massive Attack. Shocking, I know.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE MOST BELOVED [livejournal.com profile] sparky77! I am totally not late I already told her twice yesterday. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] alethialia for my virtual car, I love cars! And virtual gifts! Also, [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl declared yesterday/today International Day (ish) of Fangirl Snuggles. So, to all my fangirls (and boys) especially the ones who keep this train on the tracks and not careening all over the countryside, from Porn Swat to all my Inception brainiacs, this one's for you ♥ Having said that though, you all have no idea how close I came to saying fuck it this week. I am over it like a motherfucker.

Art Recs

Tom in Ink by amazzyblaze -- IT'S PURPLE. And I don't even mean that in a "and you should call your doctor directly way." This is Tom-based piece of art and it's so lovely. And purple. And awesome. Enjoy.

South Park Does Inception by fyinceptionmen -- SOUTH PARK DID INCEPTION AND NOBODY TOLD ME?! /o\ I don't even watch South Park but I'd've watched it for that. What is wrong with you people? Why are you failing me? Don't I give it to you on the regular every week? Don't you love me anymore? Sadness and woe! Actually, I'm just bullshitting you cause [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront covered for all of you and hooked everybody up.

Guide Recs

Judaism: A (Very Very Very) Basic Guide by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym -- So, see the thing about writing about religion is that if you're going to write about it, maybe you should do some research. Basic stuff, you know, like that Hanukkah is not Christmas. Like Jewish boys have a bris/Brit Milah eight days after they're born (but Englishmen for the most part, NOT CIRCUMSIZED. That means foreskin). And Jews? Well, do not believe in Jesus (Unless it's Jews for Jesus, which is a whole other deal).

Johanirae's Guide to Architecture by [livejournal.com profile] johanirae -- One of the things I really love about Inception fandom is how knowledgeable everyone is. How there is always some new thing to learn, some new book to talk about, some place I have never heard of before, some technique that makes me go, what now? What I really appreciate is when people who have that knowledge don't run around shrieking U IZ DOIN' IT WRONG!, but instead say, "Um, hey, just you know a couple things to keep in mind."

Fic Recs

breath of God by [livejournal.com profile] veritas_nescio -- [livejournal.com profile] veritas_nescio like [livejournal.com profile] bauble, who I talk about below, is another sterling example of how you don't have to say a lot to have a lot going on in your story. This is a story about first kisses, but first kisses aren't always the way you'd think they are, or the way they should be. Doesn't make them any less valid or any less beautiful. Some times they're even more so for all their "out of the ordinary"ness.

Dog Days Are Over by [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub -- So [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub has been talking about this story for fucking ever. Like Leo hadn't even hit puberty when she started writing this. Just kidding. This is a story about being a teenager, again. I just -- no. There is no goddamn way. I don't give a shit what you promised me at the end of it I wouldn't do that again. Not that being an adult is any great shakes, but still, legal to drink. And various other things. I digress. I almost disowned [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub for the skinny jeans mention, but it all turned out beautifully and right and it's lovely and lyrical and when it was over I was like this ♥ ___ ♥. No, for real, that was my face.

The End of Science by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- This week was so good for the Yusuf and Ariadne fic that I just want to roll around in it and slather myself in honey and stick the pages to me and run through the streets shrieking with glee. Yeah, I said it! It's awesome. It's [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis would you expect anything less? Exactly. Also, is next week going to be Robert/Saito week or Ariadne/Cobb with a side-dose of the kids, cause I'm down for either one of those, just saying.

The Escort by [livejournal.com profile] white_aster -- When I did the whole "what would you like me to write" thing earlier this week, someone mentioned Arthur doing a sort of Pretty Woman thing, but you know, cause he's working his way through school, but earlier in the day, I'd read this story, which is pretty much about that. I love when fandom creates shit before people can even ask for it!

ETA: hit the ground running by [livejournal.com profile] imogenedisease -- Arthur loves Eames. Eames loves Arthur. Arthur doesn't believe him. This story made me laugh so much my shoulders shook. The lengths people will go to in the name of a four-letter word that isn't 'fuck.' (That's a really good line, isn't it? I may have to use that for a story title.)

An Immovable Object by [livejournal.com profile] bauble -- I don't know how I found [livejournal.com profile] bauble's work, but she consistently writes strong, engaging stories without miring them down in unnecessary business. Every word means something, everything that happens, happens for a reason. And this story, oh god, this story tells you up front what's happening and you can see it coming, but you hope, maybe... maybe this time it'll be different. But... it's not. And that's really the beauty of it. Truthfully, this story is like getting punched in the face and if you've never been punched in the face. What the hell are y'all doin'? How much can you know about yourself if you've never been in a fight?

life long local foreigner, i by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym -- Okay, see the thing is, I worry about [livejournal.com profile] gyzym sometimes because I'm pretty sure nobody can write as much as she does in the space of time she does and still, you know, be alive. Frankly, she reminds me of Liv Tyler's character in Empire Records and for the record this is a compliment cause this is the only movie I've ever liked Liv Tyler in. Even though she wants to do Rex Manning. And there's that speed issue. That's not the point. The point is that [livejournal.com profile] gyzym's stories are just amazing and alive and so beautifully considered and realized and her talent is just so astounding. I just... I'm at a loss. Just read all her shit.

Peanut Butter & Fixed Term Five Year Plans by [livejournal.com profile] andrealyn -- Eames is a baker and Arthur is a CPA. It's just. It's so darling. And it really made me want peanut butter cookies. I fricking LOVE peanut butter cookies. You don't even know.

take the long way home (soft as the radio) by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym -- Despite how it may look I don't adore [livejournal.com profile] gyzym because she writes me awesome awesome awesome awesome stories. I adore her because she's brilliant and talented and uproariously funny. And cause she writes me awesome awesome awesome stories about Ariadne and Yusuf. And Eames and Arthur. Now, I'm going to say something here, which may pain people to hear -- but I'm gonna say cause you are grown-ups. And if you're not, please go away and do not come back until you are wherever you live. I got distracted -- I -- am not an Ariadne fan. At least not how she's done in the movie. I adore Ellen Page, could watch Juno and Whip It all day, but as Ariadne... it falls flat. But in the right writer's hands... in [livejournal.com profile] gyzym's hands I'm like, "This Ariadne is awesome. This is the bomb shit. I want to read about this Ariadne. Hook it up!" So, um, yeah, read it.

this is all there is, roll the dice by [livejournal.com profile] wanderlight -- It always amazes me when people say relationships are easy. That A meets B and A and B just decide to be together and that's just it and it works. There are never any problems, never any doubts, never any what the fuck is going on? I wonder where this land is. I'm not sure I want to go there, but maybe just a visit, because in my experience that's not how things go. In my experience people are mean and sometimes cruel, sometimes they're confused, sometimes they run and sometimes they come back, but they are always human, they are never perfect. This story is about that.

with a rifle or a gun by [livejournal.com profile] figletofvenice -- So, one time there was this guy and he got caught in a bear trap. I don't even know, it was [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine and [livejournal.com profile] figletofvenice, you can't really leave them unsupervised or people end up in bear traps. And this story is kind of a continuation of that. Actually, this story is about Arthur's violent tendencies. Not like ripping heads off dolls, but like you know, the anger from being in L.A. traffic or dealing with potential in-laws, or stupid clients or being shot. Things everybody can relate to :D

Vid of the Week

I apologize in advance to everybody in a ten mile radius for the noises you're going to make when you watch [livejournal.com profile] orlisroses29 latest vid? clip? Tease? Whatever, it's awesome, you want it. Trust.

A few weeks back I declared a particular Friday the best Friday Recs set ever and [livejournal.com profile] kasumi_blue very helpfully pointed out that every week is the best week ever in Inception fandom, because we're all out here, working hard at whatever it is we're are doing, and she is right. Every week? Best Week Ever. So, this week? Best Week Ever. Let's get to it!

Art Recs

Art for Felis Catus by [livejournal.com profile] platina -- [livejournal.com profile] platina made this art for [livejournal.com profile] fermine' s Felis Catus where Arthur turns into a cat. IDEK. I am utterly besotted with the look on cat!Arthur's face in this art. Not even gonna lie. And also that sliver of Eames' stomach. Again, not gonna lie.

"God... I love when you wear skirt!" by [livejournal.com profile] nami86 -- See, the thing is... I don't ship Arthur/Ariadne. I ship Arthur/Eames. And Ariadne/Yusuf (which, really, there should be a metric fuck tonne of, and there is not). Ariadne/Cobb. And possibly Ariadne/Saito (I like when he buys her hospitals!) but I never let shipping stop me from enjoying an awesome piece of art, and y'all this is an awesome ass piece of art. The definition is amazing. The depth. The everything. Go, look, enjoy it,

Private Affairs 1 by [livejournal.com profile] fanlay -- [livejournal.com profile] fanlay continues in her quest to make me turn into an idiot every time her art pops up on my flist. But I am okay with that. Her penchant for film noir and the whole private eye spin just makes me warm and tingly... in my arty bits, god, y'all are filthy minded.

Saito Making it Rain by [livejournal.com profile] fyinception -- I think my informal title says it all. If you cannot appreciate this, please do not talk to me.

Fic Recs

Breathe Into It by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock -- Sometimes I try to write summaries of the stories I'm reccing and all that comes out is "See, what had happened was..." and that's a terrible sentence. The grammar makes my soul hurt, the way it sounds is just appalling to the ear, but saying it aloud is damn fun andt sometimes it's the only way to start a sentence. Like with this story, "See, what had happened was... Arthur teaches yoga, and Eames is a rather amorous ad executive who needs to be taken down a peg or two." For the record, Pru-Diddy? I love pigeon position, what!

Full Nelson by [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine -- HS AU. Eames is a wrestler; Arthur writes for the school paper. LOVE! LOVE! I know sometimes it might seem like I just recommend [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine cause I'm a big old fan girl. Not true! I recommend her shit, because I love her ability to tell a story and her writing style is awesome. And cause I'm a big old fangirl. Also with art from [livejournal.com profile] pearljamz! \o/

I bet Nureyev never had to deal with this shit by [livejournal.com profile] cobweb_diamond -- I don't know if you've heard people talking about this story, but really you should've, because over on the I_K somebody said, wouldn't it be awesome if somebody did a Ballet!AU and both [livejournal.com profile] cobweb_diamond and [livejournal.com profile] lilylines took up the gauntlet. [livejournal.com profile] cobweb_diamond has been working on this prompt for I don't even know how long, and the wait has been killing us. It's like having your drug dealer put you on a diet plan, but finally it is finished and yeah, everybody needs to go read it. NOW.

