Alias/Smallville X-Over
(Julian Sark/Lex Luthor)
Julian is his own everything -- or he believes he’s his own everything. He doesn’t need loyalty or faith or any of the things that seem to bog down the Bristows and those incompetent idiots at the CIA. Julian has his contacts and his employers; he doesn’t need friends because he has associates. He doesn’t need a lover because he has partners and they suit his purposes well enough. If he wants sex, well, he’s never had problems with having those needs met whenever they arise.
He’s never given much thought to family. His father never crossed his radar – except for that business with the money and the Covenant and having him killed, and as for his mother. Well, Irina was as good a mother-figure as he could have chosen anywhere, even if their relationship had a rather strong Oedipal tinge to it.
He stopped drinking after Arvin Sloane drugged his wine, but he doesn’t miss alcohol in any noticeable way. Julian has never been the sort to depend on chemicals of any kind: alcohol, drugs, pills have always been a means to relax as opposed to something he needs. Julian needs very little. He’s just as satisfied with a well-sealed bottle of water is he is with a nice cabernet. He tells himself he’s just as satisfied with water, and if he closes his eyes he believes he can’t tell the difference.
Julian loves to travel. After all this time he should be bored and jaded by the entire experience of flying and driving and sailing; there are few places in the world he’s never been, and yet, behind sunglasses and shuttered eyes, he enjoys what the world has to offer.
His life revolves around his business and his contacts, and his relationships with his employers. He doesn’t have a personal life to call his own, and he thinks he doesn’t want one, but every now and then he finds himself with a day or two to kill and invariably he goes to Metropolis to visit Alexander.
Julian doesn’t have attachments, which is just as well as he doesn’t have Alexander either. Their relationship is -- complicated. Julian’s not sure he does anything but complicated, however, he’s known Alexander for a very long time, since school in fact, and what’s more important is that Alexander knows him and doesn’t seem to care about anything else at all.
Alexander doesn’t call him ‘Sark.’
Nothing seems to faze Alexander. Not the hours Julian keeps or the blood that’s occasionally matted into his hair. He doesn’t care when Julian comes or goes, and he only asks questions that he knows Julian will answer, so Julian sees no reason to lie to him.
Julian feels as safe with Alexander as does with anyone, though he never fools himself into thinking that this is anything more than two men conducting a transaction at any given time. Sometimes, however, when it’s very late at night or very early in the morning, when they’ve been up entirely too long and fucked until there’s nothing left of them but boneless sprawls, Julian will look over at Alexander and wonder if they could have had a different life.

I love the idea of Lex being Sark's one location of possible emotion. Just lovely.
So glad that
