Mistaken Assumptions
The first assumption was that Lex was going to have blue eyes like Lillian. He didn't. Lionel never forgave him for that. For having the slate gray eyes of Lionel's bastard of a father rather than the angelic cerulean eyes of his mother.
Julian had blue eyes.
*
The second assumption was that Lex was going to be hairless for the rest of his life. But the meteor show only did away with the hair on his head. Lex still had eyebrows and eyelashes.
No one really paid attention. Except for Lillian.
At twelve, Lex became a redhead all over again.
To this day Lex isn't sure his true hair color was more disconcerting for himself, or Edward Wanley, the first boy to give him a blow job.
*
The third assumption was that Lex didn't actually *live* in his skin. That due to some sort of miraculous intervention, Lex managed to keep his skin as soft as a baby seal and as blemish-free as marble.
Lex likes his scars, and Clark has tasted all of Lex's rough edges.
His elbows and his knees, and the diamond-shaped scar above Lex's heart that he never talks about. Clark is drawn to the scar above his lip that makes Lex's lips curl into a sickening grimace when Clark licks at it.
Clark doesn't lick that scar any more, but there are plenty of others for him to choose from.
*
The fourth assumption was that Lex wasn't his father's son.
Everyone was wrong. Everyone was right.
*
The fifth assumption was that Lex wasn't his mother's son as well.
The fifth assumption belonged to Lex alone. He never even bothered to assume that Clark loved him.
That that would be enough.
For once Lex didn't mind being mistaken.