I_K Fill by [livejournal.com profile] handsomespeck -- Arthur is a lifeguard. Eames is a surfer. But, uh, the real hero of this piece is Yusuf. YES! Yusuf 4eva \o/. Why? Cause he punches in a shark in the ampullae. Like other stuff happens. There are jellyfish and riptides, but really? Yusuf.

Lay Your Siege by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym -- So, imagine you are reading The Iliad... Only Arthur is Achilles and Eames is Hector. And Mal is Helen and like other things happen. Awesome things. Like Hero School. And sensitive heels (heh). But, really, the hero of this entire story is Yusuf, I mean Odysseus. No, I mean Yusuf. Cause Zeus stole his woman. He leads such a hard life. You don't understand. And then he forgets the password. I sacrifice the last virgin in Texarkana on the altar of [livejournal.com profile] gyzym's brilliance. (NEEDS MORE YUSUF!)

東亞細亞 LOVE SONG TOUR by [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront -- My computer doesn't even recognize characters in Mandarin. Or Korean. Or Japanese. But trust me, you don't need to understand the characters to understand the sentiment. It comes with some very, very helpful translations. I wouldn't drink anything while I was reading this. And you know, this warning extends to [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis's story which is coming up a few stories down. But if you don't listen, it's not my fault. Just saying.

pressed against the pending physics of my passed down last name, by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym -- from [livejournal.com profile] gyzym's domesticity-verse. You all know I heart [livejournal.com profile] gyzym -- but sometimes she makes my life real hard. WHY ARE YOU HURTING EAMES! I am not okay with that. :( And yet, this is very well done. Stressful, but well done. Don't worry, the scalding!hot sex'll make up for the trauma.

Shake It, Arthur, Shake It by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- I. See. What. Okay, what happens here is that Arthur has some sartorial issues. And I can't really tell you about them or it will ruin the surprise. But I will tell you that the color purple is involved. And also Wal-Mart. And one of my favorite cursewords ever: MOTHERFUCKER. Everybody say it now: MOTHERFUCKER. Just rolls off the tongue beautifully, doesn't it?

that's not how our song goes by anonymous -- I was directed to this story by [livejournal.com profile] bauble and the prompt was Five moments in lives Arthur and Eames never lived, and one that still could happen. and let me tell you, this story is so much more than that it's amazing. It's breath-taking and eloquent and it grabs you by the heart-strings and yanks until you want to climb through your monitor, steal the story, take it home and lock it away so that you can look at it from time and time and marvel at the beauty. Yeah, it's that good. Trust.

this time tomorrow (where will we be) by [livejournal.com profile] liketheroad -- [livejournal.com profile] liketheroad says up front that this story was inspired by and has some dialogue from The Darjeeling Limited . But the thing is? I don't like Wes Anderson (or Owen Wilson or Jason Schwartzman) I won't say I hate him, but let's just say if his films are on, I am not in the room, and so when [livejournal.com profile] liketheroad first posted the story I wasn't going to read it, but it was her, so then I skimmed it. Only when I got to the end I realized, you know "wait this is actually engaging me, let me go back and pay real attention to it." And then I did, and I realized, it's not just engaging, it's damn good. Real good. Read it. Tell her so.

A few weeks back somebody somewhere mentioned that one of the things they liked about my Friday Recs was that I introduced people to authors they'd never heard of before. That sometimes I got real enthusiastic and was all THIS PERSON! I LIKE THIS PERSON'S WORK! Well, I'm pretty sure I do that every week, but this week I discovered somebody who's new to me, so ladies and gents meet [livejournal.com profile] veritas_nescio. The first story I read by this author was diptych which is a story about what makes Eames a forger. What [livejournal.com profile] veritas_nescio thinks being a forger means... and I loved it. It's quiet and controlled and smart and beautifully written. So, I went to see what else she's written and I highly recommend both house of cards, which is a story about not making things difficult (cause I honestly don't think they need to be) and snake song, which is about, well, the things that you take out of your dreams with you.

Video of the Week

Decision, PART ONE by [livejournal.com profile] orlisroses29 -- I knew from [livejournal.com profile] orlisroses29's last vid Darling that I was in trouble, that this vidder was going to screw me up, but at no time did I expect this. There are not words in my lexicon to explain the amount of stress this video put me through, the way my chest got tight and I could feel my heart beat speeding up. I was afraid. Oh god, what have Arthur and Eames done to me? Thank Zeus there's a part 2 coming

As always, if you like the finished product, show the creator some love. The universe will know if you are being stingy with the love.
Yes, these are Friday recommendations. Yes, it's still Thursday. Yes, I am sure because I'm sober. Why am I doing them today? a) Because I fucking can b) Because it's been that kind of week and c) See a & b.

Before we get to the Inception Recs, however, there are three other things that I'd very much like to draw your attention to:

a. Flowers for a Girl by [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63, which is season five Mad Man about Joan and Peggy and Don. This story fit so seamlessly between last week and this week that when it was over I was pretty sure I'd just seen a scene from the TV show. Sharp, visceral writing of which even Matt Weiner himself would be like "That's what I'm talking about."

b. Bloodbuzz by [livejournal.com profile] wearemany -- Southland fic. Oh Southland how I love you. How I miss you. How nobody ever seems to write you. Why is that? I suppose because it's so dense. So complete on its own. And yet, there's always a tiny thread that you can tug on. [livejournal.com profile] wearemany tugged on the Ben Sherman Sr. thread. And man did the rug unravel. Ben/John, NC-17. With suits.

c. You all know how I feel about film recs. You only get one a year and I spent that vote on Inception this year. However. If you feel like I steered you in the right direction with that one, if you feel like maybe I know what I'm talking about sometimes, then listen to me now when I tell you: Go see The Social Network. I detest Facebook. I couldn't give a shit about Aaron Sorkin. The last good thing David Fincher did was Fight Club. Every time this movie trailer came on I wanted to slit someone else's throat. The only reason I think I got suckered into going is because they used an a cappella version of Radiohead's Creep and Kayne's Power for the previews. But you know what? The movie was extraordinary clever. And smart. And human. And you will leave there amazed by the power of just wanting to belong. Two very very enthusiastic thumbs up. (And there's a special treat for LJ people. No, for real). Go. See. It. When you get back you can write me fic about you know who (or you will once you see it).

And now, to that other stuff.

Art Recs

Get The Fuck Out Of My Head_2 by tatarnikova -- The artist gave this a much more poetic title than I did. I think of it as, "OMG that drawing where Arthur's in the shower!"

Hard Candy#1 and Version #2 by Sofie Hallor -- If you suspect I'm a tad picky about my Arthur/Joe art, you have no idea how I am about the Eames/Tom art. When I looked at this, all I could think, apart from "That is how you use color, people!", was, "Oh, look, it's Tom." I should also point out that version #1 is the artist-preferred version, because she didn't like the way the eyes looked (but I do, which is why you also get version 2).

Mal & Eames by smilevintage -- The artist put this together as a push for Mal/Eames. I'm including it, not because I am interested in the pairing, but because this Mal? This is my Mal. Smiling and happy and mischievous and loved. There seems to be a segment that believes that Mal is some how manipulative and mean and harsh, that Dom was her victim or whatever, but I don't buy into that shit at all. I think Dom betrayed her love and her trust when he incepted her. I think she gave him everything and he turned out to be a selfish ass. If anybody's a manipulative prick it's Dom. My Mal is Arthur's Mal, and we both think, "she's lovely."

Fic Recs

Believe Me if You Can (The House at Pooh Corner) by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym -- See. This. What. I can't even. Tee. Eye. Double Guh. Err. That's what this story is about. You have been warned. Also, Rabbit's growing pot in his garden. In the last three weeks my childhood has been utterly besmirched by [livejournal.com profile] angelgazing, [livejournal.com profile] aredblush and [livejournal.com profile] gyzym I need to go cry somewhere.

Beni Asla Bırakma by [livejournal.com profile] atomicskull -- This is the Yusuf fic of my heart. No, that's not hyperbole, that's the truth. [livejournal.com profile] atomicskull knew what I needed and wrote it without me even needing to ask and I am eternally grateful. Yusuf is smart, and kind, and falls in love and his friendship with Eames is built on the firmest foundations. There is a life pre-Inception and there's one post-Inception.

Childish Thoughts, Adult Minds by [livejournal.com profile] sekkritbandlj -- You would think my Kryptonite would be wee!Eames. I thought my Kryptonite was wee!Eames. Turns out it's wee!Arthur. And Eames with wee!Arthur. On the slide. And at the ice cream parlor. And tiny Arthur. You don't understand. I was defenseless. I blame [livejournal.com profile] johanirae since she made the art for it that showed me its existence

Eames Character Study by [livejournal.com profile] temperance_k -- There are all kinds of Eames characterizations in this fandom. Everyone sees something different. Some people believe Eames comes from some sort of abusive home, that it's all rag-tag gutter living and that he's unspeakably dim. I don't see that. I don't buy it; you couldn't sell it to me on a naked man. Then again, there are people who don't believe that Eames planned the entire fucking Inception job. I can only assume that anti-monopolistic sentiments are being discussed on the back of a can of Carlsberg. Doesn't make it any less valid. Just means it doesn't work for me. My characterization tends to come from the idea of Eames being a public school boy, from money, from his clear military background and the fact that he uses an endearment once, ostensibly to get Arthur's head back in the game; [livejournal.com profile] lazlet insisted he was firmly middle class. She only capitulated to me when she found an interview where Tom and Chris admit that Eames is old money, but you know, it's like I said before. Everybody sees things differently. And this story. The one that [livejournal.com profile] temperance_k wrote. I buy this story. I believe this story. So will you.

A Piece of the Plate (Got Stuck In My Heart) by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- IRON CHEF AU FTW! Run, scurry, flee, read it now!

