Otherwise Known as Alexander the Great
Lex's sense of self is as innate as his eye color. He has never questioned who he is, who he will be, what his destiny holds. Lex is Alexander Joseph Luthor the first. He is the son of Lionel and Lillian; he is the only heir to LuthorCorp; he is the employer of 2500 Smallvillians; he is Clark Kent's lover.
Lex is destined for great things.
But sometimes. Sometimes , late at night, when he's entwined with Clark in the darkness, he can't always figure out who's what is where. Regardless of hairlessness and tanned skin. Regardless of bank accounts and secrets that cover them like flannel sheets, sometimes Lex can't tell where he ends and Clark begins.
Sometimes he's not sure who's who. Who's moaning when he's inside Clark, or who's whimpering when Clark's inside him.
Sometimes Clark and Lex are the same person.
Sometimes when Lex looks into Clark's eyes all he sees is his own hope. His own need.
Sometimes Clark is Alexander too.
Once he tried to explain this to Clark, not in terms of purple prose and flowery sentiments, but in the only way he knew how.
He told Clark a story about a history.
A story of a Macedonian king and the man he loved.
The first story spawned a series of explanations, and now, more often than not, Lex tells Clark stories to help him fall asleep.
Stories of Alexander and Hephaestion. Stories of valor and loyalty and love.
Lex tells Clark stories because he can't bring himself to say that he loves him.
Tonight he told Clark the story of Alexander and the Queen Mother of Persia. Lex talked of the Battle of the Syrian Gates and how, after Alexander's army captured the royal family, Alexander went to pay his respects, taking Hephaestion with him.
Upon their arrival in the royal tent, the Queen Mother threw herself at Hephaestion's feet, assuming that due to his larger stature he must be the king. Upon, being told of her mistake she begged Alexander's pardon.
Alexander, the Great King of Macedonia and Persia, told her that it was of no matter whether she prostrated at his feet or the feet of his lover because Hephaestion was Alexander as well.
They were one and the same. Just like Clark and Lex.
In Lex's eyes, Clark's wrongs are his wrongs and Lex's triumphs are Clark's triumphs as well.
At night, in this bed, Clark and Lex are the same. Someday, when Lex rules the world, Clark will too. Someday, Lex will tell the world that Clark is Alexander too.
