Flee! Flee! Flee!

I am currently making little glasses signs with my thumb and forefinger when I should be packing for Bora Bora. Or as far as $14.37 $6.81 (had to drink last night) will get me. Obviously I am not right in the head, so I choose to drabble instead.
This is not a joke, so please stop smiling
What was I thinking when I said it didn't hurt?

Harry Potter
During the war it didn’t really matter. There were just words and actions, rumors, really.
He couldn’t be arsed to pay attention to them.
A hand on the shoulder here, a whispered phrase there. Harry had a world to save; he couldn’t waste his time wondering who was touching who in dark corners when he wasn’t around.
He told himself that for three years.
He almost believed it.
And then the war was over.
People began moving on. Things should have changed, or reverted back. But they didn’t.
Then Neville really went off with Malfoy, and Harry couldn’t pretend anymore.

LOTRips
Their first break-up lasted three hours and was over before PJ had finished setting up for the next shot. Billy was still trying to process what had happened when Dom begged to be taken back.
The second break-up lasted a bit longer: eight days with a case of Bell’s Irish Whiskey. Billy was three-quarters done when Dom came around with those eyes and that treacherous mouth. He apologized again, and Billy belched.
The third time was too long, fullstop. Then Dom appeared with Elijah in the papers.
When he finally rang around to apologize, Billy laughed and wished them well.
*
The O.C.
He smiles; she preens. He tries to impress her; and she pretends not to be amused.
He makes her laugh with jokes they used to share long before she came along.
He doesn’t his best not to watch them together, but at this point it’s not really something he can avoid. Two of the most unlikely people *ever* have seemingly found each other, and he’s all but helpless to object. He can’t quite see “I saw you, first” as a plausible argument.
After all, Ryan didn’t see Seth, first; he just fell for him long before Summer got a clue.
*
Smallville
He shouldn’t have taken it personally: it was Lex after all.
“Better safe than dead, again.” That was his motto.
There were new guards and security devices everywhere. There was even a small explosion when a mole tried to burrow inside a certain perimeter, and those were just the changes that Clark could *see*.
Except those were to protect against *other* people; he had always been let in before.
Then he was turned away at the front door.
And Lex stopped returning his phone calls.
It was like he had never left that island, and then Clark began to understand. Finally.

All lovely. Nice to see you around, too. If you wanna go to the LOTR Triple Tuesday with a bunch of crazed fangirls, let me know before tomorrow morning and I'll buy you a ticket.

Date: 2003-10-09 10:09 am (UTC)You know how I am with new toys, like a raccoon and a shiny object. *winks* As for the state of the union, well, yes, let's not discuss that. *pets random shiny object*
Sadly, I can't make the Tuesday Triple Threat (kicks bad economy and crappy jobs), but I expect to hear all about it when it happens. *hugs*

Date: 2003-10-08 12:53 pm (UTC)Okay, I just finished Dissipation and Despair last night, and so I am incapable of seeing this as anything other than a little AU/companion piece to that. Either way, though, it's lovely.
I love all of them, really. Shocking, I know.

Date: 2003-10-10 07:34 pm (UTC)I am always happy to pimp the good stuff
Date: 2003-10-10 10:28 pm (UTC)You might want to start here, at the page on her web site that gives you an overview of the stories and the suggested reading order.
Or you could dive right in and read the first novel, which you might have heard of, called Lust Over Pendle. It's fairly well-known in HP fandom. Dissipation and Despair is the sequel to it, but there are other stories in the same universe that you might want to read as well. Which is when I would suggest going back and looking at the suggested reading order and deciding what you want to read first.
They're all wonderful, and they're long and funny and interesting, and should give you several days to several weeks worth of good reading, depending on how much time you have on your hands.*g*

As the very wise Rolling Stones sang: "you can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find, you get what you need."

Date: 2003-10-08 12:56 pm (UTC)Oh, God, ow. Ow, ow, ow. I need to go hug Ryan now, excuse me.
Wait, he's fictional. Dammit.
Very nice. Very painful, but very nice. Simple, eloquent language - you don't waste any words, but you still broke my heart into lots of fragmented pulpy pieces. So well done there. ;)

Ryan needs many many hugs, he's always getting the short shrift. Poor thing.