Plate Tectonics by [livejournal.com profile] indysaur -- Arthur moves in with Eames when his ex-fiancee tries to kill him. Like you do. But this story isn't really about that. This story is about living together and making room in your life for somebody else. But really, this story is about the awesome that is Yusuf. \o/ I love the Yusuf in this story. I want to take him home and make tea for him and give him biscuits

Plus One by [livejournal.com profile] someidiothasice -- I found this story last week through [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub and I'd give her a pony as a thank you, but I already gave her a pony. I can't have her running around taking other people's ponies. This is a story about Arthur in his off hours, about what he potentially gets up. This is about what happens when Eames comes along. It's the kind of thing you'll want to smoke something after, whether that's incense or a cigarette is up to you.

Put Your Hands On Me by [livejournal.com profile] meiface -- Arthur likes to be touched more than he thinks he does. This is yet another one of those things that is just kind of bulletproof for me. I know everybody's shocked. But I love the way [livejournal.com profile] meiface explores it here. The way Arthur thinks it's all about Eames when it's really all about him.

And before I go...

Upon my most recent viewing of Inception I am firmly convinced of the fact that Arthur is not a cold fish, that he's anything but repressed. That he's sensitive and emotionally aware. If you look a) at the scene where Ariadne wakes up after being stabbed and Arthur immediate runs to her side, b) when he talks about Mal being lovely c) when Dom is yelling at him, and Arthur's upset -- yes, because he fucked up but also because Dom is furious with him and d) where he drops down to Eames' side in the hotel room, that conversation. They'll run you down. Go to sleep, Mr. Eames. That shared smile. It's all there.

Arthur is astute. He is emotionally aware. He picks up on other people's cues. Whatever he is. He is not a fucking robot. Whatever he is, he feels things and he feels them deeply. Do not discount that.

Also, while I'm on my soapbox I'd just like to say that, "I love Eames clothes." I think they show a lot of fucking character and personality. I don't think they're tacky or gauche. They may not be bespoke suits and whatever, but the man fucking has style and he owns it. It's easy to wear something that comes preassembled from the same cloth. It's easy to stack black with black. It's a lot harder to decide who you want to be and let your clothes say that. Whether you spend an hour getting dressed or two minutes it all makes a statement, what do you want your statement to be?

And on a final note: if Eames were an animal, he'd totally be an otter. Adorable, self-absorbed, quick on the paw and unable to be denied at all.

And with that, you'll have to excuse me, I have to go back to my life being utter shite.
On Tuesday I read a story by [livejournal.com profile] sorrynotsorry (which is recommended below) and in comments said that, "this is shaping up to be, in my opinion, my best fic reading week in Inception fandom ever." I wasn't speaking in hyperbole. This week, ladies and gentlemen, BEST FIC WEEK EVER. Authors, give yourselves pats on the back, everyone contributed to this. Artists, throw those paintbrushes in the air (every week is the best week ever for y'all). *claps hands* Let's get to it.

Art Recs

Robert and His Pinwheel by [livejournal.com profile] johanirae -- I have a serious soft spot for watercolors. Like a serious one (I won't even front) and the colors here are so very lovely.

Tumblr Photo of Joe by weheartjosephgordonlevitt -- It's a photo of Joe. I know -- what's so special about that? Well, he managed to hit my holy trinity without even trying a) rolled up sleeves, which display most impressive forearms b) LOOK AT THOSE HANDS c) he's got his glasses folded up in his shirt pocket d) he's wearing jeans e) he's dressed up nicely but without going overboard (I can even overlook the skinny tie). In conclusion: this is my Arthur in his off hours. I felt inclined to share. Aren't I generous like that?

Yusuf Art by [livejournal.com profile] darthneko -- Yusuf is awesome. Yusuf should be loved by all. When this does not occur it makes for a cranky [livejournal.com profile] hackthis. Also? TATTOO!

Guide Rec

[livejournal.com profile] chn_breathmint put together a multi-part How to Write About Guns in Inception fandom guide. It covers everything: handguns, wounds, bullets, how to properly talk about guns, stances, why Hollywood is full of shit. Read it, learn from it.

Fic Recs

At some point this week the lack of Yusuf love made me a bit rabid. Actually it's been making me rabid all along, but this week just pushed me over the edge. So I set myself a task. Round up all the Yusuf fic. Find the Saito fic. Get thee to Robert Fischer hence. The results of that quest can be found here -- thank you to everybody who went above and beyond in pulling together links, especially [livejournal.com profile] silverotter, [livejournal.com profile] vanitashaze and [livejournal.com profile] johanirae. I am still working my way through the links, but I strongly urge everybody to go over and have a look. Read the stories, love the authors and artists, because this fandom needs more Yusuf and more Saito and more Fischer, because there would be no movie without them. NONE. Remember that. And without further ado:

The Billionaire and The Cat -- I managed to find the art by [livejournal.com profile] johanirae for this concept, before I even knew about [livejournal.com profile] zoi_no_miko's A Squeak in the Night. And if this doesn't manage to warm the cockles of your heart you are dead inside and there is no hope for you.

count to three and by [livejournal.com profile] figletofvenice -- Eames is dead. Except he's not. Now if that traumatizes you, imagine what the does to Arthur. Yeah, exactly. Poignant and evocative and beautiful all at the same time. *sniff* ♥

Dearheart by [livejournal.com profile] bauble -- Co-habitating is not for the faint of heart. Especially when it comes to sharing the bed. Especially when the person you are with has the internal body temperature of Satan. Seriously, nobody likes that part where you wake up soaked in your own sweat because somebody wanted to spoon. *shudders*

Deja Fucking Deja Vu by [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront -- People (myself included) don't talk about Nash much. Or if we do, we blame him for everything from the wars to the carpeting. He's incompetent. He's sleazy. He's not up to the standards of everyone else. Which, frankly, is sloppy writing on our part, because there is always more than one side to a story. Hell, there are always at least three, and [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront reminded me of that with this story that everybody should read. NOW. Frankly though, I don't think we'd have quite so much distaste for Nash if Lucas Haas wasn't so goddamn greasy. Does that boy ever take a shower? I mean imagine if Chris had made Cillian Nash and Lucas Robert -- I bet everybody'd be singing a different song, wouldn't they? It's a thought.

Dreams In Color by [livejournal.com profile] cmonkatiekatie -- Arthur dreams in black and white. I tend to be a very visual person. I like a story that I can see unfolding in my mind's eye and this... oh this is so very beautiful. One of the things I appreciate about [livejournal.com profile] cmonkatiekatie's writing is how she just manages to perfectly set a scene without bogging it down with too much stuff. It's a very fine art and she's very good at it. And the closing scene in this story is just exquisite. LOVE IT.

glow glow melt and flow by [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub -- A while back I posited the theory that the story you write in two hours will be better received than the story you spend all your time and effort working on. On Monday I poked [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub about a story she'd teased me with a week back, she said, "Yeah, I put that one aside and wrote something else in three hours." I knew what was coming. And lo, she sent me this and I fucking swooned. You ever swooned during a beta? Makes it hard to get the job done, but this story totally calls for it. I don't think I'll ever get tired of the Arthur has insomnia and needs Eames to help him sleep trope. *ponders* No, never.

i could be the thing you reach for in the middle of the night and to tell you the truth i prefer the worst in you by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym -- [livejournal.com profile] gyzym continues in her quest to make the other children look bad by churning out stories faster than most politicians can turn out lies and scandals. These two stories are the most recent in a series she's writing about being happy and what that means and what that takes. (I may have extrapolated a bit). One of the things that I am really enjoying in Inception fandom is that for the most part people don't feel the need to make everything all angst and suffering and people being in pain just to make things have "deep meaning" and "artistic merit". Whatever the fuck that is. There is nothing wrong with with writing about people being happy and in love; it's not illegal. It's not wrong. Happy-fic is not a goddamn curse. At least not in my journal.

I Feel That The Therapy Is Coming Between Us by [livejournal.com profile] sorrynotsorry -- This is the story I mentioned in the beginning of the post. The story that let me know that this week was indeed going to be the best fic week ever. This story is indicative of everything I Iove about Inception fandom: the humor, the banter, the sense of "wait, did you really just write that." Fabulousity.

Immaculate Dream by [livejournal.com profile] franticsga -- Let me tell you my feelings on zombies: if it is not 28 Days Later with naked Cillian Murphy (the film where we first met all those years ago) I am not fucking interested. This has long been a source of upset to people who know me ([livejournal.com profile] issaro even sent me a guide on avoiding the Zombie apocalypse), but zombies and I... just. *makes face*. And then along comes [livejournal.com profile] franticsga and is like, "I know what you want, you want Arthur and Eames doing 28 Days Later" and she was fucking RIGHT ! This is aces like playing that last hand of poker with a marked deck. Read it. Everybody read it. Love it. Appreciate the talent of the author. (Randomly, anybody else starting to type "arthur" when they mean "author"?)

In Between The Day And The Night by [livejournal.com profile] parka_girl -- Robert Fischer has insomnia. He goes to Yusuf for help. This just broke my fucking heart. I can so see this and parts of it just made me feel so hopeful and joyous and then that bit was over and I was back to being depressed.

Mr and Mr. Eames by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- At some point last month an artist made Mr. and Mr Eames art and I was so excited I asked for permission to write about, but now I don't have to, because [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis wrote it and it is so much better than anything I ever could have done. Oh my god, you guys don't even understand. Badassery and mail order wives and brass bands and Eames working for MI5. It's like happiness in written form. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up, fine holiday fun!

Not Just Any Tourist by [personal profile] white_aster -- Eames has some questions about Saito. This story, which is a month old, goes seamlessly with this art, which is about a week old. I don't believe that either one of these knows about the other but they should. I'm gonna go correct that right quick.

Pagina Uno by [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine -- This week [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine wrote/posted what I believe is my new favorite Inception story ever. This is not an easy slot to get and has been held for the last six weeks or so by [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront's The Greedyhearts, but Pagina Uno just... It's a story about books and libraries and Arthur and Eames and it's quiet and funny and utterly lovely and I cannot say enough awesome shit about it; it just makes me feel better.

Remember Your Training by [livejournal.com profile] mithrigil -- Oh my god, this story is so brilliant you all may never recover. [livejournal.com profile] lazlet decried to me the lack of gen fic, the lack of smart heist fic, I said, dude, if I find any I will let you know. And then I found this. SMART FIC IN THE HOUSE. God this story is so goddamn good... and it has, wait for it, Powerpoint. Oh just get thee hence.

Shit Arthur Says by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym -- Eames makes a twitter entitled "Shit Arthur Says." I don't even like twitter, unless your name is Kanye West. Or Cobra Commander. Or Shit My Dad Says -- but if Eames kept such a twitter in real life, I'd make a feed for it. For real.

Small Song by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- A story about where Yusuf came from, about who he is and why he's more than just an adorable face and nice neutral clothes. [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis has a wonderful way with words and her Yusuf and Eames together just make me smile like a loon.

a town at the bottom of the ocean by [livejournal.com profile] liketheroad -- We have our first Desert Island fic! Seriously, you don't know how happy it made me to read this. [livejournal.com profile] maurheti and I had discussed sending Eames on holiday with Arthur, but my story idea wasn't very good and so I 86'd it and then this appears and all I can think is "SCORE!" There is an island and Arthur cooking very well (HA!) and knitting very badly and there are horses and goats and a helicopter. I won't lie, the helicopter pushed me over the edge into sheer bliss.

Video of the Week

And because this is such an awesome week and I am all about the motivation, I'd like to leave you this week with the scene that launched a million stories and caused a collective swoon from several thousand fangirl (and boy) hearts.

Remember: Like the art/vid/story, let the creators know. Everybody needs support. Everybody needs encouragement. Nobody likes an asshole. So, don't be one. Show some love.
Ladies and Gents, I have a task for you, should you choose to accept it. I want you to bring me your Inception story recs. WAIT. Hear the assignment:

Bring me your story recommendations. But I do not want Arthur or Eames. Nor do I want Arthur/Eames. I want Yusuf fic. I want Yusuf/Ariadne fic. I want your Saito fic and your Fischer fic; I want your Saito/Fischer fic. Hell, if it's really fucking good I might even read your Saito/Cobb.

But again, no Arthur/Eames, no Ariadne/Cobb, no Arthur/Ariadne or permutations there of. I want to see what else this fandom has going on.

And I don't just want the stories. I want art. I want vids. I want it all.

Arthur, Eames, Ariadne, Cobb, they can be background characters, but they shouldn't be central, unless it's like Eames + Yusuf = BFF 4eva fic. That is okay. That is more than okay, but otherwise, just what I stated above. I know it's out there, so help me find it.

Right now all I have is:
[livejournal.com profile] fahye's OH&S (Yusuf-centric)
[livejournal.com profile] o_chan's Yusuf art
[livejournal.com profile] blue_phlox's Saito art
[livejournal.com profile] temperance_k's Untitled Robert/Saito
Yusuf origins fic by anonymous
Yusuf's Tin Hat by anonymous

HELP A SISTER HELP YOU OUT!
You ever tried to put a rec list together after your laptop died for the... third time, and all you can think is fuck my fucking life? Probably not. I don't recommend it. How am I posting this shit? With goddamn smoke signals and a fucking stolen laptop. Don't try this shit at home, children.

Art Recs

Missing Marketing Art for Inception by thisisnotbruce -- So Warner Brothers made art for every other team member but Yusuf. I AM NOT OKAY WITH THAT. *thinks of blood pressure* Thankfully, thisisnotbruce rectified that. High five.

More Inception Care Bears Art by [livejournal.com profile] aredblush -- There is a pretty pretty princess crown with Grumpy Bear Arthur's name on it. In conclusion? \o/!!!!

Pulp by [livejournal.com profile] fanlay -- This is THE art. The art we have all been waiting out entire lives for. For reals. The color, the body language. The bruises on Eames' knuckles and Arthur's face. The way she did the lighting. The lines, the coloring, the shading, oh my god. *swoons*

Saito Art by [livejournal.com profile] blue_phlox -- Oh my god, the colors in this are exquisite. Also, I think the tattoo it's now my new fanon. Like for real. This. Yes.

And, because I am admittedly super fucking biased [livejournal.com profile] johanirae made art for my story just because a man visits another man doesn't mean they're doing anything illegal (yet) which is AWESOME. AND. AND. [livejournal.com profile] loobeeinthesky made art for my story j'veux ton amour, et je m'en fous d'après because she is awesome, too. And I gotta say for a horrible fucking week, y'all are making it way better.

Fic Recs

Give Me The Number (If You Can Find It) by [livejournal.com profile] ifeelbetter -- Eames and Arthur switch phones by mistake, but this story is really about what your phone says about you. Your apps, your texts, they are all hints about who you are as a person. Also, better wooing through concrete shoes, y'all. What do you mean I'm a twisted fucker. Did you not know this? I feel like this is not news.

Incipit by [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden -- I assume y'all have read this already; I mean I'm pretty sure my vicar has read this one. Well, he or she would've if I was religious and like went to church. Or whatever. If you haven't read this I can only assume your laptop bit the big one this week too: Eames is a brilliant writer and Arthur is his long suffering editor. Yes, it's as good as everyone says. Actually, no. IT'S BETTER. AND. They go to Munich. Win-win all around.

make a home from a rented house by [livejournal.com profile] smallacts -- I haven't been in a fandom where fake!marriage was a trope... uh, probably ever. What, that just didn't happen in my fandoms. Deal, bitches. So seeing this in Inception is a novelty to me. An awesome one. Except for when Arthur is being a prat.

Nice Shoes, Wanna... by [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine -- Arthur is very protective of his property -- even when it's not his property. Contains what is one of the hottest threats against someone's livelihood that I've heard in a long time. I don't even know, I suspect Arthur reading the phone book is hot and I plan to test out that theory in the story I owe [livejournal.com profile] cmonkatiekatie (no, darling, I've not forgot about you).

protect this house by [livejournal.com profile] atomicskull -- It's Fashion Week and Eames and Arthur are very interested in the goings on. Okay, first of all whatever you think it's about, it's only kind of about that. Really it's about relationships and being in love and how there's really no such thing as the right time, but there is right now. Oh and it has Simon Spurr. So you know, I had to rec it based on that alone.

Technically a Virtue by [personal profile] mirabella -- Okay, so see what had happened was somebody was all, "hey, this is a story about fairy wings" but I'm not a fairy wing person so I emailed [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 and said, "It has wings; you will love it" (cause she's REALLY into that sort of stuff) And then I went and read it anyway and what I told Q is very true, "It has wings, you will love it."

this life looks good on you, by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym -- I don't even know who [livejournal.com profile] gyzym is or where he or she came from, but one minute there was no [livejournal.com profile] gyzym and suddenly this person shows up and is all GOTCHA, BITCHES! In this story Arthur has three rules for cohabiting; Eames only has one. Several weeks ago someone blamed me for this whole 'Arthur can't cook' hook in fanon. I do not have that much power, but you know, if it produces stories like this -- go ahead and blame me. I'll just have to turn him into Marcus Samuelsson in my next story (or six).

Also by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym (who wins mad points for the mosty hysterical LJ name in a while) A Whole New World, where Arthur is a very reluctant Disney Princess and i thought of you and where you'd gone, which has two the most enjoyable closing lines I've read all week.

Video(s) of the Week

Finally, the Arthur/Eames videos have started to roll in, and oh my fucking lord, they are BOSS. People are drawing from Joe and Tom's retinue and there's The Take and (500) Days and RocknRolla and all kinds of shit up in here. LONG LIVE THE VIDDERS, PEOPLE!

1) From [livejournal.com profile] almostgaby Under the Sheets

2) From [livejournal.com profile] orlisroses29 Darling...

As always, you know the deal: you like the work, show the creator some love. Artists and writers and vidders need love just like your blow-up dolls and life-sized JGL cut-outs
I don't tend to read when I'm writing (avoidance of outside influence), but I've still got an awesome collection of recs this week. Go team me! \o/ I do have a side note for the people in [livejournal.com profile] inception_kink who are not finishing their WIPs: what the shit, y'all? You are fucking KILLING ME. GAH! Ahem. Yes.

Art Recs

Don't Be Ugly: A Message from JGL by hitRECord -- Joe has a very special message for everybody this week courtesy of his blog and Roald Dahl. (Peace, Roald!) Read it, embrace it, abide by it. Make the world a better place.

Inception Lego Style by -infomaniac- - Just what it says on the label. What label is that you ask? The label entitled "HELLA AWESOME."

Inception People by [livejournal.com profile] nataliadarimini -- [livejournal.com profile] nataliadarimini made clay Inception weeble-wobbles (but not like really) that are really fucking adorable. Like really.

A Softer Inception by [livejournal.com profile] greenpixiehair -- I had never heard of A Softer World until last week's set of recs when [livejournal.com profile] vanitashaze was all, "So, have you seen this?" And then I saw it and I believe my reaction was flailing followed by keyboard smash followed by high pitched noises. I can't explain it, just go look for yourselves.

Art & Fic Rec

Arthur and Eames Care Bears Art by [livejournal.com profile] aredblush in conjunction with [livejournal.com profile] angelgazing's story let the fun shine in -- Last week [livejournal.com profile] aredblush earned my undying adoration for her awesomeawesomeawesome Inception My Little Ponies (I would seriously buy the boxed set. Robert's colors are amazing). This week she drew Care Bears for [livejournal.com profile] angelgazing's story let the fun shine in. READ THIS STORY. Incept-a-lot. Holy Zeus. <33 Love the art, read the story, shower them with love. Fandom, how so awesome?

Fic Recs

Dreaming Up by [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine -- Arthur is not an anal-retentive neat-freak. Eames is rather surprised by this. I love this Arthur. This is totally an Arthur I subscribe to and get a weekly newsletter about.

The Gates of Horn and Ivory by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- Dear [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis, WHY DO YOU MAKE THE OTHER CHILDREN LOOK BAD? That's just... that's not right. Or it wouldn't be right if it weren't for the awesome contained herein. Can I be like you when I grow up? Whatever you are doing, stop it right now and go read this story. After I finished it I immediately contacted [livejournal.com profile] maurheti and I was like, "It's like the motherfucking Penrose steps! You're running.... running... suddenly you're all where are the motherfucking steps?"

The J. Crew AU by [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub -- [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub tried to say this isn't a real story, but she was telling porkie-pies. This is totally a real story. And valid. And it has pictures. Normally I have very strong opinions about J. Crew, but when the menswear is used to illustrate a story about Arthur the Model and Eames the Photographer. Well, I think we've hit a win-win situation all around, don't you?

Joie de Vive by [livejournal.com profile] balphas -- Inception does Good Omens. Arthur is Crowley and Eames is Aziraphale (no, that's not a typo). Kind of. THERE IS FEEDING OF DUCKS.

Shades of Mediocrity by [livejournal.com profile] balphas -- The job is over and life goes on. But what kind of life is it? What I loved about this piece was [livejournal.com profile] balphas' parallels between post-Inception life, or indeed post-job life, and returning from deployment overseas. The idea what when you come back you have no idea what the fuck is going on. That you can't figure out if you hate this life or that life, or what you think life is supposed to be. Does normal even exist? (I don't think it does).

The Special Porn Section: I want to preface this by saying for the most part I'm not terribly interested in porn for Arthur and Eames. I want stories. I want UST. I want -- well, whatever it is that I fucking want. So, for porn to grab me it's got to be something really fucking special. The sort of thing that afterward you go. Oh. Oh my motherfucking GOD. This week I recommend Hallefuckinglujah by [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront (priest!porn. and rosary beads) and les dés sont pipés by [livejournal.com profile] franticsga (fingering). Um, bring napkins.

Video of the Week

Like a motherfucking boss, people. I don't even. Just watch it. Don't drink anything.

First of all, my woman is going to make a movie with my man. In layman's terms: Christina Hendricks has signed on to be in a movie with Ryan Gosling. Directed by Nicholas Winding Refn, i.e. the man who did Bronson. WHAT? WHAT? I can't hear you over the sound of all that awesome.

Second of all, apparently you lot are really digging Something That's Impossible to Ignore. Well, a couple hundred of you are. To celebrate that I'm offering you some music from another of my Baby Daddies (Guy Garvey). Elbow live at Abbey Road. This is just. Oh this is so goddamn stellar. The entire The Seldom Seen Kid album live.

And now. RECS TIMEZ!

Art Recs

I put Art Recs first this week just so I could link you all to this: Float Arthur Float. You will never leave your computer again. See that floating Arthur? See that little red die? Control the floating Arthur by moving the die with your mouse. Yes, seriously. This artist is clearly Einstein. Find this person. Shower them with gifts. Moar. We needs moar.

Stunning Arthur Art by emilyvictoriaartwork -- Okay, the bad news is that the photos here are small. It's depressing. Like I can't see it nearly as well as I'd like, but I can tell that this must be awesome. This is fucking AWESOME. With awesomesauce and rolled in more awesome. Also, bonus Gorillaz art in the author's tumblr. That she painted by her light socket on the wall. WANT. (Full sized art image available thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kadiel_krieger)

ETA: Inception My Little Ponies! by [livejournal.com profile] aredblush -- DOOD! DOOD! (Thank you [livejournal.com profile] wordsalone!)

Fic Recs

here's looking at you by [livejournal.com profile] raven_fic -- I have this thing about Casablanca. Actually I have this thing about old classic movies, full stop, and Casablanca is about as classic as it gets. Plus, it's kind of hard not to develop a thing for a movie after you see it in four different languages. I digress. This is Inception's version of Casablanca, but I want to stress here and with the Time Traveler's Wife and Battlestar Galactica fusions (you'll see what I'm talking about), just because you think you know what you're getting it doesn't mean that's what you're actually going to get. Give them all a chance. They are wonderful stories. You'll be the better for giving them a shot.

His Lordship Makes a Match by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- While [livejournal.com profile] syllic was working on her opus about a knight and a stable boy, [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis was working on her opus about a knight and his valet. There was a lot of post checking going on on my part. Do not mistake one for the other. They are both miraculously awesome. And what I loved loved loved about [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis's take on this matter is that she had fun with it and you can tell she had fun with it. You can tell when an author loves what they're doing and that's so apparent here. Go on. Read it. Thank me the author after.

i'm not ready to see you this happy by [livejournal.com profile] imogenedisease -- I like [livejournal.com profile] imogenedisease. I think she's delightful, but we have a problem in our relationship. Her Inception fic is insanely depressing. We're talking "woe and sadness" type business. So I tend to poke at her about this. Where is the fun shit? You wrote Ray Person's Big Gay World, do not tell me you can't make it! So earlier this week she was all, I will show you. I will write something happy. We have to work on her definitions of "happy." Which I told her. And then she turned around and wrote this which is totally her sticking her tongue out at me. And it's utterly glorious. Give me the V-sign again! What's it about? Well, it starts when Arthur gets a boyfriend. And he's not Eames.

The Inescapable Charm of The Countdown by [livejournal.com profile] amazingly_me -- This is a fill for an I_K (much better than typing Inception_Kink every five words) prompt where Arthur is a prosecutor and Eames is a defense attorney. A rather amazing one obviously. What I really enjoyed about this is the way it was drawn out, the organic way in which it infused the movie into the prompt, the way that even if not much is going on, something's still going on. I like things like that. I don't need a lot of flash and bang (all the time), but I'm big on substance. Also, I'm big on Saito owning the world. Those two things always work for me.

Jamais Vu by [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden -- Oh, [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden. I don't feel like y'all need me to tell you how awesome [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden's Inception fic is... but I'm going to tell you anyway, because I've never met anybody who didn't want to hear about how awesome their work is. So, how awesome is this story? So awesome, that even if you've read it already, you need to go read it again. NOW. Yusuf is working on a new compound to lower inhibitions, but there's nobody that's more high strung than Arthur. So what happens when Eames goes under with Arthur to get him to relax. And no, it's not like that. It's better. It's everything you never knew you wanted.

Left and Leaving by [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine -- You know what makes me go /o\? When I come up with an idea and I'm like "Oooh, this is awesome. I dunno how this is gonna work, but I want to try this. Eventually. Possibly. Not that I know how this will work." And then [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine comes along and is all "I haz your idea in my head! I'm gonna write it! I wrote it! And it was so much more awesome than anything you could've dreamt up during last orders at the pub." Um, that's my opinion, not hers. Hers is more in line with the awesome "There's plenty for everybody!" Which is something I've always loved about fandom, the shared ideas. But, uh, this is truly better than anything I could've come up with. Inception does The Time Traveler's Wife (a book I love). Go forth and salivate. Offer adoration properly.

like i wanna live now by [livejournal.com profile] angelgazing -- So. There is this flannel shirt. And there are contingency plans. And wet Arthur. And sick Arthur. And Eames is just.... sigh. What I loved about this was the simple beauty of it. How happy it made me feel. Inception the movie had plenty of Sturm und Drang, I do not need to finish my stories and feel pissy or angry or cranky. I just don't. That's what RL is for.

London Bridge by [livejournal.com profile] sorrynotsorry -- Eames is a stripper. Yeah, no, that's all you need to know. Go on.

or the blood that rose into the silence by [livejournal.com profile] addandsubtract/[livejournal.com profile] figletofvenice -- Inception does Battlestar Galactica. Breathe. No, for real. Breathe. Inhale. Exhale. Check for Cylons. Move the mouse. Click the link. Off you go.

PASIV/ACTIV by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- You know the "whole X story is more valid than Y story because it is (or isn't) angst/fluff/crack/humor" has always made me violently angry. If you do something and you enjoy it then that is beauty. And you should be proud of it. NEVER malign yourself or someone else because what they're writing isn't what you deem to be "high art." No one died and made you king. And I bring this up, because in her Author's Notes [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis said that this story made her concerned because it wasn't necessarily as "meaningful" as her other stories. I very much disagree. I loved this story. It made me laugh, it made me happy, why is it so wrong for a story to make people happy? To bring joy? It isn't. At least I don't think it is. I think every type of story should be appreciated and respected for its merits. Um, yeah. Sorry. Getting off the soapbox now. But before I go... Saito takes the PASIV and makes it more... user-friendly. I'd love one of these.

the pistol of a flower is its only protection against insects; by [livejournal.com profile] handsomespeck -- AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS STORY! Arthur is a hitman; Eames is his gardener. Trust me. You trust me right? Trust me.

Secrets that we keep by [livejournal.com profile] bauble -- On this story I would like to quote Guns N' Roses the alternative version of 'Don't Cry' I know the things you wanted, they're not what you have. With all the people talkin', it's driving you mad." *Aw, what, you didn't think I could get down like that? HA! You have no idea.

A Stranger I Know Well by [livejournal.com profile] snakevsladder -- High School AU. Arthur has a film class. He has to work on his assignment with Eames. They decide to make a film trailer. About a con man.

Three Weeks by [livejournal.com profile] bauble -- Eames and Arthur have been together for twenty-one days. Someone is getting itchy. I could just see this so clearly. I know this behaviour. Sometimes people just are this way.

Untitled Inception Daycare AU by [livejournal.com profile] amazingly_me -- It's an [livejournal.com profile] inception_kink fill which means it's dismayingly short, but oh my god, y'all, Go ask the author, maybe she'll write more. Yusuf has a day care center. Saito likes to buy pudding and sell graham crackers. Ariadne builds gravity defying Lego towers and Arthur and Eames... well. Go see for yourself. [livejournal.com profile] andrealyn this is relevant to our joint interest!

And. Before we go. A present. You know that video of Joe covering Bad Romance? (I feel like you know what I'm talking about.) Well, before there was Gaga...there was Madonna. Here is Joe covering one of my favorite Madonna songs ever back in 2007. Yes, you are welcome. Yes, I think you are fabulous too. Now off you go.

Appreciate the authors and artists. Appreciate the Joe. Show them love. They are more than worthy.

Say thank you to [livejournal.com profile] kismeteve for the video.
So. I hope y'all didn't have any plans for the next day or two, cause uh ::looks at list:: good luck with that.

It's been a long ass time since I've been in a big fandom (we're talking like HP or something). I'd forgotten all the things that come with that (the good, the bad, the ugly, the sheer WTF?). But one of the undeniable joys of a large fandom is the art. There is art everywhere, everybody interpreting, going a different way to see the same thing. So this week, we are saluting you, the artists. Even if we don't know who the fuck you are, we are saluting you anyway. So, this week, art on top fic on the bottom courtesy of Inception fandom's artists, Fuck Yeah Inception and [livejournal.com profile] bronson who is running Fuck Yeah, All Ships (<-- check'em out kids. Support your local pimps) and of course, all of you awesome people.

Art Recs

Adorable by Pixiv Artist Unknown -- This has wee!Eames. There are other things going on, but Wee!Eames is my Kryptonite. Nuff said.

Arthur by Artist Unknown -- One of the things I appreciate the most about art is its interpretive nature. Something may not exactly look like the source, but when you see it you know exactly what it is. When I look at this art I don't necessarily see Joe, but I definitely see Arthur. Also, the shading and coloring here are wicked awesome. Hi five, artist!

Arthur (in ink) by iamhoya -- Another solo Arthur piece. I feel like you guys have some preferences here. This has got to be the most realistic JGL I've ever seen. It's just amazing.

Arthur's Training Day Log #1 by Osaka-Reaper -- Arthur runs out of cookies. Yeah, I know, try not to cry, people, I know how you lot get. Thankfully, Eames is there to get him more.

Art for Dreams are for Rookies by [livejournal.com profile] innueneko -- This art is based off of [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub's awesome story Dreams are for Rookies. I assume everybody's read that, if not, I don't even know what to do with you, go read it now and then come back and look at this awesome ass art. There's something about the rawness of the lines here that I just adore. And it's Arthur in glasses. And then there's Eames' hand. Yes, his hand. You will see.

Exit by Remy -- Legs. Suits. Kissing. Even the stairwell is sexy in this piece. I don't even know what you people have done to me at this point.

Fireman!Arthur and Morning Lullabies by [livejournal.com profile] johanirae -- Inspired by stories from [livejournal.com profile] pyramidine and [livejournal.com profile] therandomgirlie. I love the shading in [livejournal.com profile] johanirae's art. You can see the joy she gets from drawing, the attention to detail. Plus, she's just an incredibly sweet person, and you know, that never goes out of style.

Half of a whole by lamamama -- So. Mal & Ariadne. Excuse me Mal/Ariadne. I had briefly wondered at such a thing, and then I thought, [livejournal.com profile] hackthis get some air, you're losing the plot. And then I saw this and thought, ha! I'm not the only one.

Robert & Saito by heymyjojo -- I ship Robert/Saito. Why are more people not shipping this? Y'all are making me depressed over here. They would be so pretty! All that pretty naked. And sweaty and like sliding together in really nice sheets. In an apartment with floor to ceiling windows with the lights from Tokyo illuminating them? Dear god, is it hot in here? I'll be over there

Trepanation Party and Dog Days Are Over by [livejournal.com profile] slanted_edges -- I don't know what's more impressive, the attention to detail here or the colors. The colors here are fucking stunning. It's a watercolor and everything about both of these pieces is so alive it's just like, well... well shit. Go on [livejournal.com profile] slanted_edges bring your A-Game!

Fic Recs:

A Fool From Any Direction by [livejournal.com profile] syllic -- FINALLY. FINALLY. We have the last piece of a WIP I'm pretty sure everybody and their nana's has been following with baited breath. [livejournal.com profile] syllic took a prompt: Eames is a knight, and Arthur is a stable boy and ran a fucking marathon with it. This story is by turns charming, alarming and just flat out awesome personified. For the two of you who've never heard of it, READ IT, and for those of you who've been waiting for the end. It's been finished and claimed by its rightful author.

Can You Picture That? by [livejournal.com profile] ifeelbetter -- Eames is a camera whore.(Which is not really shocking considering what he looks like. I mean have y'all looked at that man? Really really looked. What's that? Oh, right, you saw the movie too. Well then, you know.) I got distracted. Eames is a camera whore and Arthur likes to collect the evidence. You know, just in case. And then there are folders. And a filing system.

Love You Much Better by [livejournal.com profile] andrealyn and You're waiting for an orgasm by anonymous, but, uh, I'm going with [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront on this one -- Fuck or Die has come to Inception-land and these two are going to set the standard for it. In the first Eames is the recipient of quite a bit of attention and in the latter it's Arthur's turn. They are both full of awesome humor, some rather inventive sex (paradoxical orgasms! architect attacks!) and are just incredibly engaging. Read. Enjoy. Love the authors.

Maybe Arthur by [livejournal.com profile] smallacts/[livejournal.com profile] liketheroad -- Okay, I knew like one section in that I was going to be recommending this story. That's right people, one section in. And why's that? Tsingtao! I love Tsingtao! You don't even know. It's a Chinese beer for the initiated, but that little detail just said to me, "[livejournal.com profile] hackthis you are going to love this story" and so I did. Not because of the Tsingtao, but because Arthur is a real man. He sweats and is messy and has clothes with holes. He is not a robot. He is not perfect, he is not overly obsessive, he's anal, sure, but there is so much more to him than suits and ties and slick hair and that is what I love about him. What I love about writing in general. Finding what makes somebody real, what makes the connection and in this story [livejournal.com profile] smallacts delivers. Oh, what's it actually about you say? It's about... it's about being a friend, and what makes somebody a friend, and what possibly moves you into something more. Seduction comes in all forms.

No Fortress Against Her Remains by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- Long before Mal met Dom, she met Arthur. This story takes a basic premise, slits it down the middle and guts it in front of you. It's utterly stunning. Oh, and then there's the Baudelaire tie-in, where I was like "Ha! Somebody else thought that too! Hi five!"

OH&S by [livejournal.com profile] fahye -- Sometimes, when you know a lot about something you like to share your information. Yusuf knows a lot about the PASIV device. It would be nice if people would fucking listen to him about it. I love the hell out of Yusuf and try to include him whenever possible, but [livejournal.com profile] fahye has taken that to the next level. In this fic, Yusuf is the boss, Saito is buying the world to woo Ariadne, and Eames and Arthur... are Eames and Arthur. Read it. Shower her with adoration. It is well deserved.

the stain in the carpet, this drink in my hand by [livejournal.com profile] dontleaveiton -- I'd like to subtitle this story Better Courting Through High End Furniture and Interior Decorating. It's just utterly charming. Be prepared to fawn.

Suspension Bridge, op. 4 by [livejournal.com profile] chibi_lurrel -- You know what's real treacherous? When people you are already susceptible to start saying "Hey, dude, read this. No, for real, read this." [livejournal.com profile] pyramidine pulled this shit last week. Heifer. (I say that with love though). Anyway, she recced this and I read it and all I could think was, "Hot damn!" It's a fill for the following prompt: 4 times Arthur & Eames accidentally forgot they weren't in a dream anymore and almost shot each other in the face during an argument, and 1 time one of them actually did Inorite!

Warm Light of Morning by [livejournal.com profile] cmonkatiekatie -- As I told [livejournal.com profile] cmonkatiekatie I love the realism of this piece. It's the sort of story where nothing is happening, because everything is happening, and then one day you look up and you're like, "I quite like you, when did that happen?"

Like the story, feed the author. Everybody likes to hear they did a good job
This week not only do we have the second set of recs (or a first set and that last bit was leftovers from the prior week), but we have a mixed bag! That's right kids, not all of these are Eames/Arthur. Stop making the >.< face at me. Diversity -- it's a good thing. Embrace it. It makes the world a better place I'm telling you that now. And so, without further ado.

Inception Recs (in alphabetical order)

And they lived happily ever after by [livejournal.com profile] lifeasacloud -- Eames is a prince. He needs a date. Enter Prince Arthur, who happens to be locked in a tower guarded by piranhas. And a dragon. And a giant. And is under a spell of perpetual bitchiness. When I read this all I could think about was how [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 would do her nut over this. Q? This is SO you.

Dreams Are For Rookies by [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub -- Arthur's in high school. He's a vice-president of the history club and loves the Beastie Boys and Tennessee Williams. Eames is a transfer student who is playing the lead in A Streetcar Named Desire. I cannot stand Tennessee Williams (except for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which is crazy awesome), but that is totally irrelevant, because what this fic is really about it Seven Minutes in Heaven. That's right. Teenage!Arthur and Teenage!Eames locked in a closet with all the awkward adorable teenage posturing you could want and then some. I think we should buy [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub a pony.

A Great Disappointment by [livejournal.com profile] starkraves -- Robert Fischer is not a stupid man. He runs into Cobb with his children post-inception. A little disconcerting. Not gonna lie.

I Have Not Yet Forgot Myself to Stone by [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront -- In Inception fandom there are writers and then there's [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront. I honestly don't know what's in this woman's Wheaties, but I might break into her house to get them. Um, I didn't say that. My solicitor tells me I didn't say that. This story is a mash up of Inception and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Eames is hired to remove Dom Cobb from Arthur's mind, and then he falls in love with him. Um, oops? I thought [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront's The Greedyhearts was my favorite Inception story ever. But, now these two are battling it out. Arthur/Cobb and Arthur/Eames

Inception Kink Fill: yusuf writes arthur/eames fanfic. cobb is his beta. ariadne finds out. (it's the second entry down) by [livejournal.com profile] tailoredshirt -- If the premise isn't enough to get you to click this story, please know that it has some very strong words for epithets. Which I loathe like Arthur hates polyester. OMG! Also, Cobb has writer's block and Saito is writing Cobb/Saito. So is Yusuf. Apparently it's OTP for life.

Ready, Aim, Misfire by [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine -- I'm not even going to embarass myself this week. Seriously. Just look at the prompt: EAMES ACCIDENTALLY LIGHTS HIS LIVING ROOM ON FIRE. FIREFIGHTER!ARTHUR ARRIVES AT HIS APARTMENT AND SAVES THE DAY.. Exactly. Off you go now.

The Replacements by [personal profile] lithiumdoll -- Cobb is retired. Ariadne is working a job with Yusuf, Arthur and Eames and in danger of committing homicide. Enter Mary Poppins who isn't Mary Poppins and Yusuf's ex-fiancee, who is, uh, not very happy with him. Whoops? This is just so much fun, gracious.

Waiting On by [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden -- An AU where Eames owns a dinner and Arthur works a 9 to 5 in the financial industry. Every day Arthur orders the same thing and every day Eames has his paper waiting for him when he arrives. I nearly plotzed from how much I adored this. It's just sweet and happy and I am #1 A-OK with this.

you dream of seeing fire in them hills by [livejournal.com profile] latenightcuppa -- When I wrote the question is not whether I treat you rudely... and gave both Arthur and Eames military backgrounds the concept was born of nothing more than multiple viewings and some very serious "you KNOW that's military training" thoughts I had about Eames' actions in his dream level and Arthur in that hallway scene. And then [livejournal.com profile] michelinamarie was all, "hey, did you know that's canon backstory for Eames?" And then it turned out to be canon backstory for Arthur too and I was like, "Hot damn!" In this story [livejournal.com profile] latenightcuppa takes their shared background and runs with it. She runs with it all the way to Bavaria. Long run, folks. Check it out.

You're waiting for a fill... by anonymous and the sequel A fill that will take your prompt far away-- Eames finds [livejournal.com profile] inception_kink and starts filling some of the prompts; Ariadne isn't trying to steal his man and Saito buys the internet (you mean he doesn't own it already?)

Art Recs:

Mr and Mrs. Eames -- There are no words. Except that now I really really really really really (counts reallys) really want to write about it. Does anybody know if the person who made it has an LJ so I can maybe ask permission?

If you like the story, tell the author. We need positive reinforcement just like everybody else
You know what's really tragic to me? When I find stories I want to rec right after I've already posted the Friday recs and then I have to like wait a whole week or some shit till the next Friday. I don't like having things on deck, so, yeah, we're not gonna do that. We're gonna give you some reading material today, because a) the productivity rate in Inception fandom is insane B) the quality is amazing and c) I have to clear off the slate or we'd have like 30 stories in one go and thinking about that makes me tired and D) I am working on something and this shit is distracting me

Ah, Inception fandom. You know how to bring it, I am most pleased.

listed in alphabetical order

Champion Sound and Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine -- One of the first and most important lessons fandom ever taught me is that Everyone is someone else's fan. Seriously, for every writer there is some fan that they make act completely undignified. I, myself, am a big old [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine fan and I wish she would knock it off with the brilliance, because really I cannot be simpering like this. It's just unseemly. She and I are totally going to have to talk about this. Later. Way later. Preferably after several Snobby DJs.

En Route to Transylvania by anonymous [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront -- Arthur is Dracula; Eames is a goat herder. Yeah, I said it, and no, I haven't been drinking. At least not this morning. You will love it. Trust me.

five ties arthur can't wear any more by [livejournal.com profile] fahye -- Exactly what it says on the wrapper, and yet, so much more. Incredibly droll, sharp, smart and sweet all at the same time. Very nice work. I kind of want to take this story out and buy it more ties, get it pissed and then tie it to the headboard. TMI? Too bad! :D

The Incepted Bride by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- Apparently everybody and their mother read this, so why did nobody tell me about it? FIRED the lot of you. Holy Baby Zeus is this awesome. Inception does the Princess Bride. I fricking LOVE The Princess Bride. And in this version: Eames is Buttercup. Quality quality quality.

Inception Kink Fill: Eames Works at a Movie Theatre by anonymous -- One day I will get over my vexation with this anonymous business. Today is not that day. But that's okay because in this fic Eames works at a movie theatre, and he gives Arthur free cherry slushies. And that's not even a euphemism, even though it sounds like it should be. Also, there are closets. And strangely enough, that's not a euphemism either!

Our Shiny City by [livejournal.com profile] atomicskull -- Okay, I'm going to tell you guys upfront that [livejournal.com profile] atomicskull tried to scare me off by saying the story was about hipsters. My thoughts on hipsters... if you can't say something nice you should shut the fuck up. But she was totally trying to fake me out about because this story is all about ART and I love the hell out of art. So we'll focus on painter!Eames and Grad Student!Arthur. And the fact that this story is gorgeous and lyrical and made me insanely happy. And it talks about Auerbach and Cartier-Bresson and Hockney. Holy fuck do I love the shit out of Hockney. I love Hockney like I love linings in coats and suits jackets. We'd still be here next week. Oh and I love Hockey like I love Arthur and Eames being adorable. And Yusef and his mad scientist self. Plus, she also mocks the Eames chair, which will never not make me laugh, because that shit is crazy uncomfortable.

The Short Fuse and the Long Con by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis -- I feel like you lot have been keeping secrets from me. Why was I not informed of [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis' awesome before. Again? You lot are fired! Gah! This story is Arthur/Eames... and Arthur/Cobb... and Arthur/Saito. I know, stick with me on this one, it's just that fucking good. I laughed, I emoted, I love Yusuf like burning and hope he will be my gay guru too. Read it, y'all. NOW.

ART RECS:

Last week I recced The Greedyhearts by [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront a fabulously entertaining story where Eames is an awesome thief and Arthur is a PI. Pembroke made this art to go with the story. This art is gorgeous. I want to pet this art and feed it grapes and fan it with enormous palm fronds.

The Inception Team refrigerator. For real. Trust me. By [livejournal.com profile] matchsticks_p. LOVE IT.

You're on a train...A&E style by [livejournal.com profile] bronson I loved this. It made me want to write a story about it. Like a lot. Who made this and can I write a story about it? Somebody please tell me who made this so I can ask for permission to write about it! (thank you [livejournal.com profile] imogenedisease!)

You know the drill: if you enjoy the stories, please let the authors know. Authors need love and support and water to grow.
Class, I have a question: WHERE THE FUCK IS THE INCEPTION MOOD THEME? I know somebody's made one, right? Right? Gah! :(

Here are my recs for the week. As always my Inception recs are Eames/Arthur unless otherwise noted (this week there are two notes)

listed in alphabetical order

conspirators in living by [livejournal.com profile] smallacts -- Dear [livejournal.com profile] smallacts, your shit is the bomb. F'real. This is a story about Arthur. About where he might've come from and who he'd be. It's absolutely fucking exquisite. When I finished reading it all I could think was, "Oh, this is lovely as hell." Inception fandom doesn't have Canadian shacks (yet -- makes note to self), but we do have beach huts. I am down with this! Totally competent!Arthur and protective!Eames FTFW! \o/

Cuddleslut by [livejournal.com profile] meiface -- This is a fill for Inception_Kink, the author says In which Eames doesn't know how to cuddle, Arthur finds himself giving lessons, and arguments are won by cheating.. I just laughed and laughed. It's terribly cute.

The Greedyhearts by anonymous -- ARGHHHHHHHHH! Y'all are killing me with this anonymous business! Stand up writer so I can applaud loudly. Ahem. [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront Eames is a thief. A brilliant thief that can't spell (natch). Arthur is a PI. It has it's own website! This story brought me so much glee it could be my favorite thing in Inception fandom yet. Except for y'all. Y'all are pretty groovy. Yeah, I said it.

Grooming by [livejournal.com profile] temperance_k -- This is a story about all the ways that your life affects the clothes you wear. Some people may not think that's true, but I firmly believe that what you wear tells you everything about where you're at in your life. Shabby, sharp, matching, messy, it's all an extension of something greater.

I Believe In Your Victory by [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine -- You guys remember, like, last week (I know it was a long time ago, I feel you), when I was screaming from the rooftops about [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine's Inception Fill of M' from James Bond as Eames' mom and how I would cry and rend my garments and leap from tall buildings if she didn't write more. Sometimes, if you are very very good and pick a lot of pockets, you get what you want. She wrote more. It is utterly utterly awesome. I draw sparkly hearts.

Inception Kink Fill: Saito Wooing Robert by [livejournal.com profile] temperance_k -- This is not Arthur/Eames, this is Robert/Saito. A pairing I have been eyeballing with great curiosity pretty much from the jump because the idea of Cillian Murphy and Ken Watanabe together makes my palm sweat. No, for real. Take a minute. Consider this. Yeah, exactly. [livejournal.com profile] maurheti and I have been tossing ideas back and forth like two performing seals trying to figure out how to spin this. How I think the Inception maybe wasn't all business-related. I think I'm going to be writing this soon. In short, if you have any more of this stuff lying around, PLZ TO BRING IT AT ONCE.

Inception Kink Fill About Mistakes again by anonymous ARGHHHHH! Ahem. Yeah, I'm not even going to summarize this. It's less than 100 words and will probably leave you poleaxed on the floor. Or as I told the author, "I don't know what I was expecting and then suddenly it was like being slapped with a cold fish! A cold *frozen* fish!"

Lazy British Summer by [livejournal.com profile] fandomatemylife -- Just what it says on the tin. And more. Eames falls in love with Arthur's bare feet. There is cricket and Henry Blofield ([livejournal.com profile] lazlet this is so you). There are sand castles and happy Cobbs and Arthur with his sleeves rolled up and fish and chips (I need chips now *sobs*) it's just really fucking happy and sometimes poignant and really sweet and I liked it. Deal with it :-)

Leading with my heart by [livejournal.com profile] acidpop25 -- The author's summary is Arthur may be asexual, but he and Eames are in love all the same.. I'd never read anything like this before, it's quiet and beautiful and I very much enjoyed it.

ETA: Mr. Eames' List by [livejournal.com profile] chn_breathmint -- Everybody knows about Skippy's List,i.e. Skippy’s List: The 213 things Skippy is no longer allowed to do in the U.S. Army right? So imagine if that list existed for Eames. And it included dollar bills in Arthur's braces (suspenders) and Rick-Rolling. 39. I am not Ali G. 40. Nor am I Borat.Comedy Gold!

This week we are also graced with a couple ART RECS (Whoo! Yay! \o/ Art!)

This is a Kick by FullMetalPyrate. I actually plan on using that phrase for a story at some point. I really loved the colors in this.

Adorable Eames and Arthur by Hereinneverland on Tumblr

Dreaming in a Dream of a Dream. My reaction upon seeing this was OH MY FUCKING GOD, THIS IS THE MOST SPECTACULAR THING EVER. Yeah, in all caps. I talk real loud sometimes.

This piece is so badass I don't even know what to say via Radioactivecake on Tumblr

I have no idea who any of these people are if they are on LJ, so if you know, holler at your girl.

[livejournal.com profile] hackthis' Song of the Moment: Jason Derulo's 'Ridin' Solo'

You don't understand: I have an unhealthy attachment to this song, but I don't care.

This song is so goddamn catchy I may never recover. Have a copy

Runner up: Janelle Monae's 'Cold War.' Get it.

Inception Recs (Eames/Arthur unless otherwise noted)

In alphabetical order:

Back Against the Wall by [livejournal.com profile] ashinan -- Angry!sex is not one of my kinks but Jealous!Arthur that leads to Angry!sex? Uh, the words "fuck yes" immediately spring to mind. This is seriously scald-your-eyeballs hot.

fire favored by [livejournal.com profile] andrealyn -- Ten words: Inception Mutant!AU. Arthur is a firestarter. Eames is a shapeshifter. INORITE!

five times eames was (shockingly) a gentleman by [livejournal.com profile] deepsix -- I first found this via the inception_kink comm, but the author was anonymous, which drove me crazy. Why do y'all tease me with this anonymous shit? How am I supposed to praise you properly if I don't know your name! Bah. Thankfully, [livejournal.com profile] deepsix stepped up and took ownership of the awesome contained herein. And y'all, it is awesome. The story is fairly self-explanatory from the title, but I just adore Eames here. I adore Eames anywhere, but especially here, because of his restraint and his desire to do shit right.

Inception_Kink Fill: Eames woos Arthur with poetry by [livejournal.com profile] handsomespeck -- I think the Request says it all "Eames. Poetry." It's short but classic. <3 Eames

Inception_Kink Fill: M from James Bond as Eames' mother by [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine -- Do I even need to tell you to read this? Do you see what this prompt is? Exactly. And it was written by [livejournal.com profile] moneyfolder. THIS SHIT IS MONEY IN THE FUCKING BANK. No, seriously, like I may have spontanously combusted. Tell her to write more. Beg. Invegle. Offer children, kittens, goats, virgins if there are any left, because if she doesn't write more I'm going to be very very very sad.

If You're Just Playing Along, I Promise We'll Be Fine by [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub -- A point man and a forger walk into a bar...oh, wait, wrong story. A point man and a forger get drunk in a bar and it's adorable and involves PDA and posessive!Arthur. Yeah, FTW.

Prison Bars and Snail Shells by [livejournal.com profile] ifeelbetter -- Arthur goes to prison. Like you do. Eames is not down with this turn of events. And then he does his best Houdini and it's like the most fabulous thing ever. There is vomiting of keys! What? Does that not make you gleeful too? Infidel.

Sort of Revolution by [livejournal.com profile] pyrimidine -- Arthur is not a morning person. Eames accomodates him. Bless.

tonight I'm a hurricane by [livejournal.com profile] sabinelagrande -- Arthur and Eames... and Ariadne. [livejournal.com profile] maurheti said, "It's hot." I said, "Can't be that hot." She said, "Yeah, it is." I said, "Fine, I will read it." And then I had to lie down in the walk-in freezer for an hour or two.

Two Steps Towards Make Believe by [livejournal.com profile] ifeelbetter -- If you don't know what it is to suffer from insomnia, consider yourself lucky. And no, that one time you only slept five hours instead of eight doesn't count. Arthur doesn't sleep, hasn't slept in years (which believe me is possible), but when he gets near Eames. Well. I reckon Eames can fix anything.

we walk the same path (but got on different shoes) by [livejournal.com profile] lastling -- Eames is an assassin; Arthur is a handler. IT'S LIKE THIS FIC WAS MADE FOR MY KINKS. Seriously. Or as I told the author, "Well, that was delightful as hell, holy shit.." Seriously, if this doesn't leave you grinning from ear to ear I don't even know what to do with you, like for real, go sit in the corner for twenty minutes.

When No One is Around You by [livejournal.com profile] moonythestrals. Okay this is a story about Eames' first name. And Arthur's last name. Or Arthur's first name. What you never considered that 'Arthur' is his surname? C'mon, now. Anyway, this story should be read for that idea alone, but to me that's incidental to what's really important about this story. Two words: Wee Eames. Exactly. Off you go now.

1. I would like to thank [livejournal.com profile] custom_dreams for introducing me to this image, because now I am convinced that Christopher Nolan makes BFFs out of everybody on his films (unless your name is Scary Ass Christan Bale) and [livejournal.com profile] maurheti has convinced me that Saito and Fischer meet after the job. Up in Scotland. Where Saito bought a castle because he likes fly fishing. FLY FISHING BITCHES! Scotland FTW! I love the hell out of Scotland: the people are wicked awesome; the land is gorgeous; the accents are pornographic and the lager makes you see triple! (That last one may just be me).

2. Remember when I was sick for two and a half weeks and I was all, "Yeah, but I'm totally better now." I wasn't better. Ha :(

3. Dear Mad Men. Roger, you are a dick unlike any I've seen a long time, but holy shit do you make it work for you. John Slattery, high five!

4. So. Inception. :D (<-- I just hadn't said that for like two weeks and missed it).

4b. Has anybody made an Inception mood theme yet? Where is it? How can one be down? I needs the precious *makes grabby hands*

6. I like watching Drop Dead Diva and Huge. Neither one makes my fannish brain spin, but I find them more enjoyable than 98% of what's on telly at any given time.

7. *claps hands* I got some recs for you! As before these are all Eames/Arthur or Arthur/Eames, however you like to roll your dice. I tend to put the lead POV first myself.

(In Alphabetical Order. Like You Do)

1. documentation of an affair by [livejournal.com profile] onthecount. I love documentation fics like most people love hooker porn or jailbait fic or whatever people really love. I love the idea of being able to just make something transformative and interactive from a text and I swear if I had any fricking art skills at all I'd never write another story and just make everything art-based. Point: I enjoyed this so much I rushed this rec post just so I could say: READ THIS.

2. Don't Call My Eames by [livejournal.com profile] ivynights. The first line says it all. His name is Alejandro. Of course his name is Alejandro. Ex-boyfriend fic FTW! No, I stand corrected: Jealous!Arthur FTW!

3. Each touch belongs to each new sound by [livejournal.com profile] old_blueeyes. So, um, it's cuddling fic. Shut up people, I can be all fluffy too. It's short. And really sweet, considering it features armpits.

4. the man of my dreams by [livejournal.com profile] andrealyn. You know that thing where you read a story and after your heart stops trying to climb out of your throat and you stop barking like a seal all you can think is, "I love this story! Why can't I write anything like this story! Thank god (insert author of choice here) wrote this; I must now go die of jealousy". Yeah, that was totally my reaction to this story, but I'm much calmer now. Oh Eames, so totally my favorite.

5. Three Minute Love Games by [livejournal.com profile] finkpishnets is a story about speed dating. The real kind, not the kind you do when you first get to the pub and make that first circuit or that last circuit when last orders are up. It's Mal/Dom, Ariadne/Fisher and Arthur/Eames. With bonus Yusuf and Saito. I love the hell out of team fic, y'all don't even know.

6-8.ETA: These three five stories from [livejournal.com profile] inception_kink which were all well pimped before I arrived. I present to you: Adorably Paranoid!Eames Fic, Vibrator Fic, Nobody Told Me We Were Dating!Fic, Fake Married!Fic and The Day They Broke Arthur

If you enjoy the stories, please let the authors know. Authors need love and support and water to grow.
Random first: I am loving the hell out of Travis McCoy f/ Bruno Mars doing 'Billionaire'. Like to an insane degree. Here, have a copy.

Random second: Jon Stewart has stubble. I may not recover from this.

Poll Third!

[Poll #1598228]

ETA: I edited the poll for the virgins, please vote again!

Recs Last (but not Least)

These are all Arthur/Eames. I am not even going to front otherwise. Those of you who know me saw this the second Tom Hardy walked on the screen. *winks at [livejournal.com profile] random_flores

(in alphabetical order)

1. Dull Boy by [livejournal.com profile] sparky77. Despite whatever bias I may have in [livejournal.com profile] sparky77's favour I am recommending this not because it's her, but because she writes some of the best banter you will ever be fortunate enough to read. Besides who doesn't love it when the phrase "Fuck off and die" shows up in a story?

2. Equilibrium by [livejournal.com profile] atomicskull. Arthur and Eames have a past, this much is evident, but what it is is up to the author to decide. This is one option. Also, I don't like cats, but a female cat called James Bond is kinda awesome.

3.Little Sport by [livejournal.com profile] th_esaurus. First of all I have to say thank fuck for c-n-p because for the life of me I can't spell "thesaurus" properly. Okay I did there, but that's like one time out of twenty. I digress. This is another story of how Eames and Arthur met, but it's also about wooing and snakes and how sometimes things just end.

4.save lay my rifle down by [livejournal.com profile] queendombythe_c. After I finished this story I didn't know whether to laugh or cry (at how fucking awesome it is). Eames, Yusuf, Ariadne and Arthur steal paintings from the Louvre. It's easier than the Vatican. Even though there are no stolen penises (for real). And there are pigs. I like pigs. R.I.P. Max.

5.Sharp Dressed Man by [livejournal.com profile] annundriel. I equate nice clothes with porn and sometimes the only thing better than getting someone undressed... is getting them dressed. I really hope Mr. Nolan includes this in the outtake reel ;-)

6.too much like the world we're stuck in by [livejournal.com profile] anowlinsunshine. I don't want to spoil the premise, but the opening line will tell you exactly where this story is going and even if you think you know, you really don't. Lyrical and heart-breaking. Eames, you are so my favorite.

7.You're in a Maze by [livejournal.com profile] andrealyn. This is one of the first Arthur/Eames stories I read, if not the first. It's about Ariadne, and about Arthur and Eames, but what I most remember about it is the turquoise flower. I love that goddamn flower :D

Art Rec: [livejournal.com profile] sailtonorway has manips here. The Talib one I have already showcased in my Inception picspam. The cigar one. That is currently listed as story #5 in my WIP braintrust. Ask [livejournal.com profile] maurheti
